God, the Spider-Man subtitles are ass. The movie's in widescreen, but their widescreen ain't so wide, if you get what I'm saying, so you don't get those nice, neat little white titles on the lower black bar. No, we've got these giant, intrusive yellow titles all over the movie itself. Great. Thanks. And yeah, subtitles (when available) are a vital part of the movie parodying process, as those of y'all who read my Lost recaps will know from my constant mishearings of things. Sigh.

The summer movie preview Entertainment Weekly just came in. Interesting pictures on some of these movies--and they put Batman ahead of Star Wars, which tickles my schadenfreude bone for some reason. Still, way too many pictures of Wookiees for my taste.

Also, I'm trying something new with my Yahoo calendar--making certain things available for y'all to see. Granted, I'm not showing you everything, but I'm thinking I'll post anything interesting I see in the TV listings, like good movie recommendations (you can add to calendar straight from Yahoo TV), and you can get a small glimpse into my schedule. Because, you know, I am just that fascinating.

(The real reason I'm posting this link is because all the new Lost eps are marked on my calendar, and if you hover your cursor over the event title "Lost," you can read a brief summary of that ep. ABC put out a press release, apparently, which I in turn snaffled from a Snarkfest post.)

(Note: please do not try to add me to your Yahoo Messenger, because I'm going to turn you down. It's nothing personal; I just don't have time to talk to folks. Seriously, I use it to talk to one person (guess), and occasionally Sister Girl when she's too lazy to walk twelve feet over to my room.)

Meanwhile: I'm doling out the last several pimps in smaller groups, so: if you haven't appeared yet, you will. Yes, new requests are closed until the end of May.

[livejournal.com profile] aberranteyes: "Could I possibly inveigle you into pimping aeoncontinuum and the comms for the individual Trinity Universe role-playing games ([livejournal.com profile] aeonadventure, [livejournal.com profile] aeonaberrant and [livejournal.com profile] aeontrinity)? They're actually [livejournal.com profile] etherlad's, not mine, but I'm doing this as a favor for him, since I'm sure there must be a TU fan somewhere on your flist. ^_^ "

[livejournal.com profile] cabellicious: "For people interested in fun, affordable art, [livejournal.com profile] frippy does awesome paintings, and has recently branched out to some painted objects like boxes. She's got a website with a lot of her art available to view at http://mentalsewage.com and she's started listing her work on eBay if you're interested in buying some. It'd be really nice if she could get some exposure because right now she feels like she's pressuring her immediate circle of friends to buy her work, not that she actually IS, but she definitely deserves a wider audience. I have one of her bunny paintings in my living room and lots of people have commented (favorably) on it."

[livejournal.com profile] icaruscrucified: "Could you also be so kind as to point out that tomorrow (April 23rd) is 24 Hour Comics Day? It's a worthy cause overflowing with geekery. Hooray! Further information can be found at www.24hourcomics.com."

[livejournal.com profile] _angsty: "You could pimp me.. because I always like having new friends. :) Yay? Oh, also, Anderson Cooper 360, which is on at 7:00 on weekdays on CNN and everyone should watch it because Andy's the best. And Dr. Sanjay is also excellent."

Land of the Lost: The Movie?

Daaaaaaaaaamn, yo:
Orthopedic surgeon Gary Michelson said Friday he is considering philanthropic alternatives for some of the $1.35 billion Medtronic Inc. plans to pay him to end a patent dispute.

"All you can really do with that kind of money is give it away. There's no way you can spend it," he said. "What I'm interested in doing is setting up a medical research foundation and seeing if we can't make a difference in the world."
Dear Dr. Michelson: Please marry me. Not because you are now filthy rich, but because you are awesome. P.S. You are also cute.

Hee. I finally downloaded AIM to talk to a couple of specific people on a specific occasion, and now I'm just afraid to open it.

Dr. Michelson looks very well-preserved for a 56 yr old. Yeah, I'd hit that.

