Good Lord, where has the day gone? Also, Mom taped over Lost. Looks like I'm going to be making up passive-aggressive homoerotic dialogue, you guys.

Oy:

A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE

This one was so strange, we had to run it near the top. Faithful reader Hector Lima pointed out this tidbit over at Contact Music, so strange we can only quote it: "Eccentric film-maker David Cronenberg shocked his cast and crew on the set of new movie 'A History Of Violence,' by publicly performing sex scenes with his wife. The director hoped his explicit displays of affection with his wife would help stars Viggo Mortensen and Maria Bello, who play man and wife in the film, feel more comfortable during their sex scenes together. But, instead, the Cronenbergs just left everyone on the set stunned ... Mortensen says, 'There's a couple of fairly racy sex scenes in the movie ... between Maria Bello and myself. David, trying to be helpful, as usual, thought it might be a good idea to call up his wife and have her come down to the set. The crew and Maria and I just sat and watched while he and his wife got into something comfortable -- nothing -- and they started to say, 'We want you to (do this).' Maria and I were both going, 'OK, we get it.' This is a testament to their relationship, they kept going and they kept going and then we broke for lunch and some time in the evening Maria and I got to have a crack at it. Instead of putting us at ease, we actually were kind of freaked out... Maybe some things ought to stay private.'"

SUPERMAN RETURNS

The official site has launched, without much going on as of yet, but at least the latest video blog shows one Jimmy Olsen handing the figurative torch (or bowtie, in this case) to another.

In possibly related news, proving once again that truth will remain in the lead over fiction in the "strangeness" race with a lead so unsumountable as to be embarrassing, former proposed Superman actor Nicolas Cage and his wife Alice Kim welcomes a baby boy into the world, who they promptly named Kal-El Coppola Cage. No, really. Babies born around the same time are already signing up for a lottery to be the first to kick the Cage baby's butt.
Ralph Fiennes on Voldemort and his costar: "Dan's very good," he said, "working with him was wonderful. Poor guy, he had to be so patient. I had to do all this waffling and talking about how I'm the Master of the Universe and how I'm evil and I'm going to kill him and he has to stand there all tied up, writhing around and groaning with pain while I'm monologuing towards him. The Evil-Genius monologue bit - no film is complete without it! I just love playing evil characters!"

(Monologuing. Is that anything like voguing?)

Oh, and [livejournal.com profile] elyim reports that Amazon.co.uk has dropped the price on the book to £4.79 from £6.39--you may want to cancel and repreorder. No, I have no idea what's going on with the American distribution. Still looking into it.

Also: Have you thought of something to write for NaNoWriMo?

Will you be doing NaNoWriMo this year? I'm still working on character sketchs and plot, but I'm thinking it would be fun to play with contemporary Gothic; I've never done that before, and my tiny, creepy-at-night, private, all-girls, East Coast liberal arts college has provided a lot of inspiration as far as setting goes.

And I have absolutely nothing against made-up passive-aggressive homoerotic dialogue. In fact, I am completely for it. And Evil Genius monologuing. And voguing.

I think it would be cheating if I worked on Black Ribbon, but I'm thinking about doing that anyway. Maybe in an unofficial capacity. I like the spirit of the thing.

Re: The first item. Um. Wow. I just saw that last night, and yeah, the sex scenes were.... well, I'm not the shy type and I was embarrassed. Possibly because it was a first date *cringe*. I definitely had to look away at a couple of points. Let's just say that what happened with the cheerleader outfit had me giggling nervously.

But HELLO, BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN PREVIEW. I nearly wet myself with excitement.

and for some reason the audience I was viewing with couldn't take the trailer for Brokeback Mountain. Jackholes.

A. Taping over LOST should be a felony.

B. I love Ralph Fiennes in every way imaginable. He's hot and smart and talented and amusing and just absolutely wonderful.

C. Nick Cage used to be one of my favorite off beat actors. Now he's just bizarre. I wish he'd do more off beat roles so I could love him again, because I really, really did LOVE him. In leaving Las Vegas he was awesome. Raising Arizona? Funniest/weirdest flick that I loved during my misspent youth. And I'll even give him props for playing Charlie Kaufman. But all these cheesy action flicks MUST. STOP. NOW. And we won't even get into the almost kidnapping of his child bride and nearly instantaneous pregnancy/marriage. Dude's just weird. But it worked for him when used it in off beat films. Now? Not so much.

D. I think monologuing is something like.... villing? Which is awesome.

From: [identity profile] wmetoile.livejournal.com
I first heard "monologuing" defined in The Incredibles, when Jason Lee, as Syndrome, yells, "You've got me monologuing!" at tied-up Mr. Incredible. It's when the supervillain dumps all their sad backstory and warped motivation on the (usually immobilized) hero, rather than just killing him or her immediately. And I bet Ralph is damned good at it, eh, Meester Bond?

NaNoWriMo.... I'm not doing it. I'm already a good 21 pages into a story, and I'd hate to have to put it aside to work on a new one specifically for NaNoWriMo. Plus there's the whole quantity over quality thing. I'd rather write something slower and shorter, and have it be great, than to try and rush and write something crappy to fill in a certain amount of space.

Also, if you feel like pimping something, [livejournal.com profile] sliceofmusic is a new music sharing community that works on a rather nifty credits system. Going along with the slice theme, you get 1 lime slice per song you upload, and 1 lemon slice per full album you upload. You can use those credits to request songs/albums from people. But you can download anything uploaded on it's own/or for someone else, free of credit.

[livejournal.com profile] alexthedevil made me ask you to pimp that. I had to because I'm scared of her. She has red hair and she's the devil ;_;

I've never gotten around to doing it before, myself. I would definitely suggest that you spend October mulling over what you'd like to write about, though. Don't go in cold. And pace yourself--try to set a goal for each day. I think 2000 words a day is what it takes to get to 50,000, roughly...?
