Mar. 13th, 2006 07:28 pmArrrrgh, tornadoes. Well, that at least explains why it was EIGHTY DEGREES the other day. In fact, things are just going from bad to worse--the entire roof has to be replaced now (which, fortunately, we can have done for $500 total, what with insurance), and the pool liner very likely will have to be replaced as well. Oh, and the air conditioning switch, whatever precisely that is, will also cost $500. We discovered this when the downstairs AC went dead over the weekend, prompting my mother to invoke the service contract. On a Sunday, no less. So they came out that day, and fixed it free of charge--it's just that replacement parts aren't included in that. There's probably some other calamity I've (blessedly) forgotten, as well. Sigh.
And this won't mean anything to anyone but the BPALers, but I have now started wearing High John the Conqueror for reasons that will be apparent if you're familiar with it at all.
And for those of you worried about the linkspam, it--and
dailydigestnews--is coming back. I've just got such a pileup at this point that I'm going to have to sit down and actually sort it out, and I have some pressing things I have to take care of before I can do that.
Current Nancy Drew: The Clue/Mystery/Secret of the Tolling Bell. It's on my bed and I can't see the title from here. Pick one.

Neither are old school Nancy Drew. I'm sure I got them both at the Hoover Library during my many, many trips there as a kid. I also remember having to pay $8.00 in late fees for a Nancy Drew library book I found under my bed quite a bit late.

This is one reason I'm still renting after selling my house 7 years ago-- 11 years of taking care of everything, being a single mom/single wage earner and all the responsibility (financial and just sitting around waiting for the people to come do the work) finally just wore me down. Whenever I think I'm ready to jump back into home ownership, something like this reminds me of why I like renting so much. It has its downside-- but man, not having the responsibility of a house makes me feel like I live at a resort.
Sending good wishes your way.

"No, your honor, I did NOT decapitate that Shriner. He fell against my chainsaw.") I think you'll have more success. I send you many, many good vibes.

Date: 2006-03-14 02:47 am (UTC)What program do you use to construct your entries? Lately, the text hasn't been wrapping and its color has been blending into the background color of my friends page, only showing the links. It's only happening to your entries, that's why I'm curious about the program.
Maybe it's just an incompatibility with your program and Opal. By no means am I complaining or demanding a fix. Just curious so I can fiddle with my CSS if it's a problem on my end. ^_^

Date: 2006-03-14 03:35 am (UTC)We got our first decent storm of the season here in Austin the other night and I got so excited about it I wrote an entire LJ entry (http://emerybored.livejournal.com/102304.html) about it. With screen caps of the radar as I tracked the thing across the county (see also my icon). I admit, I got a little crazy, but there was thunder! A sound not heard here in months. As a weather geek, I was so thrilled. As a person with a car out in the open and the possibility of hail, not so much.
But tornadoes where you live... totally different matter. You guys don't need them, and, obviously, neither does your house. Oh, and if it makes you feel better about the outside temps - we hit 93 degrees on the 10th, breaking the record set back in 1954. Summer. In what's still technically winter. Texas rules.

Which is the same color as your background. You can either over-ride the stylesheet directly via the control panel to ignore paragraph tags in entries, or change the color with an "!important" to the same color as the rest of the text.
Hope that helps.
