Apr. 24th, 2005 11:14 pmI forgot to mention that Katharine, one of the readers here, wrote in and asked me to post the crazy Harry Potter/Katie Leung haters link--she didn't give me her LJ username, but mentioned that she'd written about it on her journal, and that basically crazy fangirl racism like that needs to be exposed and spoken out against, possibly using more elegant grammatical constructions than the one I just deployed. And it does.
(ETA: I'm not going to link to the hate site in question, but I was able to find it pretty quickly by Googling. I mean, the article does give the name, if not the URL, in the text itself.)
Am still waiting for Aslan news. Seriously, I loved the LOTR movies, but I didn't really enjoy or understand the books until I had the actors in my head the summer before the movie first came out. It was easier to keep everyone straight when I had advance stills in front of me. Narnia, on the other hand? Yeah. Waiting to find out who's voicing Aslan is, for me, like waiting to find out who was going to play Gandalf was for a lot of people. And as Vladimir pointed out, they'll probably tweak the actor's voice digitally to make it a lot deeper and... lion... y... er. So several people I didn't think had deep enough voices are now mentally back in the running.
Let's finish up Pimp Request Amnesty Week, which will be back at the end of May if you missed it this time. I think I got everyone in, but I had a problem pulling up an entry draft at one point--I think it just cut off a couple of misc. links, but I'm not sure. If you commented during the week (AND YES, I WILL REMEMBER YOU) but your pimp didn't make it onto the journal, let me know.
whatever3001: "Ok. There's like 20 minutes left. Let's beg for a random pimp of my icon comm
thunderstills or my challenge
base_challenge. Cause you're amazing like that :) "
iczer6: I messed up the link to Icz's pimp, so I'm repimping it here: http://girlgeniusonline.com/.
joannad: "Oh, um, pimp request! I don't know how many of your readers know about Death Note (and they totally should. it's an awesome manga), but there's a parody RP at
for_justice and we really need more players! Thanks for the exposure!"
clovecigarettes: "If you're still accepting pimpables, there's always my website -- I need to finish my album, maybe a little pimping will be the kick in the pants I need to get it done."
bakednudel: I was sure that someone responded to one of your posts with an animated gif icon of the "LOST" title (word floating through the darkness). I *lustedafter* that icon with a great lust...however, I didn't grab it when I spotted it...and now, hundreds of comments later, I can't find it. *sob* An image search on google didn't turn it up.So if anyone sees this and can point me to that icon, or to where I can ask if it can be used...I would be ever so grateful! *thanks* "
dawnie1970: "Hell, I put my 2 cents in. I want pimpage! Come by to play in or just read my role-playing community I co-mod called
a_new_night. It's Ats S1 AU, Wes/Angel and Doyle/Cordy heavy."
travelsizedoug: "cleolinda dear, you're so good for pimping. And sexy. If you would pimp
firstchair, a community for young musicians who love "classical" music and music in general, I'd love you forever. Also,
gay_ravers is a great community that is quite self-explanatory. I moderate/maintain both."
starr234: "If I'm not too late (I've been driving for the past five hours, so telling time is starting to make my brain hurt), it'd be great if some of the multitudes who read your journal could go over to http://www.getarrested.com and sign the petition, which will hopefully convince Fox to keep Arrested Development around for another season. I'm sorry, this was perhaps the most shallow pimp request ever. I guess I can't have you pimp my new business because I don't have a name for it yet, so AD it is! Um...flattery...Cleo's awesome? ;)"
It was at this point that I realized that people thought "Flattery will get you everywhere" was me trying to say, "So flatter me, and maybe I'll pimp you," when what I was really doing was trying to humorously acknowledge some of the over-the-top thanks I was getting. Sort of like, "And on that note, maybe flattery will get you everywhere." So, uh... I was not actually demanding homage, which is... totally what it looked like, I guess.
sweinberg: "I think you should pimp your favorite geeky Jewish pothead movie critic."
lots42: "Pardon, if I make a breach in ettiquite, but if you are still taking Pimpage Requests, please consider http://www.sir-toby.com/extend-a-story. No ads, no pictures, straight up texty goodness. Branching, choose your own way storyline and any blank pages can be added onto. The new page will appear in moments. There is a concentrated effort to avoid pointless violence and gratitous cheesecake. Instead, we have plot-relevant violence and um...lots of cheesecake. Plus, a talking dog."
Misc. links:
The Daily Kitten!
Capewatch: The masks hit the block today, and bidding immediately went nuts. And Really Useful Films kind of crossed a line in touting the Butlerian detritus still attached to the iconic white mask, I think. Like, seriously, y'all. Don't encourage the crazy. If there's still hair attached to the adhesive, they're just going to make voodoo dolls or clone him or something, and you know it.

Obviously these morons have nver heard of acting before. And I happen to think Katie is cute. Good for her, to get that role!

As long as Azlan is *not* voiced by Tom Hanks, I will be pleased. Although if Cox isn't going to do it, someone really ought to call a]Patrick Stewart b] Tony Jay or c] Alan Rickman...

Your teaser icons from "Gladiator" and "Independence Day" have only increased my glee. Really really really looking forward to it. That's not meant as pressure or anything. Meant more as a pat-on-the-shoulder-and-a-cup-of-hot-chocolate substitute while you work so very hard on it... for you to know that the work is worthwhile.

Date: 2005-04-25 09:21 am (UTC)Thank you for mentioning the alteration of voice! (Although it mightn't be digital -- the good people in the LOTR sound crew did Treebeard using mostly analog techniques, like playing JRD's voice through a long tube made of pinewood.) I also always imagined Aslan sounding like a black man, but that just might be because of Mufasa, yeah.
THE DAILY KITTEH OMG!!!
