Feb. 27th, 2005 01:41 pmA behind-the-scenes look at Oscar preparations in progress:
You thought I was making up the Banderas and Santana bit, didn't you?
TEH CATE!
Chris Rock and Carol Leifer hanging out in the audience seats. I remember Leifer's stand-up routines fondly, although I couldn't quote any of them to save my life.
Adam Duritz's hair makes me sad.
Producer: "In conclusion, Cates says TALK FASTERRRRR." Rock: "I am TRYING to play Metal Gear Solid 3, do you MIND?"
Oh dear, it looks like Andrew Lloyd Webber will be accompanying Beyonce on piano. Read that sentence one more time and tell me where you start to find problems.
Jake Gyllenhaal's lack of hair makes me even sadder.
I don't like Scarlett Johansson, for some reason. I thought I would just take a moment here and reveal my bias, thanks.
"Great, great, thanks. I'm going to kill you all in your sleep, rat bastards."
"So the winner's just Sideways for practice, right?"
What the hell is P. Diddy presenting? And how funny is it going to be to hear the Oscar announcer say his name?
God bless Jeremy Irons--and I do love him--but he just looks more cadaverous by the year, doesn't he?
Renée, hon, the dark hair better be for some movie. Because seriously, I say this every time I see you, and nothing is changing: brunette is not you.
Halle's hair, however, is very cute.
Leeeeeeeeeo!
They're so doing it.
LEEEEEEEEEEEEEEO!
Well, aren't we just butch?
HEY! You're not Laura Linney!
Re: POTO dolls: I did a little investigating on eBay, and the weird thing is that I didn't see any made-over dolls--there's a brisk trade in "reborn" Genes and Tylers and so on (example: one of my favorite repaint artists), particularly Arwens and Padmés as far as movies go, so you'd think there would be some Christine dolls. Maybe it's too soon--maybe doll artists are still trying to figure out how to get the costumes right, for one thing. Anyway, the only officially licensed dolls I was able to find are from the '80s--specifically, the stage show. Mattel steps up to the plate with, once again, a fairly horrifying Barbie-and-Ken set. I've never heard of Enesco, but they don't need no stinkin' Christine. And finally, the set that is most clearly tied to the show, the creepy Sarah Brightman mirror scene doll (with a strangely effeminate Phantom) from the Franklin Mint. Yeah. I'll take a pass, thanks.
(I have a really icky presentiment that Mattel is going to pop up again and give POTO the Arwen-and-Aragorn treatment. As the owner of Galadriel Barbie, I have to say: if this possible Christine is at all good, I will be forced to buy it, and I will be stuck with awful Phantom Ken, and it will be very, very sad.
Now that I think about it, I should probably try to buy the A&A set, keep the Arwen, boot the Aragorn, and give Eowyn Doll his stuff.)
(Eowyn Doll, peering down from my desk shelf: "DOOOOOO EEEEEEEET.")

You Are 30% Left Brained, 70% Right Brained |
The left side of your brain controls verbal ability, attention to detail, and reasoning. Left brained people are good at communication and persuading others. If you're left brained, you are likely good at math and logic. Your left brain prefers dogs, reading, and quiet. The right side of your brain is all about creativity and flexibility. Daring and intuitive, right brained people see the world in their unique way. If you're right brained, you likely have a talent for creative writing and art. Your right brain prefers day dreaming, philosophy, and sports. |

Date: 2005-02-27 07:48 pm (UTC)Scarlett Johannson doesn't bother me so much as the fact that they have her presenting from the balcony. Between that, the let's-present-from-the-aisle, and the let's-get-all-the-nominees-on-stage ... oh, Gil Caaaaaates? *whacks Cates upside the head with a frozen trout*

Date: 2005-02-27 08:24 pm (UTC)I am also not feeling that much Emmy Rossum love either. I thought she was quite good as Christine in POTO but since she only displayed two facial expressions (turned on and confused), I didn't think she deserved all the slobbering over her.
Started feeling that maybe I was just an old cranky jealous b*tch but I love Natalie Portman and mucho love for Kate and Cate and a bunch of other young actresses who bring the pretteh ....

I liiike Scarlett Johansson. Jake Gyllenhaal needs to lay off the scissors, stat.

Date: 2005-02-27 11:09 pm (UTC)Its basically a company in the line of Russ and Department 56 that makes junk thats sold at places like Hallmark Store (where I am employed) that you would only buy if you stop at the store on your way to the party or are already late with giving the presents. They make Precious Moments figurines.
....I have rather strong feelings about this, in case you can't tell.

There's too much funny here for me to comment on at once (and I had to spend THREE HOURS wresting with my computer to get it to go online tonight SMASH! SMASH!) but that made me spit, I laughed so hard.
(Still over-identifying with Eowyn Doll, clearly.)

Date: 2005-02-28 03:59 am (UTC)Renee REALLY doesn't look good as a brunette.
And if Orlando is sleeping with Kirsten, it will make me very sad.
Also? WOW that doll artist is awesome.
