Lohan's Dad Caught Up in Death Threat Scandal
Lindsay Lohan's mother and siblings have rushed to join the actress on the set of her new movie in New Orleans, Louisiana, after newspaper reports her father wants to kill them. Just days after Michael Lohan was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving, gossips in New York claim he told a security guard he was planning to kill his estranged wife Dina and their kids. Reporters claim the allegations against Lohan can be found in divorce papers filed by his wife. In the leaked papers, Dina Lohan claims her husband told a security guard he was planning to kill her and get away with it, stating, "OJ has nothing on me... I know exactly how I'm going to kill (them). I know when I'm going to do it and I'm going to enjoy it." But Lohan's representatives insist the latest family scandal has failed to upset the teenager. One spokeswoman says, "Lindsay's in a good space. She's keeping busy."
Good to know.

Spotted by [livejournal.com profile] spectralbovine: "What about second flashbacks?" ETA: give [livejournal.com profile] batyatoon her props here.

My Oscar predictions:

1. The show is going to suck as no Oscar show has ever sucked before, and it will be a fabulous trainwreck.

2. The whole Gangs of New York campaign where Miramax tried to strong-arm Hollywood into finally giving Scorsese an Oscar not only failed, but killed any desire to give Scorsese anything. It's still a tight race, but word on the street is that Million Dollar Baby is going to win. Hell, Eastwood will probably win for director, too.

3. Annette Bening might win for Best Actress, because--well, look who she's married to. But it could likely be Hilary Swank for Million Dollar Baby, and while she probably deserves it, we will still be plunged into a world where Hilary Swank has two Oscars and Kate Winslet has none.

4. Jamie Foxx will win Best Actor. Failing that, Chris Rock will burn the Kodak Theater down. You laugh, but he's the one who said it, not me.

5. Cate Blanchett will win Best Supporting Actress, or I will go burn the Kodak down. You laugh, but I have lighter fluid.

6. Best Supporting Actor: Morgan Freeman won the SAG. Clive Owen won the Golden Globe. I have no idea. I would like to see Clive Owen win, but if he loses, we will be plunged into a world where Morgan Freeman has two Oscars, and... I can totally live with that. ETA: Dammit! I am so off my game this year! Freeman has never won an Oscar--I was totally thinking he won an Oscar for Glory, but that was Denzel Washington, which I knew! Like apparently I was imagining some alternate universe where they could both win the same award for the same movie. Dammit. Clive so doesn't have a chance.

7. My personal, highly biased, completely unqualified-to-talk-because-I-didn't-see-all-the-movies wish list: The Aviator, Scorsese (God! Just give it to him so they can just shut up about it!), Foxx (I didn't see Ray, but... I don't like riots in the street, man. Failing him? DiCaprio), Winslet, Owen, Blanchett. And lots of love for Lemony Snicket prettiness. And maybe toss a set decorating trophy to Phantom or something. I dunno.

And it is doubly wrong when neither Kate Winslet nor Cate Blanchett has one. WHY THE CATEHATE, OSCAR?

I love Kate Winselt to death, but home ties require that I support Hilary Swank. Even if she has won before. But if you need any help burning down the Kodak, I know some pyros who'd be more than willing to join in...

Hm...interesting predicitons...and remember to dress in non-flammable items :D

I was thinking that they'd screw Eastwood over for best movie because of the controversy but give him best director in some recognition and do the opposite for Scorsese.

I also concur on Clive/Morgan

That second flashbacks thing is genius.

And I think you're probably spot on with all your predictions. Unfortunately. As Kate Winslet really deserves to win. And it's be so nice to see Johnny get something but it seems he couldn't give a tiny rat's ass really. And if he's on stage? That'll be a fun thing to see.

i feel kinda stupid becasue i didnt quite understand the second flashback thing....

Have you seen Fellowship of the Ring? Remember the scene where they're hiking from Bree and Merry and Pippin want to stop for breakfast and Aragorn says they've already had breakfast and they say...? That? If you haven't seen Fellowship then it won't make any sense, but it comes from that. :D

I didn't like Million Dollar Baby, so I am rooting for anything but it. Out of the three Oscar-nominated films I've seen, I think I liked Sideways best. I'm not very Oscarish, though. I just want Kaufman to win something, dammit. I don't even know if he was nominated, but I want him to win!

From: [identity profile] spectralbovine.livejournal.com
He's nominated for the Eternal Sunshine script, and if he doesn't win, I will burn the theater down. Burn it to ashes, and then burn the ashes.

If Chris Rock or Cleo has beaten me to the burning to ashes part, I'll just burn the ashes.

