Dude, I totally forgot to show off my new RSS reader. It's like a friendslist for blogs!

I'm still excited that I went from "Huh?" to l33t in one afternoon. I'm sure eighteen of y'all are going to pop up, each with a different reader you like much better, but as far as I'm concerned, Google Reader is dead easy, and that's what's at the top of my list. ("Search for new content" at the top? Plug in what you want and it finds the feed for you. So easy.)

Cleo Cleo Cleo! Did you know that LJ now autosaves your unfinished entries?! No more "yo, I used to have an entry, but that's gone to shit."

well, I'm excited.

I noticed that the other day. I wish they'd had that long ago. I'm still not sure I trust it and I copy long posts before hitting that post button. *is paranoid*

I just use my friends page as my rss reader. It saves time, because I only have to go to one website to read it all. :)

I'm kind of weird in that I like keeping LJ people ("real people") on one page and news/professional bloggers on a different one. A lot of my Google Reader stuff is movie news feeds.

That's not weird at all - it makes perfect sense. I'm just lazy. :)

I..don't really understand what this is.

But it looks pretty, so I kind of want it.

A lot of blogs and websites nowadays--at least the kind that update on a daily or weekly basis--have RSS feeds now. What you do is give your reader (in this case, Google Reader) the URLs of those feeds (or in this case, Google will find them for you), and you can see stuff from lots of different websites on one page. It's like having a friends list on LJ, only instead of y'all, it's got comingsoon.net and Yahoo Weather and Entertainment Weekly on it.

I just set up my own Google Reader this morning -- it's nifty :o) I can't stop checking it.

I'm afraid of what it's going to look like once the work week starts--it's been kind of slow because it's the weekend. I'm hoping this'll help me keep up with all these blogs I keep meaning to read but don't.

Fear totally not. Google's as good a way to do your feed-reading as any. The one I use? Web-based as well, and hasn't been updated (code-wise) in ages. There are enough readers out there, and feed-reading itself is such a non-complex thing to ask a computer to do, that it's hard to justify evangelizing any particular software choice.

Wow. How's THAT for "the voice of moderation," eh? *wry grin*

You'll be truly 1337 once you stop using Internet Explorer. ;)

Would you believe I tried Firefox and didn't like it?

From: [identity profile] georgie21.livejournal.com
Yeah, I did that too. After awhile I got tired of having a lot of Internet Explorer browsers open, though, and I tried Firefox again. I started to like it a lot more when I got used to it.

I still use IE though. Just because I'm more used to it ;)

I felt the same until I discovered tabbed browsing and (more importantly) mouse gestures. It's like nearly Minority Report!

I'm having way too much fun with this Google reader, though the bulk of it are soccer-related news and such.

There are still aspects of Google Reader that I think could be a lot more intuitive but mostly I'm a huge fan too. Labels are growing on me.

By the way, that was short for "Art thou online?" not a question about online art.

oh, heh -- disregard my query below. I'm online but only for a moment plus I'm in a lousy mood.

Why do you use Google instead of Yahoo?

I'm just curious =)

I use both LJ and My Yahoo for my stuff... LJ's a little bit slower than My Yahoo, it seems.

From: [identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com
Actually, I use Yahoo for most everything else--I don't even use my Gmail. But Yahoo's idea of a news aggregator seemed to be lumping the last five links from everything on one page on My Yahoo (or two, or three, or however many you create), whereas I wanted something I could scroll through, like in the picture.

Oh... hm... that's a good point...

I'll have to check it out then =)

On the other hand, sometimes it's just easier for me to check LJ and go through your entries when I want to look for entertainment news. Heh.

I have one set up, yeah.

Then go to http://www.google.com/reader, it shouldn't be any trouble to start adding feeds if you have an email account with them.

Ooh, I was hoping somebody would ask you how you did it, cause I was curious too. Thanks for the link!

Yeah, it's free, and fairly self-explanatory. The interface is kind of busy, so you might have to poke around a bit and figure it out, but if *I* can figure out it without hitting the help section, it's got to be doable.

Aw, man. Didn't Google do a great job AGAIN?! Real simple to use. Man, I'm so glad you got into feeds. I'm a NewsAlloy (http://www.newsalloy.com/) user myself. When you get hardcore into feeds you should check it out. It's the reader of all readers :)

I SO MEANT TO TELL YOU ABOUT THIS. I think I linked to it and then never mentioned it again, because most of my flist cares not about RSS. But oooh, it's so shiny.
