NNNNNGGGGHHHHH. I loathe head colds, and here's why: if you get a fever or a stomach upset of some sort, the worst is basically all upfront. You suffer a little, you down some meds, you recover. With head colds, it's like each new phase is its own fresh hell. The Allergra D seems to be working, in that now all this crap is mutating and migrating to my throat and chest. (Yay! Another mucus report! I know you're thrilled.) So now I'm developing the Sporadic Hard Cough, which is still not as awful as the Endless Racking Cough That Won't Stop And Will, In Fact, Get You Shot In Many Classrooms And Movie Theaters. And yet I can almost deal with the Endless Cough better, because it's sort of a mind over matter thing: you just have to not start coughing in the first place. It's like not scratching mosquito bites: if you can hold off that first time, you can conquer it. Granted, it's hard as hell to not cough, but at least it's a silent struggle that won't get your punk ass capped in fine establishments all over town. The Sporadic Hard Cough is easier to control, but it hurts, dammit. So, to this end, I am stocking up on cough drops, which I normally hate, but there's a specific brand that comes in lemon, orange and grapefruit, and don't taste coughy-droppy at all, and when Mom gets back from her Saturday Shopping Safari of Savings, I'll let you know what the name is.

Ooh, paradise fruit cough drops... which really gives me cause to wonder if paradise is all that great, if there's still a need for cough drops. But anyway!

I can totally relate to Endless Cough, having had it for the last week or so. All through Sin City, too, woe. Luckily, I was not shot.

Get better!

I know that's not the right one, but I was hoping the image of me in lederhosen might scare the bugs right out of ya;)

Might be the Halls Defense with Vitamin C? Those come in yummy fruit flavours and are the only ones I've ever had that don't taste like Death flavoured hard candy . . . .

That'd be my guess too. I love those things, I actually eat them even when I'm not sick. The grapefruit flavored ones are fantastic.

Oh, and Strawberry!! The strawberry ones are fantastic too!

Strawberry? Damn, I've never had those.

Hee. My favourite are the orange. A friend of mine made me get them when I was sick (we're both in the college chorus class, and she demanded that I get better before we sang publicly) and they were awesome. Helped bunches, too. ^_^

My guess, too. I really enjoyed those, despite the cough.

Yep. They're almost worth buying even when one is not sick.

Ohhhh you might want to be careful that doesn't turn into a respitory infection - I had a head cold like October of 2003, didn't treat it and kept playing soccer in the cold and rain, and I ended up almost being taken to the hospital. It almost turned into bronchitis.

Then a couple months later I got ANOTHER infection, and now I have (mild) asthma. The cough does not go away - I have to keep an inhaler with me incase the Endless Cough starts up. (I will also point out that the Endless Cough is what made me pee my pants when I saw Jon Stewart last year)

For for christsakes - take it easy with the whole chest/lungs thing. Mine happened like a year and a half ago and I'm still recovering from it. *prays that doesn't happen to Cleo*

I've only had this since Tuesday or Wednesday--it seems like it's moving pretty quickly to me. At what point should I get worried?

If when you're coughing you can feel stuff moving around in your lungs and you can feel you're trying to bring stuff up, then I would head to the doctor. Especially if you start wheezing when you're just trying to breathe.

I was put on antibiotics, and that cleared everything but the cough up really quick.

Just since about Tuesday or Wednesday. It's moving pretty quickly compared to other colds I've had.

Oh, okay that is not that long. I would go to a doctor though if you are not feeling better by Monday or Tuesday. Just like the lezopez before me, I have had sinus infections turn into bronchitis. I hate to tell ya to go get anti-biotics unnecessarily though. My sister is a nurse and she is really noticing a upsurge in resistant infections.

I get sinus infections at least two or three times a year. I take AllegraD year round although I try not to take it at night because it will keep you awake (AllegraD is also is a very mild depressant, I just found that out a little while ago). I have started allergy shots and that seems to be helping.

Last winter my friend and I had the Sporadic Hard Cough for the whoooooole winter (and in Saskatchewan that's a long time!). We decided to call it Death because it sounded like we were about to die.

I thought I was rid of Death...until I got it again this week. I feel your pain.

Oooh, Fruit Breezers. They're good, but the problem is they're good even when you're not feeling ill. Just all menthol-y. Still, yum. And hope you're feeling better. And if someone feels obliged to lug you to a doctah, put up the obligatory fight, but know -- it's for your own good.

The fruit ones are quite tasty indeedy but there's another that's great and doesn't taste too nasty, it's a Robitussin one with a LIQUID honey center that soothes nicely. Just thought I'd share that since they've saved me from MANY MANY coughing attacks (including one at a funeral! GASP!)

Attempting to sleep in any position other than sitting up with a pillow propping my back: hacking. Temperature change from warm indoors to slightly-cooler outdoors or vice versa: hacking. Exertion beyond perhaps walking from the couch to the bathroom (and God forbid I have to climb stairs): hacking. Please tell us what kind of cough drops they are becaue at this point I'll try anything once.

Hmm. Well, I have ended up with an off-brand version--"CVS Pharmacy Assorted Citrus Vitamin C Supplement Drops," but it says "Compare to the active ingredient in Halls," so there's two leads for you right there.

I swear by the licorice/honey Ludens. Licorice tastes enough like menthol that it covers and improves the taste. Thing is, you have to like licorice/anise.

From: [identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com
See, I don't, so... I'm way too picky about my cough drop flavors, unfortunately. The citrus drops and cherry Luden's, I think, are about all I can stand.

I hope you don't mind if I friend you, but I find your re-caps very amusing and always have a good time reading the things you write. See you around!

Wow...that's so exactly true about the different types of cough! I'm sitting here laughing out loud at this. I always dread going out in public when I have an Endless Cough, particularly if it's to class or the movies.

I know I really shouldn't be laughing at your plight, but... ahahahahahaha!

P.S. Did you see the [livejournal.com profile] metaquotes wank? It's just been deleted, which is a pity as 'twas hilarious.

Someone posted a post, which was fairly funny really 'cept it wasn't a quote, which was basically:

every_lj_user_ever -

I'm going to say something vagueley funny and OMG maybe I'll get metaquoted!!!111! But I talk like this all the time!!! I'm not TRYING to be metaquoted!!!111

And every_lj_user_ever is quoted, and it is put behind a cut because OMG it might upset someone somewhere!!!11!!

So, now that we've all been quoted, can we please get back to the funny posts?

In the comments there were a couple of 'word's and 'amen's, but mostly there was much mocking and quoting the 'if you don't find it funny, don't bother bitching' bit from the userinfo. The OP was pretty darned bitchy to the mockers, and the mod-type person posted a comment saying they weren't going to delete the post as the comments were too funny, but that the OP was banned for continuing to bitch in the comments. As soon as that comment came up, the post was deleted, I'm assuming by the OP. Which is a shame, as I didn't get a chance to participate!!!
