Well... now. I... kind of don't know what to say.

ETA: Let me clarify. I want to see it again so I won't be peeking through my fingers at all the jump scares and gore this time. It was worth the first $6, and it would be worth another $6.

ETA 2: Awwww, shit, another thunderstorm. Excuse me while I go back up my Word documents...

It was good. Just very visceral and overwhelming and I need caffeine. And maybe some brain bleach for the parts with Elijah Wood and Nick Stahl.

I really liked it. But if gore is had for you to handle, I wouldn't go see it. But it is, without a doubt, a major cinematic achievement. I'm glad I got to see it on the big screen. I'll probbaly go see it again tomorrow. Hopefully there will not be a crying baby at that showing.

I have a review posted at my LJ if anyone is interested in reading it.

Gore doesn't bother me, but I think I would see it anyway based on the following magic three words "shirtless Clive Owen".

Yeah.. I heard Quentin Tarantino co-directed it... or guest directed... or something. So I decided that I'd try my hand at it. We're going to go see it prolly tomorrow... for free (my fiance' works at a movie theater).

I've already heard that it was quite bloody/gory... is it Kill Bill bloody/gory... or beyond that?

Date: 2005-04-01 10:30 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] robot-sarah.livejournal.com
It doesn't really have the same effect as Kill Bill because it's in black and white. Or maybe it's just me. It's gory, yeah, but again, it just doesn't have the same effect on me because it's not in full color.

I think I know where she's coming from.
There are some movies I've seen that are good, but that I don't feel very motivated to see again.
Like "Kill Bill Vol. 1". Or "Once Upon A Time In Mexico".
I could see it again, but I hesitate.

And then, there are the good movies I never want to see again.
Like "Requiem For A Dream". Or "Mystic River". Or "The Wall".
Seen it once, was enough. Good, but bad for my soul.

"Sin City" sounds like the first case.

I'll probably go see it, as soon as I get more bucks.

That was exactly my reaction!

I knew it was going to be bloody, but that level of gore and scary jumps was just...it was interesting. I hate seeing scary movies in the theater for that reason. And it was just so--so different, I guess, though that's a dumb description. My head was spinning on the way out.

Date: 2005-04-02 12:13 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com
Seriously, the spinning is why I came home dazed. I'm still marshalling my thoughts.

All I know is, I really want me one of those three main guys. Possibly a Dwight, if I can swing it, but a Hartigan would be nice. Even a Marv. The movie had a very strange sense of chivalry that was sort of attractive in its own way.

I so totally forgot that Elijah Wood was in this so when he appeared on-screen as a psychopathic freakball, I brayed laughter before I could stop myself.

He looked like a crazed Harry Potter in a Charlie Brown sweater. I even exclaimed out loud in a lousy English cockney accent, "'arry Potter!" I was subsequently hushed by my husband...

OMG I saw it today and it was sooo good! I never understood the Clive Owen=sexy thing until I saw this movie and it hit me like a ton of bricks. CLIVE! CLIVE! CLIVE!

Oh, my Benicio, there is still love for you too.

My room mate fell asleep during it, but I was leaning forward in my seat watching it. I never thought I'd like Bruce Willis so much. She at least stayed awake for the Elijah Wood bits, and even though he was creepy as fuck, boy can still do no wrong.

I'M SAYING, MAN. I so want a Dwight of my own. I literally just curled up in my seat and went "Eeeeeeeeee!" (silently) when he first walked up behind Brittany Murphy in her apartment. "Oh shit! Oh shit! Shit's gonna go down now! Eeeeeeeee!"

I never thought I'd like Bruce Willis so much.

DUDE, for real. Although I laughed a little too loud when he said, "I'm old enough to be your grandfather!" That had to hurt.

She at least stayed awake for the Elijah Wood bits, and even though he was creepy as fuck, boy can still do no wrong.

I LOVE the graphic novel of That Yellow Bastard. It's a sweet love story, when you get right down to it. Hartigan is just that moral of a guy, that he wouldn't let Nancy get involved physically with a geezer like himself. It's not that he doesn't love her... he does... and he respects her too, and sees her getting into his pants are more degrading to herself than anything else. Old-fashioned staight-laced cop.

That's my $0.02 anyways.
