GUESS WHO STILL HAS A LEAK IN THE ROOF? Yeah, this is after our roof was tarped three times over, or so the contractor claims. Anyhoo, I ended up putting a tupperware bowl (inside a garbage bag [inside a box lid] ) under the leak to make sure that all the scattershot dripping would be caught and not end up, you know, in another box of Nancy Drew books, and that seems to have worked pretty well.

Meanwhile, I spent the morning being unusually productive--not writing-wise, sadly, but in terms of random errands. Much of the morning was given over to decanting my BPAL oils into vials to resell, which means that I'm now sitting in an atmospheric miasma of oils I didn't like enough to keep in the first place--man-musk and pine needles and cinnamon wheat and angry pastry.  I did discover, however, that a simple blank mailing label makes an excellent self-adhesive imp label. And I promise this time that the oils can go out much faster, because 1) I know what I'm doing this time and 2) I actually have the padded envelopes on hand.

Current Nancy Drew: Well, I just finished The Clue of the Leaning Chimney last night and I'm about to start on The Secret of the Wooden Lady; I haven't done any reading today so far.

Tomorrow, I'm going out to lunch with my grandmother and... I'm doing something else. I forget what else.

Beautiful weather, by the way, and we got a bit of the fresh March chill back.

You started re-reading Nancy as I started re-reading the Hardy Boys. Clasic PG quotes include the threat of 'you'e going to be as dead as an iced mackerel'. WTF?

Same up here in DC, although that weekend of 70-80 degree heat was wonderful. I'm WAITING, spring.

Whoa, that startled me. I love that icon. XD

Man, sorry about the leak(and the other stuff that's been going on too). :/

The Secret of the Wooden Lady

There's a Wooden Man joke around here somewhere, but I can't quite get it to work.

Roof contractors are a pain. Our roof has been leaking for ages now, and it's still under warranty, but the contractors are always like OOPS NO IT'S RAINING CAN'T DO IT NOW, or OH! TOO COLD! WON'T WORK! TOO BAD SO SAD. So, obviously since it's under warranty and they won't get paid for fixing it, they're stalling as long as they can. Bleeeee.

Wait did I miss another Cleo BPAL sale?
Well, I don't feel so bad considering what's going on with Lunacy atm.

Nah, I haven't put them up for sale yet. I'm going to have so many that I'm probably going to do it in lots (like, today I sell these decants, tomorrow I sell those), and I'll probably announce the times beforehand.

Beth put up a preview on her bpal_excathedra account, btw. Tons of new general catalogue blends going up. : )

Oh man, this reminds me - I finally got the imps from your last sale, thank you so much! Unfortunately I haven't gotten to try them yet (I got them right before leaving for spring break, and my mom's incredibly sensitive to perfumes of any sort) but I can't wait to do so. Also, if there's another sale I will almost certainly snap something up, paltry bank balance be damned.

So - count me as a satisfied, positive customer. ♥

Awww, that's good. It was a huge learning experience for me, so I'm hoping everything will go faster, in terms of shipping and packaging, this next time.

I've got a box of imps next to my computer, only four of which I love so much I plan to get them again. The others range from "eh" to "AAIIGHH". For my money, that infamous description of Dorian is only true if the proper gentleman in question is sucking a really nasty rancid cough drop the whole time. Blargh. It's like Samhain 2005 is the base or something. (Though I'm still glad I got to find this out.)

Good luck with roofing. I got a bunch of stuff fixed around here today when my landlord and his brother-in-law came down to handle a couple of projects (and I inadverdently pissed off my landlord, but that's something else again).

Awww! That's so strange--Dorian and Samhain smell nothing alike for me. But then, I have two separate imps of Snow White that smell vastly different.

Doesn't she change the formulas once in a while, though? Maybe the first one is from an earlier version and second one is from a later version.

As long as Anne Bonny smells the same when I order a big-ass bottle of it, I'm OK.

From: [identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com
I don't know that any two batches are ever alike--my imp of Tamora and my bottle are kind of different. Like, the ingredients are the same, but one has more sandalwood or something.

OK, just this minute I got the comment from an earlier post/comment that you have none of my current wishlist. (Which given the number of possibilities isn't exactly a shock.)

Notes I like: Sandalwood, patchouli, frankincense, jasmine, musk--incensey, resiny stuff. I like citrus but it floats away on me. Hell, if you're tossing any Lupercalia stuff (Smut, Red Lantern, whatever), that would be fine.

You know, I really dislike incense/resin, so I think this ought to work out just fine. : )

Oh pine needles. My third lesson of BPAL: Wanting to smell like your Christmas tree is not neccsarily a good thing.

I don't remember being impressed with The Secret of the Wooden Lady but then I only read it for the promise of Beth and George. The one where they go to New Orleans was my favorite.

I'm vicariously enjoying your rereading of Nancy Drew. I love the old, old ones - Titian hair and roadsters. They rewrote them all in the 70s and the results were uniformly dreadful. I hated those, but I regret that all my old Nancy Drews went off to Goodwill years ago when I packed up books at my mom's and she carefully sent me the box marked "Discard."

Dude, the old ones are totally awesome. I read a rewritten version last night that was total crap. Fortunately, I seem to have more originals than rewrites.

Oh! By the way! I can't find y'all's address to send the you know what, which I'm finally sending off to everyone (and would have sent it sooner but for the fact that I totally, totally suck). Could you email it to me at dailydigest at yahoo.com?

Ah, roof troubles. I live in the great Pacific Northwest, and, here, if your wooden shingles are not rotting, giant, savage racoons are tearing them out and roosting in your attic. Three roof repairs in a row. Not that that happened to my family, or anything. Our new tin roof makes the rain sound really pretty, though.... Anyways, wishing you the best on that one!

Also, the Smart Bitches (http://www.smartbitchestrashybooks.com/index.php/weblog/bill_napoli_is_spelled_a_s_s_h_a_t/) have started a campaign against Senator Bill Napoli (http://www.smartbitchestrashybooks.com/billnapoli/), after he made stupid comments about banning abortion. The campaign against him is going wonderfully, but it might help if you put it in linkspam, eventually, too. *begs*

Would you like a paying job? I realize this sounds disgusting, coming from your LJ, but if you really need paying work, contact Stone Arch books. They want kid's fiction.

http://www.stonearchbooks.com/home.htm

They are actively recruiting.

We'll all be at San Diego Con, trying to hire people, but it seems stupid to me to not give the offer to you now, since you're reading Nancy Drew and all.

I know this is totally off topic.....but with the success of your LOST recaps and this (http://www.sky.com/showbiz/article/0,,50001-1215387,00.html) going into production, I think you could easily do a tv15m magazine-like thing. Instead of weekly maybe do monthly?

And then you could BPAL ads in there. Ooooo the possibilities.

I for one would definitely be a subscriber.

Hey Cleo, next time you feel the urge to pimp, would you post this for me? I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to get the information I need.

I volunteered to beg for swag for LilBro's upcoming Rock Lottery (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=55635719) (now expended to 3 nights!), but I'm not quite sure where to go for the begging. My Rolodex is more film-oriented than record label-oriented. Is there a place like IMDb Pro but for music? And, if I'm going to contact the labels "cold turkey", what's the best way to approach them? Rock Lottery (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=55635719) proceeds go to charity while the swag will be used for door prizes. Last year, the first annual Rock Lottery (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=55635719), featured door prizes of...t-shirts and hats from LilBro's beer vendors. We'd like to get some good stuff this year.

(See how I make it a little easier out here for a pimp? ;) )
