Y'all, Christina is in trouble again. That is to say, the Phantom/15M fundraiser we did over December helped, but--I knew it was never going to help enough. And now things are really, really bad.
I'm asking y'all to help again. As before, I'm only asking for a dollar from each of y'all. If you can give more, God bless you. If you can't give at all--can't afford it, don't have the means to transfer money--God bless you all the same. This isn't about guilting anyone into giving. I just want to put this out there and say, if you can help, if you want to help, please--please do this now, because--I'm scared for Christina. This has to happen.
Here's what I'm going to do. My book deadline is coming up soon. I'm setting a fundraising deadline to come in after that--let's say April 15. Did you like "Phantom of the Opera in Fifteen Minutes"? Because I will give you another one. If you raise whatever amount of money--whatever we end up setting as a goal--I will parody any movie in theatrical release, as decided by y'all. (Exception: comedies. Can't do comedies, for reasons that ought to be obvious. This is the reason I don't think I'll ever be able to do Lemony Snicket after all. No Hitchhiker's Guide, sorry.) And we will actually keep a stricter tally this time, because if y'all can raise twice that first goal? I will do a second movie. And it can be any movie that is not a comedy ever made, ever, in the history of ever. Y'all can vote whatever torture on me that you want. I am serious.
So this is a preliminary post. What I want to know is, who's interested in helping out this time? What movies are y'all interested in? Please refer to Greg's Previews through May, particularly April and May. Think hard, y'all. Sin City. Kingdom of Heaven. Star Wars. I will do anything y'all vote for. And you remember how POTO/15M turned out. Please help me out with this--it meant so much last time. I only wish it could fix everything.
ETA: So, again: I'm putting out a call for everyone who wants to help out to chip in a dollar. Feel free to give more if you can, and don't worry if you can't give any, but before you scroll on down to the next entry on your friends list, ask yourself--a dollar's easy, right? And before you say, "Oh, a dollar won't do anything," think about this: 2400+ have me on their friends list. There are 10,249 people who are current members of the
m15m community. There's some overlap, and not everyone will--or can--give. But if 5000 people give one dollar, that's $5000 more than Christina and her family have today, and it may save her life. Please, y'all.
No one can see the answers but me, and I am seriously not looking at the names. I am not keeping a list of donors and checking it twice against my friends list, so don't stress if you can't give. And please enter the number as 1.00, or whatever--that's easier to tally in Excel than "one dollar." The purpose of the tally is to find out how much "Fifteen Minutes" punishment you get to inflict on me (she said with a wink).
Damn polls. Sorry. Go here to log your donation.

Date: 2005-03-12 07:35 pm (UTC)I seem to be doing a lot of nice things this March, so let's make a month of it. I can totally give a dollar, except I don't know how or where. I can't find a proper link.

Date: 2005-03-12 08:50 pm (UTC)The PayPal fee (and the Amazon.com honor system fee) is 2.9% + 0.30 for each transaction. That means that if you donate a dollar, only 0.67 actually makes it. To ensure that Christina gets a dollar, you have to give $1.34. It doesn't seem like a lot, but when you're comparing 5000 people giving a dollar to $5000, it's not accurate: after PayPal fees, it's $3350. Which is still a lot, but still. PayPal fees are a way of life, and it's normally up to the recipient to eat those costs for the convenience, but this is a charity dealie. So I don't know how you want to philosophically log the donations (probably raw donation, as I doubt everyone wants to do the math), but in any case, here's a helpful conversion list.
$1.00 -> $1.34
$2.00 -> $2.37
$3.00 -> $3.40
$4.00 -> $4.43
$5.00 -> $5.46
$10.00 -> $10.60
$15.00 -> $15.75
$20.00 -> $20.90
$25.00 -> $26.06
$50.00 -> $51.80
$100.00 -> $103.30
For Christina to get X, you must donate (X + 0.30)/0.971. It seems anal, but the whole idea behind this is that a lot of little donations equals a lot. But a lot of little fees also equals a lot.
