Horoscope: Your friends adore you, and today they'll show you just how much. In the mail? I get Tim Tams and a "Never Surrender" bracelet. Aww, thank you, guys!

Let's dole out a few more pimps. Reminder: I am currently just working on the backlog. No new requests will be taken until next month.

[livejournal.com profile] ginmar: ""Can you pimp my domestic violence project? If you're being abused or have been abused, what would have or what would help you? What do you want? What would like people to say or ask? [Go] right here. There's an entry before and after, too about the same subject---the latter one is asking male victims and men in general for their perspective, because what I'm finding is that men's rights groups are absolutely not helping these guys at all. At the very least, they get to talk and vent and smash some stereotypes."

[livejournal.com profile] hadgm: "If it's not too much trouble, could you pimp Daisy's web site? She's been traveling for almost five years now. Thanks!"

[livejournal.com profile] _skulking_: "[livejournal.com profile] ohboyd is a new Billy Boyd comm. We're just starting and the rules are not quite finished yet. But it's intended to be a well modded, Billy content-rich alternative to the current comms."

[livejournal.com profile] boomingvoice: "Heard the latest backstreet song? Feeling a resurgance of love/hate/interest? Join [livejournal.com profile] backstreetboys and keep up with the happenings. Also, like seeing naked famous people's naughty bits? [livejournal.com profile] celebritease is where it's at. And while I'm here, let me sheepishly do ask the following. Please join? You don't even need to do anything, I just want the points. :)"

[livejournal.com profile] anne_jumps: "Why not: Please pimp [livejournal.com profile] jumpfolks, for fans of the band Jump (also known as Jump, Little Children)."

Misc. links:

What the flaming fuck? Harry Potter fanpoodles: Once again proving that it's never too early to start hating any girl who shares the screen with Daniel Radcliffe.

Speaking of which, Sister Girl and I started looking at the cast list for Goblet of Fire and noticed... look at who's playing the band members of the Weird Sisters: two members of Radiohead and the lead singer of Pulp.

Oh, and some more weirdness, also courtesy of Sister Girl: Some guy is claiming to channel Jonathan Brandis. Because what Jonathan Brandis wants from beyond the grave are for his last thoughts on earth to be posted... on the IMDB.

Also: Eeeee hee! They're casting a new voice for Aslan!:
The big news of the Biola Media Conference is that Brian Cox is no longer doing the voice of Aslan! Apparently he has lost some weight and his voice has changed.

Reportedly, Jason Isaacs, Timothy Dalton, Sean Bean, Gerard Butler, Ian McKellen, and Ralph Fiennes have all auditioned for the part. No choice has yet been made. Stay tuned as we’re covering this breaking story!
These are all problematic choices, as 1) McKellen IS Gandalf, and was Gandalf for three whole movies, and forever shall be Gandalf; 2) it's going to confuse the children horribly to go see Ralph Fiennes play Voldemort in November and then hear him play Aslan in December; and 3) as for the other guys--well, Aslan should not be sexy, I'll put it that way. (Complete non sequitur: I do have hopes that Timothy Dalton will get to reprise his role from the His Dark Materials stage play in the movie adaptation.)

Actually, now that I think about it, my primary criteria for an Aslan voice are deep, booming, and beneficent. It suddenly occurred to me that Alan Rickman would make a very, very good Aslan, and it would come out different enough from his Snape voice that I don't think it would be that big of a conflict.

Capewatch: The cape is holding strong at "Too much damn money," but the white mask just hit the block and jumped from "Damn, that's a chunk of change" to "Oh my God, you people are insane" while I was watching. Literally, the price doubled on a single refresh. Also: Sort the items on that link by "highest price first" and watch the hilarity. The first non-Butler item is the wedding dress, down at number ten, below items he may or may not have even touched. The crazy is strong on this one.

I've already bid $50 as my max bid on the Reyer baton because I have a scary oldman crush on him. Hopefully the rest of the women will get distracted by the OMG GERRY WAS NEAR THIS OBJECT stuff and leave my baton alone.

Also, I agree wholeheartedly that Aslan should not in any way be sexy. Just...no.

@ the Jonathan Brandis channeler, I actually knew him when he was alive through a mutual friend and we were both crushed when he was gone - so that's really upsetting to see, I need to find that moron and hurt him in very pretty ways. Grrr.

Well, I love me some Deep Voices of the British Isles, so I'm pretty much done for no matter what happens, but... I have a feeling that some actors will be able to consciously tone down the sexy better than others. Like, McKellen has a wonderful voice, but he's got Shakespearean Declamation mode that he can shift into. I'm not sure Sean Bean could tone it down if he wanted to.

Wow, did you get to see HDM at the National too? I thought Timothy Dalton was excellent as Lord Asriel. I had my doubts after seeing his less-than-inspiring performances in James Bond movies, but he was just as I had imagined Lord Asriel. Although for me he was kind of eclipsed by Lyra and Will, who I thought were phenomenally good. It was only when Lyra was squaring up to Mrs Coulter that I realised she was actually an adult. I loved the scene when they met for the first time - I almost cried with laughter!

Oh, hell no. I'm still quietly tucked away here in Alabama as always. I just heard very good things about it, and he looked just right in all the production stills I saw. I don't know--it sounds like nothing more than judging without seeing, but sometimes I get good/bad vibes off a casting choice. I got weird vibes off Brian Cox for Aslan. I get good vibes off Dalton for Asriel. What can I say? I did the whole movie news thing for a long time, and I was the only person who championed the whole Johnny Depp/Pirates of the Caribbean thing back when everyone was still clutching their pearls over a movie based on a theme park ride. Sometimes you just know.

I'm actually floored at how *low* some of the non-famous-person costumes are going for... £50 for the sun king costume, and there's six more going for less... granted, the sun king jumped to £67, but still - the fabric alone cost more than that, I guarantee. These are full costumes, people. I mourn for the lack of appreciation of costume design.

I get a kick out of the entry for the wedding dress because it mentions that it's "slightly water damaged" (and somewhat green) because of the way it was used in the movie. Hee!

I'm pretty surprised that the cape is going for more than the mask. I mean, the mask is the ICON! You can get a cape anywhere, but the mask is the PHANTOM'S MASK.

Date: 2005-04-24 11:31 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] agentsculder.livejournal.com
Yeah, but the cape got flipped around and it's a large item. Also there were a bunch of different masks used throughout the course of filming and I doubt there are a bunch of capes. However, I would not be shocked if the white mask eventually surpasses the cape because that white mask is so iconic.

This might be like the world's stupidest suggestion, but how about the other guy cast as a big booming lion voice in recent children's movie history. Ya know, James Earl Jones...? Maybe having the same guy voice two lions might confuse the kiddies, but I think not, and there's no doubt, that is THE perfect lion voice. Any particular reason no one else has come up with this one, because it seemed too obvious to me for y'all to have missed it.

As for Alan Rickman, I love the guy, but his work always says "cutting and sarcastic wit" to me (which is of course why I love him). And I'm thinking that's not the take-home message with Aslan. Hmmmm... Pierce Brosnan appears to have lost the James Bond gig, might he be a good choice?

Date: 2005-04-24 11:28 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] agentsculder.livejournal.com
I was thinking Peter O'Toole might be an interesting choice to do Aslan's voice. Although maybe there would be concern about using him due to his age. But Brian Blessed would do nicely: big, booming, and British! I have to say though, if the story is true, I find it amusing that they brought in Sean Bean and Gerard Butler. Part of me thinks it was just because someone wanted to hear them talk rather than seriously considering either for the part. Because that makes much more sense than either giving voice to a Jesus lion.