Speaking of medicine, I'm so glad to hear that your mother is all right. *hugs*

We watch almost all of our movies with subtitles now because my hubby and I get tired of looking at eachother asking "what did they say?"

I hate the yellow subtitles.

From: [identity profile] megmatthews20.livejournal.com
Are you going to add a joke about the ginormous subtitles then? That'd be fun. My mum always uses subtitles due to hearing troubles, and now I just use them by habit. You get a ton more of the story that way. Like for instance, who knew LOTR was set in a place called Middle-Earth?

It's always fun talking to family members on some form of instant message system, then to have them yell at you from the other room on top of that. My mom and I do that most of the time when we're both online. :-¦Þ

Keep that wonderful book coming!

Since you posted the link to the Phantom's cape on eBay, I've kept a window open to refresh periodically and gawk at whatever someone's willing to pay for it this hour.

Anyway, I just thought you'd be interested to know it's up to over four thousand dollars US already. I wonder if it would be possible to bid 'my soul'.

Date: 2005-04-24 01:00 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com
I'm betting the final bid's going to look something like, "All my worldly goods, my first three children, my eternal soul, and $10,632." As someone on Snarkfest cracked, "They do understand that Gerard Butler doesn't come with the cape, right?"

Wookie. Wookie is just a funny word. I've always got a kick out of saying it. It sounds a little like a perverted baked good.

As for Batman...it looks awesome. Or maybe Christian Bale looks awesome (I still have a Laurie fixation from my youth). Either way, good stuff.

I'm not sure how I feel about Dr. Michelson. On the one hand, the Yahoo article makes him sound like a saint, but I just read in the New York Times (http://www.nytimes.com/2005/04/23/business/23medronic.html) that he basically patented all these things and then didn't do anything with them. Later, when other people actually implemented his inventions or very similar ones, he went No You Can't Do That HORS and tied the companies up in litigation. The Times article said that he hasn't invented anything new for several years because he was so tied up with the lawsuits. So...don't know what to think. There's always two side, y'know?

Yeah--I hate to be cynical, but there *was* something about the story that struck me as being too good to be true.

Yellow subtitles all over the movie? Sounds like you've got yourself a copy of the pirated Malaysian version. We're the number 1 distributor of pirated media, doncha know.

(Seriously. All the VCD/DVD/software shops here sell pirated stuff. I haven't been able to find those selling originals here at all. Perhaps one or two, but they're subsets of bookstores and music stores more than anything else.)

Date: 2005-04-24 01:10 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com
Nah, it's the real thing. Two-disc set, got it at Best Buy. I think the reason they're yellow is because, since the titles are over the actual movie, they have to be able to show up against all colors, and yellow is basically the most obnoxious thing they could come up with.

Coolness, someone pimped 24 Hour Comic Day! I just participated in it!

Well, we hosted it a day early, so some of my former art teacher's students could take a day off from school (slackers), and we went from 8am Friday to 8am this morning. I feel like a zombie, but it was verreh verreh nifteh and much fun was had by all.

I recommend it to anyone who enjoys making art* to participate next year.

* I say art, not comics, because several students did 24 paintings in 24 hours, rather than 24 pages of a comic. Just as good. :)

Is there a way to change your yahoo! avatar to something doesn't look like an Abercrombie and Finch model? The jagged cheekbones, tiny chins and button noses are mocking me. I might as well copy your avatar for my own profile for all the resemblances they bear.

EW does have a habit of giving the summer movie preview issue to the resident comic book movie. They did it for X-Men and Spider-Man.

Not so weird, as my best friend is ready to sit outside of the theater on opening day. Frankly I think this has more to do with her mad love of Ioan Gruffudd than it does with any deep seated appriciation of the comic art form. But still, she's looking forward to that one.

I usually don't read it because the writing is so smarmy and look-I'm-clever-but-I'm-not.
I actually read the whole Summer Preview issue though. It was informative.

Dr. Michelson is one hoopy frood.
