Apparently Dennis is going to hit Birmingham in about three hours (2 pm CST), and my mother is freaking. OUT. It's a very quiet, controlled freaking of the out, but there's a lot of last-minute clothes-washing and cookie-baking and battery-buying going on chez Cleo, let me tell you what. I mean, I don't want to lose power (if nothing else, losing the air conditioning will SUCK) and I sure as hell don't want to lose water, but as long as nothing is flung through the windows/walls/roof of the house, I'm thinking we'll be fine. We're halfway up a hilly cul-de-sac; flooding won't affect our actual house much.

My internet had already started fritzing in and out when we got some early rain yesterday (happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] valkyrie79!), so I suspect I won't have a connection much longer. This may be the last you've heard from me for a while, but I suspect the only danger we'll be in will be killing each other out of boredom (knock on wood).

Shit, I forgot to do that Empire recap, didn't I?

And oh yea. I just posted about how everyone bakes and cleans before a hurricane. Your mom is just trying to calm down. I do the same.

poor baby. it's times like these when i'm (sort of) glad we live in Ohio. still, living in Florida would be (kinda) worth it.

Hope all will be well. Having those trees out of the way should give some peace of mind. (No OMG!WTF!TREE IN!MY!BED moments.) I dropped you an email last night, BTW; not sure if you got it if your connection was fritzy.

I know I probably shouldn't worry my head off about whether you'll be hit... but I'm known for being rather paranoid.

Be safe, Cleo. I hope everyone else who is suffering/experiencing Dennis is all right.

On a horrible note, I can't help but think of Holy Grail.

Having gone through three crapicanes last year, I know that if a person keeps their head and uses common sense, they'll get through a hurriciane physically safely

Good to know I'm not the only one cooking and cleaning to welcome the storm in. I mean, I feel pretty calm, but the thought of cleaning my kitchen and baking some cookies does make me feel better :-)

Here in Montgomery we shoudln't really get more than some 50 or so mph winds, but I guess you never can tell how bad it will be until it hits.

As long as she's cooking and cleaning, her mind is off the wind.

I've been in her place.

my best wishes for you and yours, Cleo. also my thoughts to all those in the path...
I have cousins in Mobile, AL and my (soon-to-be) mother-in-law and some of her family live in Sarasota, FL, so I'm doing a fair bit of worrying and cleaning, trying to make sure that everyone's ok. Best of luck to all!!

Hope you are well (psst...I'm a lurker here, but I LOVE your recaps of Empire. I mean, really, any show with Jonathan Cake calling Santiago Whatever Octavius his "property" and "whore" is a good show to me. Plus, I hear that there's going to be an orgy this week. I'm so happy!).

So I'm not the only one who felt utterly compelled to do three loads of laundry and bake peanut butter cookies yesterday? That actually makes me feel better!

We're in Memphis, so it looks like we will get "some weather" tomorrow. We should be fine -- I've got 5 gals. water and PopTarts. :)

How far from Birmingham is Mobile? I was watching my local news, and it appeared they had local correspondents staked out. Please, take care.

Pretty far, considering--that's the southern coast, while we're sort of the northern-central area.

Also, MSNBC is saying that Dennis has just been downgraded from Cat. 4 to Cat. 3.
