I have a headache, so I'm taking a break from work. (Deadlines do not take the weekends off, unfortunately.) So, a little linkspam on my way to the bottle of Advil:

THIS FIGURE SHALL BE MINE. OH YES. THIS FIGURE SHALL BE MINE.

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy site opens. Plus, Coming Soon has a new picture. Awww.

I just hit B-List over at Snarkfest. I demand that y'all FT refugees join, if you have not already, and help keep things going.

I'm listening to the "Cells" instrumental, and while it's really well put together under the circumstances... yeah. It's really patchy. It may not be as noticeable if you're just playing the track in the open air and not wearing headphones, as I am. Of course, you're talking to someone who used to pull her headphone jack halfway out of her Discman to hear the background vocals and instrumentals better, so... the patchy effect really isn't that new to me. The fan edit just brings home the fact that an officially-produced instrumental version would ROCK. And my understanding is that "Cells" has been used in the trailers and commercials, but will not actually be on the soundtrack. (Really, music used in previews and music used in the actual movie rarely overlap. This isn't a surprise.) So... I don't know who we go beg for this, but... please? Somebody? The Servant? Robert Rodriguez? Help?

Oops, last comment came out wrong....Sorry, deleted now.

Anyway, I was trying to direct you to this (http://costumes.glittersweet.com/movies/galadriel.htm) website, where a cosplayer has done a creditable job of recreating Dark Galadriel's garb.

Thank you. That was mine, I'd still like to redo the breastplate.

Being but a poor gimp I couldn't actually afford the materials I wanted to make it from.

Ah well.

Yeah, I had a listen to the instrumental version, and... since I always have to listen on my headphones... maybe it's just because losing my low frequency hearing has sensitized me to high frequencies... but OUCH. The scratching hurts, just a tad...

It's a commendable effort, yeah. But I can't handle the pitches with my ears.

Oh no. It's very noticeable. Very, very noticeable. The effort is commendable but still amateurish.

Ooh, yeah I imagine it would hurt on headphones. It was pretty bad up too loud in my car, but on regular speakers or turned down a bit it's still pretty good.

Condolences -- I'm in the same boat. Mine's on the 23rd, and no way in hell am I going to make it. It would take a miracle or a couple of clones.

Good luck, hope you fare better than I.

I love the Dark Galadriel figurine, but now I'm kind of annoyed at Amazon. Apparently since I looked at ONE TOY, I must be a completely and utterly obsessive LOTR fan--"The Page [I] Made" is now 50% LOTR merchandise. And since I now hesitate to find out by searching through Amazon (who knows what else they might try to sell me--a large white castle in New Zealand, perhaps?), I can only ponder: what exactly distinguishes the Return of the King Platinum Series special edition from other special editions?

From: [identity profile] vladimirsever.livejournal.com
I think that New Line just likes to call their best DVDs a "Platinum Collection". The new Texas Chainsaw Massacre got that tag slapped onto it, too. So they just put it onto the EE boxes as well... In Europe, those exact same DVDs don't carry any platinum tag!

I use Semagic to do it, where it's an easy option, but if you're just writing out the code, add target=blank before the final >. Like, ...whatever.com" target=blank>.

Dark Galadriel will sit on your desk and sympathize when the shit gets heavy. And smite people, there's that.

Am I missing something, or is Snarkfest all done in blog style? Isn't that kind of annoying if you just want to deal with certain subjects?

There's more than one Snarkfest. (http://snarkfest.com/)

I didn't do the link-clicky the first time, because I had Yahoo open in another window just sitting there, and I thought, "Ah, I'll just type it in." And apparently in invision boards link was down and the other one worked and I though they were the same and figured, "Gee, it's like TWOP only...way lite."

Clicked the link this time. Joined. Thank you.

Yay! Excellent. (See, it works almost exactly the way the FT boards do, only several things I like a little better, so I was like, "Blog...?")

I'm already up to B-List! Whee!

(What name are you using?)

Date: 2005-03-22 05:56 am (UTC)

My name is 'mercutia'. It is also 'mercutia' on JF. I would have been 'mercutia' on LJ except it was taken at the time. Though I kind of like 'edda' as an alternate persona, if by 'alternate' we mean 'even whingier and more neurotic than usual'.

Go ON with your bad self. I'm still hangin' out with Kathy Griffin on the D-List.

I just wanted to mention that today the Hartford Courant (newspaper) had a ginormous picture from Sin City blasted on the front page of the arts section. It's the picture with Bruce Willis that everyone and their mother has seen, but it was pretty exciting since I've never seen that picture in the flesh before. Just on the internets.

The "Cells" instrumental version is very patchy, it's not just you. It started to bother me halfway through because I'm not good at listening to music with no words. The lyrics may be dorky, but, dammit, they are lyrics!

Date: 2005-03-20 04:23 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sprunkle.livejournal.com
For some reason the dorky lyrics (we ate Chinese off our knees? WTF?) have sort of grown on me. You can't fight the music, baby.

Well, if you can hang with the forum ethos--good grammar, affectionate snark, no personal sniping--you'll probably fit in just fine. A lot of people are showing up who used to lurk (or claim they lurked) and never posted anyway.

Have joined. I think I can easily obey the laws of the land. It seems like a pretty cool place.

I didn't make a point of saying that I got there through your journal...if I accidentally commit some transgression, I wouldn't want everyone to turn their baleful stares in your direction. "For the love of puppies, WHY did you lead her here?!"
