Arrrrgh, tornadoes. Well, that at least explains why it was EIGHTY DEGREES the other day. In fact, things are just going from bad to worse--the entire roof has to be replaced now (which, fortunately, we can have done for $500 total, what with insurance), and the pool liner very likely will have to be replaced as well. Oh, and the air conditioning switch, whatever precisely that is, will also cost $500. We discovered this when the downstairs AC went dead over the weekend, prompting my mother to invoke the service contract. On a Sunday, no less. So they came out that day, and fixed it free of charge--it's just that replacement parts aren't included in that. There's probably some other calamity I've (blessedly) forgotten, as well. Sigh.

And this won't mean anything to anyone but the BPALers, but I have now started wearing High John the Conqueror for reasons that will be apparent if you're familiar with it at all.

And for those of you worried about the linkspam, it--and [livejournal.com profile] dailydigestnews--is coming back. I've just got such a pileup at this point that I'm going to have to sit down and actually sort it out, and I have some pressing things I have to take care of before I can do that.

Current Nancy Drew: The Clue/Mystery/Secret of the Tolling Bell. It's on my bed and I can't see the title from here. Pick one.

I rather get the feeling that the author(s) may have written one of each.

Mostly a very grape smell, but it doesn't have the raspy-grassy undertones that most of the Voodoo blends have, which is why I like it. Wolf's Heart is my other Voodoo mainstay, sort of a warm raspy dragon's blood/spice (cinnamon?) smell. And Aunt Caroline's Joy Mojo, that's sort of a raspy bubblegum-candy smell.

Grape, mostly. It's very nice.

Arrrrgh, tornadoes.

Around here we say "Arrrrrgh, roaches" in approximately that tone of voice. Maybe you should try tornado motels? Or beef tornadoes?

I'm completely jealous of all the Nancy Drew books, by the way. I devoured those things as a kid. I specifically remember one of the later ones where Bess gets selected as a finalist in a modeling contest and Nancy and George go along on the cruise for the finalists, only everyone keeps telling Nancy that SHE'S the one who should be a model cuz she's so perfect and whatnot. There's a chocolate themed dinner where there's some sort of chocolate chicken entree. I don't remember the mystery involved even a little bit though. Or the name of the book.

Tornadoes? Good grief!

We had thunder and fog here (Toronto) today. No tornadoes.

Incidentally I saw Beowulf & Grendel (http://imdb.com/title/tt0402057/) last night and thought of you. Crazy wigs! Accents! Trolls! Beer! Sarah Polley! Gerard Butler! You totally have to see it. And then because I am selfish, you totally have to do an [livejournal.com profile] m15m recap (pretty please?).

Um, so, looking it up, there's a distinct possibility I've mushed two random Nancy Drews together in my head. Possibly this one (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0606044795/102-1483987-6019369?v=glance&n=283155)
and this one (http://www.powells.com/biblio?isbn=068986146x)

Neither are old school Nancy Drew. I'm sure I got them both at the Hoover Library during my many, many trips there as a kid. I also remember having to pay $8.00 in late fees for a Nancy Drew library book I found under my bed quite a bit late.

Well, bless your heart. I think you're done. When bad things start happening, they always seem to come in threes. You've got your three in now:
1) shower door
2) air conditioner
3) roof and pool (we'll count that as one since it was the storm)

This is one reason I'm still renting after selling my house 7 years ago-- 11 years of taking care of everything, being a single mom/single wage earner and all the responsibility (financial and just sitting around waiting for the people to come do the work) finally just wore me down. Whenever I think I'm ready to jump back into home ownership, something like this reminds me of why I like renting so much. It has its downside-- but man, not having the responsibility of a house makes me feel like I live at a resort.

Sending good wishes your way.

It didn't do much for me in court last summer but I didn't really have much of a defense. (Just traffic crap, nothing major. "No, your honor, I did NOT decapitate that Shriner. He fell against my chainsaw.") I think you'll have more success. I send you many, many good vibes.

What program do you use to construct your entries? Lately, the text hasn't been wrapping and its color has been blending into the background color of my friends page, only showing the links. It's only happening to your entries, that's why I'm curious about the program.

Maybe it's just an incompatibility with your program and Opal. By no means am I complaining or demanding a fix. Just curious so I can fiddle with my CSS if it's a problem on my end. ^_^

blech-- that sounds like no fun at all! tornados and hurricanes are the worst, we lost power so many times this summer in Atlanta that we stopped keeping perishibles in the fridge.

not that that has anything to do with air conditioning, but just thought I'd sympathize.

Good luck with the... *predicts* Mystery

High John and I didn't get along so well. I got a frimp of it with my last order, and I ended up smelling like a Jolly Rancher. (And I have you to thank for my BPAL obsession, btw. ;) )

Oooh...tornadoes. See, living in central Texas, now known as That Scorched Land Formerly Known as Texas, we would KILL for a storm that was strong enough to produce tornadoes since that would also mean some damn rain. Of course, they never reach that strength until at least Houston. Bastard weather patterns.

We got our first decent storm of the season here in Austin the other night and I got so excited about it I wrote an entire LJ entry (http://emerybored.livejournal.com/102304.html) about it. With screen caps of the radar as I tracked the thing across the county (see also my icon). I admit, I got a little crazy, but there was thunder! A sound not heard here in months. As a weather geek, I was so thrilled. As a person with a car out in the open and the possibility of hail, not so much.

But tornadoes where you live... totally different matter. You guys don't need them, and, obviously, neither does your house. Oh, and if it makes you feel better about the outside temps - we hit 93 degrees on the 10th, breaking the record set back in 1954. Summer. In what's still technically winter. Texas rules.

High John's worked for me for that, yeah. I did a full out ritual for him and made up these little charm bags. I hesitated on giving him his for a couple weeks. When I did, within 48 hours, he had a job interview for his current job, which he LOVES. So, hey.

OK... now, you have really had more than your share the past few days because now you're up to sets of three-- but if we have to count all of them (to get you to a divisible by three number of OHNOES!, I'm game.
Set 1:
1) Shower door
2) Mom cuts her hand trying to help put it back up
3) A/C goes out

Set2:
1) Roof leaks - needs fixing
2) A/C needs new whatchamacallit
3) Pool needs fixing

Maybe you're done!!!

*more good wishes*

You guys were hit, too? We need a new roof, siding, gutters and leaf guard. And that was just from hail! Thankfully, most of the tornadoes stayed within 20 miles of us on all 4 sides...but it's still unbelievable. Crazy ass weather.

It's actually the fact that Cleo's entries have a leading p (paragraph) tag, which none of the other users on your list have. Your stylesheet defines:

.entrytext p { color: #E2E0DD;

Which is the same color as your background. You can either over-ride the stylesheet directly via the control panel to ignore paragraph tags in entries, or change the color with an "!important" to the same color as the rest of the text.

Hope that helps.
