Re: Fox picking up Narnia news: Am I really the only person who enjoyed Prince Caspian? I'm not saying either of the two Narnia movies are perfect, but I love them both and didn't find either one of them to be any kind of travesty.

(Although, yeah, Aslan's headgames in the second movie were kind of bullshit.)

(From [livejournal.com profile] annlarimer: Madame Alexander made two Narnia dolls? Hmm. Lucy really works at that size, and the White Witch... really, really doesn't. It's kind of... chibi!Jadis. Needs moar evil.)

[livejournal.com profile] made_of_fail_pc: Episode Twelve: Buckets Of Explosions!

From [livejournal.com profile] foresthouse: Michael Dirda at the Washington Post has a new book discussion group. "The Reading Room is relatively new, so it needs to build up sufficient numbers to keep it open. I'm trying to spread the word. : )"

First of all: Downloads of the third Half-Blood Prince trailer.

Two unconnected musical thoughts:

As soon as I became aware that Katy Perry (the singer I love to hate. GET OUT OF MY HEAD, "HOT N COLD." "N" IS NOT EVEN A REAL CONJUNCTION) did a cover of The Outfield's "Your Love" ("Use Your Love"), I had to hunt it down, because "Your Love" is one of my top umpteen songs ever. EVER. Shit, I would give any cover of "Your Love" at least one shot. Except that I started listening to it and I immediately got pissed off that the lyrics were changed for no appreciable reason. I mean, yes, there are a couple of lines near the beginning that you'd have to change, unless you, as a female performer Miss I Kissed a Girl, want to sing about how you like your girls a little bit older (honestly? If I were singing this in a karaoke or Rock Band situation, I'd do it, Josie and her vacation and everything). HOWEVER: let us compare (cover lyrics in bold): All my girls are nowhere to be found? WHAT? )

Sigh.

Secondly, there was an awesome song over the credits of the last episode of True Blood, and my understanding is that it's Dr. John's "I Don't Wanna Know" (actual spelling might vary, I'm not sure). Does anyone have it? Because I can't find it anywhere; I can't even figure out what album it might be on.

Harry Potter 6 Pushed Back to Summer '09. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
In making the announcement, Mr. Horn stated, "Our reasons for shifting 'Half-Blood Prince' to summer are twofold: we know the summer season is an ideal window for a family tent pole release, as proven by the success of our last 'Harry Potter' film, which is the second-highest grossing film in the franchise, behind only the first installment. Additionally, like every other studio, we are still feeling the repercussions of the writers' strike, which impacted the readiness of scripts for other films—changing the competitive landscape for 2009 and offering new windows of opportunity that we wanted to take advantage of. We agreed the best strategy was to move 'Half-Blood Prince' to July, where it perfectly fills the gap for a major tent pole release for mid-summer."
"Also, we are going to be totally screwed when The Dark Knight is no longer around to mint us money and we have fuck-all to release next year. Summer '09 it is!"

*sob*

ETA: No, I don't think it has anything to do with Twilight coming out a couple of weeks later, and here's why.

So. Massive catch-up linkspam. Watched the Eliot Spitzer resignation press conference (well, "conference"; he didn't take any questions. Didn't actually seem contrite, either); nearly finished with the prostitution section of Mayhew's London Underworld. Watched American Idol and its 2000 mentions of Horton Hears a Who; did not think Jim Carrey had any dignity left to lose, but was proven wrong. Lexicon saga still ongoing. Also, my poor grandmother has come down with shingles, woe.

Scientology Seeks Restraining Order Against Anonymous. Just a note: the next wave of protests is scheduled for Saturday. Keep your eyes open and be safe, guys, if they're really trying to set you up the firebomb.

From Fandom Lounge and a few of y'all as well: "Melissa Kern, a very well-known organizer in the Lord of the Rings fandom in Atlanta has been diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease, or ALS. Her husband has started a petition to have her cast in the upcoming Hobbit movies as an extra, since the typical ALS survival rate beyond a few years is very low. Information can be found here. There are already 1,000 signatures on the petition, including some people very well-known in Tolkien fandom, such as Ted Nasmith, Daniel Falconer, and Peter S. Beagle. Thanks everyone for looking."

ETA: No new free (i.e., ad-free) LJ accounts. More in the 6A Cornfield post discussing the actual LJ News post, which neglected to mention this fact.

Re: yesterday's Scientology raids: [livejournal.com profile] laughingacademy dropped me a link to [livejournal.com profile] deathboy's London writeup, in which he saw "500 people rick-rolling [i.e., playing Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up." Don't ask me] the UK Scientology head office. It was at this point I saw the corners of the cops' mouths twitch into smiles as they realised it was ok: we were from the internets." Among the pictures included: I love the little sign that reads "DOWN WITH THIS SORT OF THING." Also: Metroblogging Los Angeles: Anonymous vs. Scientology IRL showdown in LA (I dig the "I'm too poor to believe in Scientology" sign. Also, the suparrrr-stealthy Scieno "ice" truck); the Anonymous Worldwide Raids and Shenanigans pool on Flickr; It's not lupus thetans.

So now I'm hearing that the Brook Highland theater is closed--this is now two arthouse theaters we've lost. And they weren't even exclusively arthouse--just the only places, just about, that you could see something like The Fountain at. Meanwhile, my stomach's upset from the antibiotics, the poms' stomachs have been upset from God knows what (probably something they ate in the yard), and it's all kinds of unpleasant. And yes, I'm still eating yogurt. It helps... somewhat. Meanwhile, I've also come down with a snerfy cold that I've been told is a virus, and therefore unaffected by nuclear-grade antibiotics. Woe.

The Sun: Tom Cruise the Christ of Scientology. “Tom has been told he is Scientology’s Christ-like figure. Like Christ, he’s been criticised for his views. But future generations will realise he was right.” Source? Uh... someone. Meanwhile, from [livejournal.com profile] katesti: Katie Holmes has a new nose. I feel really sad now.

Against Depression: "Soon after that, I watched a BBC sports interviewer interrogate a Belfast footballer about his leave of absence for depression. 'Many people would look at you and say, fabulous success, plenty of money, crowd adulation—in essence, what have you got to cry about?' he asked. He actually said that. I try to imagine the same interviewer asking Lance Armstrong what on earth he had to have testicular cancer about."

The trailer for Black Sheep, which is starting to look exactly like the kind of movie Peter Jackson would have made twenty years ago (Weta and all!). And that's a good thing. "SHOOT IT AGAIN!"
