AUGH. The eyelid twitch has come back. Which makes it particularly difficult to apply eyeshadow--I don't usually wear makeup, but since I'm working at home anyway, I started getting this urge to play practice. With colors, mostly--I loathe foundation, but I have heard that some of Lush's*^ cleansing products are so good that you won't even need it. Of course, I can't afford them right now, so I'm just going to pretend I have gorgeously creamy-clear skin and move on.

(Also, it doesn't hurt that my mother unloaded some lipsticks and eyeshadows that she tried but didn't like on me. Whee, Revlon cream eyeshadow palette in "Shell"!)

* God, I wish I had a giant bathtub and, like, all of their bath bombs right now. The one I've got is pitifully shallow, and is more like a bathpan than a bathtub, or maybe a bathsaucer.

^ I just saw a moisturizer on there, 1.5 oz, that costs seventy-two dollars ($72), Jesus.

And while we're here: good Lord, is it pissing down rain today. My dogs are deeply depressed about this because... actually, I don't know why, because they're indoor dogs, but they are. If Sister Girl hadn't needed help with an insane amount of paperage today ("Write about the history and production of chocolate," plus I think two other things and a project), I'm not sure I would have gotten out of bed at all. It's just that kind of day--curl up and hide.

The puppy bowl was splendid. We had some friends over and I loaded my ironing board down with snacks. Delicious way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Re: dogs, my (totally spoiled) inside dog is also depressed today. He keeps looking out the window and sighing...like his life is so damn rough.

For some stupid reason, my make up and my work live on the same desk (it's really long), and the mirror is infront of the chair.

Means I look good when I've finished my work...

My makeup lives in a case/box in the linen cabinet, because there's no frickin' *room* for it in the bathroom, which Sister Girl has colonized. I don't even have a mirror over my dresser, which is also stuffed/covered. It's all v. sad.

The truly weird thing about the iPod clothes is that they look like they would impede use of the iPod. I could understand a case that kind of looked like clothes but was really just a fancy one of those things you get at Staples. You would have to undress your iPod to use it.

Sorr yto butt in here but from the Stones' story:

But unlike U2's performance four years ago at the Super Bowl, their set was not an example of a band at its peak rising to the majesty of the event.

"Majesty of the event"? Super Bowl halftime is majestic? I think I'd giggle at that even if I didn't always enjoy the Grey Cup a lot more...

Advice from a longtime Lush customer: the closest non-bank-breaking analogue to Lush's "Celestial" or "Imperialis" is Alba Botanica's Jasmine & Vitamin E Cream. Likewise, Alba Botanica's Pineapple Enzyme cleanser is a fabulous item for the non-independently wealthy.

And in lieu of foundation, do look into BeneFit's Dr. Feelgood. Leaves you matte, evened out, *and* velvety-moisturized but not opaque or cakey or coloured.

Lush is a nice treat, but honestly, there are cheaper things that do the job just as well (and in some cases better). However, you will get my Buffy the Backside Slayer and King of Skin bars away from me when you pry them out of my cold dead hands. Just noting.

From: [identity profile] metonymy.livejournal.com
Ooooh, really? Where can I pick that Alba Botanica stuff up? Because my pot of Celestial is running out, and I love it to bits, but I can't afford a replacement right now. (Everything Lush is less expensive in England, even with the conversion rate. How does that make sense?)

Dr. Feelgood is lovely, too. I couldn't stop touching my skin after I tried it.

They need to oust the cheesetastic narrator dude on the official clip shows and just do a continuous loop of that song!

Google Video has Super Bowl Commercials

Date: 2006-02-06 10:18 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] corkdorkdan.livejournal.com
For the benefit of the general public reading Cleolinda's journal, Google Blog posted something about Super Bowl commercials today:

http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2006/02/this-bowls-for-you.html

Basically, they posted them all on Google Video:
Which is why I'm excited that this year everyone can see the Super Bowl commercials on Google Video (http://video.google.com/superbowl.html). Finally, a way to enjoy the ads without having to fast-forward TiVo through the game.

Dude, I totally undestand your foundation of woe story. I use this make up Bare Minerals. SO GOOD! The powder is the foundation and it stays on and it's not all BLECH and oily and just...goodness. Plus it takes like half a minute to apply. I've used it and it doesn't break me out, I've got skin like a thirteen year old boy who just had his voice crack while singing in the sunday choir...so definitely check it out.

Oh, gosh, the weather was horrible today! So much rain! It was just unbelievable. I was so lucky as to be able to look out a window at work all day, and it NEVER stopped raining. So dreary. I was a bit miffed that it didn't snow like they said it was going to. OK, so 'miffed' is putting it lightly - I pretty much had a fit this morning when I woke up and saw no snow.

I have to agree that ambigrams are the coolest thing ever. A boy in my theatre company drew a logo for us last year--it was an ambigram that read "Life" one way and "Death" the other. It's so, so sexy and I wish I could scan it because it is *amazing*.

Oh my gosh, I love you so much for posting that Puppy Bowl link! I don't have cable anymore, and heard a short blip about it on the way home from dinner tonight. Not enough to tell me what in the world it was about, so when I saw your link, I had to click. And subsequently just sat here and laughed and laughed at the puppies and the kitty halftime show. Hee!

Also? I've never heard of ambigrams before, but now I want one so, so much. I'm a big word freak, so that sort of thing is right up my alley.

Hope the twitch dissipates, as well as your dogs' depression. All-day rain can really bring out the Gloom, can't it.

About the skin thing, seriously, drink jasmin tea. I've got crappy skin, thanks to spending far to much time in the autralian sun as a teenager - but as long as I manage at LEAST 5 cups of jasmin (well, green actually ... but I don't like it without the jasmin in it) tea a day I look pretty good.

Its got something to do with rehydration and anti-oxidants blah blah blah.

I was just looking for some new face-care stuff - cleanser and moisturizer and things. What did you hear recommended?

Also - I played around with my "usual" eyeshadow routine lately when I went to a law school event - and I discovered a neat way to do it that I'm sure is old but I hadn't done before (http://www.cosmeticscop.com/learn/article.asp?PAGETYPE=ART&REFER=MAKEUP&ID=43) - i.e. using the darker shade under the brow instead of on the lid (look under two-toned application). I like the effect! (I realize most people probably already knew about this - I don't generally pay enough attention to these things.)

From: [identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com
Read back through the comments--someone recommended cheaper, similar products at Alta Botanica--but the Lush products I really want, and have heard recommended for my combination skin type, are the Angels with Bare Faces scrub, the Imperialis moisturizer, and the Fresh Farmacy soap.

(And that color technique is interesting--it's literally the opposite of everything I've ever heard, which is dark on the lid and light on the brow, but it sounds interesting.)

Aw, I hope your eye stops twitching. As for the Superbowl, I think my favorite commercial was the Magic Fridge one, haha. I'm sad I missed the puppy bowl though!

I looked at the best video thing and laughed because I had seen Numa Numa before (though one of my friends made up an entire dance to the song last summer with his friends, I really wish I had a video to show you...maybe in the near future), but the "Will You Go To Prom With Me?" one was funny! And speaking of funny, this cracked me up: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4623807623312885931&q=funny+cats (it's cats acting funny, very amusing)

Oh, finished your book by the way, I love it, and am definitely going to watch Jurassic Park again and actually watch Gladiator so I will get your oh so clever jokes. I about died while reading the LotR ones, I am SO glad you read the books, because I laughed so much at the Tolkien fan jokes! Haha, especially about the gifts, that was great. But I was reading parts out loud to my brother and he was laughing so hard. So you brightened at least two people's days yesterday, thanks. :-)
