An entry entirely about GoPets

Just because I figured y'all might be interested to see what the hell this thing looks like. For those of you not familiar with the site, the purple, Occupation: Girl-colored cat is mine, Cookie. The other cats and dogs are people's on my friends list who just came to visit. Like, spontaneously. Of their own free will.

When the GoPets talk to each other, and they agree, they end up swaying and seemingly snapping their "fingers." I have no idea.


 

After a quick game of rock-paper-scissors, they chased each other all over the screen.

 


When they disagree, the conversation grinds to a halt. This is apparently GoPetsian for STFU.




I have no idea what this conversation is about.




Cookie magically spins off her clothes and takes a bath.




Drinking milk (her hydration was low, and a speech bubble/"iku" popped up informing me that she was dying of thirst in a desert).




Chillin'.
 


Stretching.




I have no idea where this dude got his skateboard.




Bathing the old-fashioned way.




Video games.




Hunting the mighty tennis ball.



I have no idea where Samurai Cat came from.

By the way, you guys who play--roughly how many shells do you have, and how did you get them? I'm trying to figure out if having 20 gold shells and however many green shells I can earn playing with pets is normal, or if there are activities I'm just not seeing.

This guy won a film editing contest, where the creator has to recut a movie into a trailer that puts the film into a completely different genre. He does some brilliant things meshing "The Shining" and the song "Solsbury Hill" together. :-)

The hearts in the speech bubbles are when the pets are confessing their love/crushes to each other. If they dance it's a sign that the other pet feels the same. If they stick out their tongue it's a pretty damn firm rejection and the other pet will go off and pout in the corner. Your desktop is like the Lounge of LURVE.

Shells pretty much depend on the user. One way to work your way up to the gold shells is to feed your pet green shell foods. Cheap ones give you more green, expensive ones give you green and pink. Build up your pink and buy strawberry fortune cookies, which give you a chance of winning gold shells. Also, in the forums some people will give you gold in exchange for pink and green.

Skateboards were a subscriber item for last month. People sell them occasionally for around 200 gold shells. Which is... yeah, pretty intimidating for new users.

Oooh, there's another client coming out soon, IMstar (http://www.teamimstar.com/links/linktool.php?a=cl&l=0&id=6281&ref=16559) that is the Sims-like people. You go on scavenger hunts to earn points and items. Thought I'd throw that out there. I had GoPets for a while, but I got board with in when there weren't updates for a long while. It's cute, and I ended up giving my account to my sister, but I'm having fun with IMstar.

I am going to give GoPets a try, ignoring the fact that I have about 8 Neopets on two Neopets accounts who are dead by now and my real-life dog gets about as much play-time as my blender. Less, even. Blenders make fun noises, and usually there's something tasty to snack on when you're done using it. Dog: has no such qualities.

If I recall correctly, I have like 20-40 gold shells. I haven't been on GoPets in ages. I got a bunch of gold shells(around 40 or 50) for signing up as a beta tester - I think you have to pay for other gold shells. I could be wrong.

BTW, that black cat with the pirate hat and red sunglasses (6th picture down) looks exactly like my Snickers :D

Aww, sorry about that! If you want to give it to a specific pet, drag the item out of your inventory and sort of drop it on the pet's head. It's targeted for that pet after that.
