Good news: I just got my first set of Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab samples last night. (Tamora, Titania, Neo-Tokyo, Persephone, Jezebel, Siren [omg! delish], and my freebie was Veil. More on those when I have more time.)*

Bad news: There won't be a Lost recap this week, either.

* ETA: Seriously, if there's a place to say so, tell 'em Cleolinda or cleolinda.livejournal.com sent you, if that's how you found out about BPAL.

Hee!

Also, I don't know that it's a SM reference--it's from the Wanderlust section, where all the scents used to be "Old Shanghai" or "Old Kyoto," and they finally dropped the "Old" part of all the names. I think Neo-Tokyo is supposed to have an urban, metallic edge to the bamboo and cherry blossom and whatnot, so "Old Tokyo" wasn't really appropriate.

However, they do have whole lines of Cthulhu/Arkham scents, Shakespearean scents, tarot scents, blends named for literary characters like Valmont and Merteuil, voodoo love potions... I wouldn't put a SM reference past Elizabeth.

Choose perfume. Choose an overpriced bottle from a fancy department store. Choose Chanel No. 5. Choose something advertised in glossy magazines. Choose smelling just like everyone else. Choose a scent. Choose perfume... But why would I want to do a thing like that? I chose not to choose mainstream mass produced perfume. I chose somethin' else. And the reasons? There are no reasons. Who needs reasons when you've got Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab?

Welcome to the world of BPAL addiction, dearie. I have imps of Nocturne, Thalia, and Ultraviolet on my swap/sell pile if you need a fix fast.

Thanks to your earlier posting about BPAL, I figured out what to get each of my roommates for their graduation presents. I can only afford the Imp's Ears, and I ordered the set of 6 sample vials...since I only have 3 roommates, that left 3 other vials for myself. I look forward to hearing your opinions of the scents, since I ordered many of the same you did and have others planned for future money-burning. :)

Welcome to the addiction! The only one of yours I have tried so far is Jezebel, who I like far more than she likes me. Yes, my affair with Jezebel is so fleeting that she runs away almost as soon as I put her on.

That's okay, I have lots of other BPAL loves ;-)

I like Jezebel, but she's all sandalwood on me (with some rose after about half an hour). I'll try it again, but it's going to be strictly a special-occasion imp if the orange blossom doesn't come out to play some more.

Now, Siren, I love.

I caved and ordered six imps--Jezebel (I think it's like mandatory that every woman everywhere who even considers ordering this stuff has to try that), Jolly Roger, Anne Bonney, Tempest (mmm aquatic scents), Tintagel, and High John the Conqueror. I'm doing the Impatient Dance 'til they get here.

Good luck with the book! I'll skip the recap for your greater creative efforts. (Maybe you should order some Wolf's Heart from the Voodoo line...'course by then you'll be done anyway.) I love you to pieces and want you to do well and what the hell, there's always summer reruns. MmmSawyer...

Awww!

I really liked Jezebel, but the one time I tried it (last night), it was all sandalwood on me, and I wanted the rose and orange to come out more. It smelled good, but... it seemed like more of a special occasion scent than a working-at-my-desk scent. I really want to order Tintagel in my next batch, so you'll have to tell me what you think when you get it. And speaking of aquatic, I really want to try R'lyeh, which was described on the boards as "evil, aquatic grapefruit." Mmmm.

So, the question is - do they smell like they are described?

Date: 2005-05-10 11:24 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com
I think so--Titania smelled very like its description. Sometimes I think the descriptions are a little overdramatic, in that the actual scent smells better than you'd expect. I don't think of Jezebel as being a "troublemaker" scent, but it is very languorous. That's why I like to read the bpal.org forums, because people come up with so many great ways to describe things that can be--depending on how the blend interacts with your personal skin--more accurate. I mean, maybe on Elizabeth (the actual "alchemist"), Jezebel *does* smell like trouble.

Oh man, I caved too...and I *hate* perfume so much. I'm extremely sensitive to scent so much that many perfumes, sprays, and lotions make me sick to my stomach and head. But I had to order Venice, Persephone, Dirty, Muse, Belle Epoque, and Desdemona.

From: [identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com
See, I'm so sensitive, and commercial perfumes give me headaches, which is why I fell in love with this place. Belle Epoque is at the top of my next order list, and I'm looking at Venice, too. I have Persephone but haven't tried it yet--apparently that and Blood Rose are two of the best rose scents.

Heh...BPAL ought to send you a few free bottles or something for all the business you brought in with just a couple of passing references!

Out of curiosity, when did you place your order? I'm trying to make a rough estimate as to when my first batch will reach me. (Bon Vivant, La Belle au Bois Dormant, Titania, Glasgow, Bewitched, Moon Rose, Morgause, Ophelia, Dublin, Spellbound, Marie, and The Unicorn...in case anyone was wondering!)

Seriously, y'all, tell 'em Cleolinda sent you if there's a place to say so.

I placed my order in late March, and just got it yesterday. It'll probably take a good six weeks, and the more popular they get, the less that will change.

(Damn, you ordered a lot of the stuff I want--Bon Vivant, Bois Dormant, Glasgow, Moon Rose, Unicorn... and I'm thinking about most of the others as well. All I can say is that I really like Titania so far, out of those.)