"1. The show is going to suck as no Oscar show has ever sucked before, and it will be a fabulous trainwreck. "

Oh, please. That would be so entertaining ..... I want to see confused people running around trying to hand out awards to pissed off people in the audience. I want to see Chris Rock have a "WTF am I doing here?" moment. I want Scarlett Johansson and Emmy Rossum ("Ralph Lauren and I COLLABORATED on this gown") to get into a hair pulling snit. I want Annette Benning and Barbara Streisand to snub each other. I want Clive Owen and Kate Winslet to give Gil Cates the finger and then saunter outside for a smoke. Is that too much to ask?

The second flashbacks thing is beautiful. I didn't know how they were going to handle the rest of the dialogue...then realized that all of those things had happened! Heee!

On another note, does Morgan Freeman even have a first Oscar? I was under the impression he didn't. I wouldn't mind seeing him win one, even though I haven't seen the movie. (Hell, haven't seen ANY of the movies. Yay grad school!)

Prisoner of Azkaban has got to win Best Score. IMO, it's one of John Williams' top ten of his whole career.

And considering he does Star Wars, all the Spielberg films, plus tons more, that's saying a lot.

And yes, it is going to suck. It was great last year, but this year... bleargh. At least I get to watch other people whine, and laugh. (I'm working the Oscars shift at my movie theater -- we screen it live via satellite in the digital theater and cater it. I just get to stand around and look pretty while watching the Oscars, and get paid to do it. Win-win, baby!)

P.S. That "second flashbacks" thing is HILARIOUS.

I heard on the radio today that this nomination was John Williams' 43rd. WOW. Really, just WOW. I don't know if it's accurate, but...

I have a unhappy feeling Million Dollar Baby will win too many Oscars, taking them away from Kaufman and Payne. And, unfortunately, I agree when you say that Clint Eastwood will win best director.

Morgan Freeman will probably and should win an Oscar.

I'm 100% certain Jamie Foxx will win too. Mroe than 100%.

Kate Winslet SHOULD win. But WILL she? My bet is on Hilary Swank, but I wish I could say I had the feeling Kate will win.

Office politics dictate I root for The Aviator over Million Dollar Baby I work with OTs. A couple used to work in film and have encountered Clint. To say they aren't happy with him or this film is the equivalent of stating that vampires are a little reluctant to try garlic.

Besides, what the hell. I love Alan Alda and Cate Blanchett. I'm also rooting for Kate Winslet, who I didn't know was nominated.

Ditto on Morgan Freeman possibly winning and . . . geez, where do you come up with all this? You're hilarious. I'd kill to be half this witty so consistently.

I REALLY hope Alex Byrne wins the costume Oscar for Finding Neverland, because it would be so amazing to see her up on the stage in OUR SKIRT! But everyone in the know reckons that Colleen Atwood is going to win for Lemony Snicket.

Oh, and additional gossip - All the costume designers very nearly boycotted the Oscars, because the Academy had them booked on Economy flights from Europe to the East Coast of the US! Harsh. Needless to say, none of the actors or directors had Economy tickets. So they all made a huge fuss, and were rewarded with Club Class. Teh Drama!

Nah -- Swank will win Best Actress (playing against type, weepy tragic ending), Foxx will most likely win Best Actor, although there is a little backlash brewing against him and it could go to Eastwood (whom the Academy loves) or DiCaprio (who is a very respectful boy), both in an Adrien Brody-like upset. It's a long shot, but possible.

Best Supporting Actor is totally up for grabs, although I'd say Owen has a slight edge, unless they give it to Haden Church in the one acting nod to "Sideways" or to Freeman as his "here is your Oscar for your distinguished body of work, oh venerated black man" prize. Best Supporting Actress might go to Blanchett, but she's not a Hollywood favorite (too much of an outsider), so my money's on Portman because everyone adores her, or Madsen if Haden Church doesn't get it.

Best Director? No contest: Clint, and poor Martin will be left holding his dick once again, as they say. Poor guy. Best Picture? A toss-up: Million Dollar Baby or The Aviator -- no other movie has the same buzz or backing.

I think Alexander Payne might well get the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay, they might throw Charlie Kaufman a bone for "Eternal Sunshine" for Original Screenplay, and I think "Mar Adentro" will win Best Foreign Film. But of course no one in Hollywood gives a damn about any of them, so big woo.

You think Roadkill Candy is bad?

Last week I was in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History Gems & Minerals Gift Shop (home of the $70 Hematite bookends, which I now own)...

and they had boxes of amber candy, with crickets and centipedes imbedded inside.

and [livejournal.com profile] milestogo13 said, "Are those real bugs?"

and I said, "Oh, no, I'm sure they..."

*turns package over*

"ARE."

A couple of minutes after that, this little kid tugged on his mom's shirt and said, "Look, mom, isn't this candy cool?"

Yeah, I bet when he bites into it he won't think so.

P.S. I can't see the second flashbacks thing! *cries*
