Independence Day coming along really well. Just... really, really slow. I hate this--I'm having great ideas, but I was supposed to be finished with the whole book as of last Friday. Craaaaaap.

Anyway. I know y'all are probably going to hit me, but I can't tell you the extent of my relief upon finding out that last night's Lost was a repeat ("Outlaws"). This is not to say that I don't love the show, or that I don't love recapping it. My problem is just that--the show takes one hour and then the recap takes another three, and those three hours involve some hard, fast writing. It takes a lot out of you. I don't have anything left to be taken out of me right now, what with being over this deadline and all. I hear next week is the big clip show, which... I'm not sure how that's going to work. Like, are they all going to get together and try to remind Claire of all the stuff she never knew anyway, because it's other people's flashbacks forgot, or is it going to be, like, a show actually hosted by the actors? Because I'm thinking it's going to be way cheesy either way.

Pimp Request Amnesty Week continues:

From [livejournal.com profile] freethegayboys: Subject: PIMP ME!!! *dances... erotically to get your attention*

"
I don't know if you're still taking PIMP requests, but this one (For me) is kind of important... I'm planning to write an essay on the nature of fandom, and I want as many different sides of fandom, and all types of fandom-people to respond. I really do need a HELL of a lot of information for it to work. If people want to comment here... I'd really appreciate it... a lot. *grin* "

Also,[livejournal.com profile] lorien__ is looking for a couple of songs, if you could help us out: "The songs are 'Nightmare by the Sea' and 'Witches' Rave' by Jeff Buckley and it's from the album that was released after his death, My Sweetheart the Drunk."

Speaking of music, something for y'all while I'm down here in the comedy mines:

The Killers: "Somebody Told Me (original)"
http://s3.youshareit.com/files/a1af0d710c5f3c5f7341a8f9f3246a54.html

The Killers: "Somebody Told Me (King Unique Vocal Remix)"
Not to be confused with the "King Unique Frogger Dub," by the way. I really love it--I actually think the song works better with a layer of techno over it. Very nicely blended--not one of those remixes that just repeats half a line over and over again against a techno beat and an intermittent WHOOP WHOOP WHOOP WHOOP. I mean, Strong Bad can get away with it, but it gets tired after a while.
http://s3.youshareit.com/files/abbb9746e1aece81b43f9ef57e552130.html

The Killers: "Somebody Told Me (Mylo Remix)"
Starts off with two and a half minutes of nothing but remixed guitars, and is awesome.
http://s3.youshareit.com/files/7aa6583eb1145e14cf19a888d0680a34.html

And guess what? No download limits! SWEET.

Misc:

Wow... they don't sell Surge anymore? Wait... it has less sugar and caffeine than Mountain Dew? The hell? Surge used to make my frickin' heart race, y'all! I remember they'd bring the Surge truck around to the school parking lot and I'd be all like, "Nah, you guys, that shit's gonna kill me. I got to stick to doing the Dew, y'all." In fact--you know how J.K. Rowling's website has her little interactive desk covered with gum wrappers? Yeah. If that were my site, it'd be covered with Mountain Dew bottles rolling around and falling off the shelf onto my head.

Just for that, I'm putting a Surge joke into Independence Day.

ETA, because I can't believe I forgot to say it: Thanks so much for all the good thoughts for Mom. All of them meant so much to me.

Don't forget that next wednesday's Lost is a special recap of all the backstories told so far. Then come May, it's all new episodes every Wednesday with a Finale spanning 3 hrs. 1 hour on May 19th and 2 hours on May 25th. You may have all the fun in the word with the episode title "Exodus". Will Walt part the waters for Locke to pass? Will Sawyer start reading the bible? Only the monster knows...*flaps away*

we totally used to make surge even more sugary then what it was. we would drink half of it, then take one of those giant pixi stix and dump it in. it turned the drink a puke brown and made our teeth grind together. but it gave us that surge of engery *no pun intended* for marching band. we were kind of weird in high school...

how do you feel about the various MD flavours? are they welcome additions to your fix, or are they brazen infiltrators of the One True Dew?

and what about Pibb Xtra? or Jolt? i <3 fountain Jolt, particularly with raw sugar.

and what about energy drinks, such as Red Bull? they're tasty and good, but admittedly can get rather expensive. unless you get yourself a case of the Thai variants, in which case they come in neat little stubby gold cans that are rather interesting to stack up, too.

mmm, caffeine. <3

I've actually never had an energy drink--or any other flavor of Mountain Dew, although I wouldn't mind trying another flavor. I do kind of worry about energy drinks, for some reason.

My mom was really against giving me and my brother Mountain Dew because of all the, well sugar and caffeine, so once at the supermarket they were giving out free samples of Surge and she said we could have it if we promised never to ask for Mountain Dew again. And of course, Surge being the omgsocool thing it was back then, we agreed, and honestly? I don't think I've had Mountain Dew since then. Go mom.

I remember, Surge was the first soda I ever drank when I moved to America in 5th grade. And the place that I had it, my old school's football stadium's snack shack, is the only place I know of that still sells it. In fountain form, obviously. Which resuts in an annual pilgrimage back there, and sitting through a sporting event with half my town, just for some Surge.
Come to think of it, after moving away, I never really drank any other soda.
Except for root beer and cream soda, but those are in a category above regular soda.

Um, on the subject of putting a Surge joke into the book, since they're not selling it any more, and it never was available outside the US (to my knowledge, or rather I've never heard of it) it may fall flat with any international audience you might have. Just a thought, feel free to ignore it.

And then ANOTHER friend sent me a whole bunch of Killers songs, that one being one of them. AND THEN it was on the radios, and NOW you're talking about it! I'd never heard of it before the start of this month.
