Oh, I forgot to tell y'all what Vladimir sent me--it was supposed to be for Valentine's: Stanley Donen's autograph (from which film festival, I forget), and a signed copy of Captain Corelli's Mandolin, which I greatly look forward to reading now. (Fortunately I haven't seen the movie, which I hear was pretty underwhelming.)

Here's the thing: It didn't arrive on Valentine's Day. But it did arrive exactly three years to the day I received Vladimir's first email, written to the webmistress of a movie news site he liked. Awww.

Cute!
Did I tell you what my boyfriend gave me yesterday belatedly for valentine's day besides asking me out and becoming my boyfriend?

No! But I did see the asking-of-the-out and becoming-of-the-boyfriend entry. Yay! : )

I'm not a huge japanaphile, but he is, and i gave him starbucks stuff and chocolate, so it's like we sort of shared our interests in gifts. It was fun!

Awww. :)

The movie was extremely underwhelming but the book is wonderful. Hilarious and heartbreaking, all at once. I just read his latest novel, Birds Without Wings, about a month ago and highly recommend that too.

Don't feel dumb. We're not sure either. But I guess we're enough of one that there's something to not be sure about.

I'm with Cleo, don't feel dumb. I was wondering the same thing, I'm glad you asked.

I just want to say that that is really cute.

Hee. That's cool. I guess it'd be kind of difficult to be, what with him in Croatia and all.

Sounds like you two are practically an item :
you have pet names,
you send each other presents (each others' swords!),
and you even have an anniversary of when you first met online, ok first corresponded then.
In conclusion, practically an item.

It would be like a romantic comedy if only fate can get you two together :)

Kitty!

To refresh your memory --

Stanley signed your autograph at the Venice Film Festival. He is unbelievably vital and funny and charismatic for a man who directed SINGIN' IN THE RAIN OMG. And he asked me three times how to spell "Lauren", bless his heart, and I finally gave up and said, "Just like Bacall".

And the book is, of course, signed by Louis de Bernieres. Who's v. hobbity.

*hugs you muchly*

Nicholas (Nicolas?) Cage's accent was the shittiest Italian accent I've ever heard, in that movie. But the rest of it was beautiful. The cinematography and the script were gorgeous, imho. Never read the book, so maybe that's why I hold it in such high estimation.

Which is particularly sad given that he's a Coppola.

So serious. It was horrible. One of my Italian friends didn't make it halfway through the movie before flipping the switch, disgusted.

Yeah. Captain Corelli's Mandolin? Sucks. Christian Bale is the only redeeming factor (well, and John Hurt, he's cool). But if you want to hear Nicolas Cage talk like he got his Italian accent from Super Mario Brothers, go to it!

Also: Aww.
