Jan. 16th, 2005 10:08 pmWhoa, Sylvester Stallone. The hell? Everyone in the audience is like, "The fuck?" "Let's talk about Clint Eastwood!" Ohhh, I get it. Stallone's all "jealous" of Clint's boxing movie. Stallone is so what Matt LeBlanc is going to grow up to be like, by the way.
Here's Goldie Hawn. Eh. Best musical/comedy. Gooooooooo Eternal Sunshine! Oh, shit, I did that wrong, didn't I? Sideways takes it. Dammit. Very nice dresses on the actresses, though. Also, the guy accepting stands there with his hand in his jacket pocket for like a minute, and he totally looks like Napoleon. Heh. Finding yourself, protecting the vision, heart in every frame, etc.
Sigh. I hope Clint Eastwood is prepared to get up again.
Here's Nicole! Nicole, I love you! Maybe not as much as I used to, due to your overuse of Bo--what the shit are you WEARING? Huh. On second glance, the peacock shoulder-feather is kind of swank. Nice. And... The Aviator wins! Yay! We're still in the game! Although I have nothing to do with it, and technically I thought it was just a pretty good movie and it didn't change my life or anything! But come on! Everybody's gotta have a team to root for. The guy accepting says something about "a brilliantly originable script." Dubya? Is that you? Woot! Shoutout for Her Cateness! Seriously, I may never forgive Annette Bening for this. I still haven't forgiven Gwyneth Paltrow for running off with her Elizabeth Oscar, and that was something like six years ago. Ah, well. Cate got the last laugh. She's over here working with Martin Scorsese and Peter Jackson and Wes Anderson, and Gwyneth Paltrow's in, like, View from the Top. Oh, and Sylvia. Wasn't that supposed to be her big awards comeback? HA HA.
Yeah, I get way bitter about this stuff. You haven't even seen me get het up about the Oscars proper yet.

Date: 2005-01-17 04:12 am (UTC)And I can't wait. I'm going to try to see Sideways next weekend, since it looks to be stealing all of Eternal Sunshine's awards.
I do want to see The Aviator, but I can't get behind Million Dollar Baby. For one, I have yet to see any of Clint Eastwood's superultrabrilliant movies. For two, that is the stupidest title ever. Okay, no. The stupidest title ever would be Million Dollar Baby Geniuses.

But I have to say...Ok, I loved Buffy. To pieces. That show was the shiznit. But, "cancelled before its time?" No. Sadly, that show jumped the shark...aw hell, took a crazed flying leap over said shark...after the whole "death of Buffy" thing. It still had some awesome moments going for it at the end, but it was time for it to be put down. I'm only glad it went peacefully to its grave while it was still in semi-loveliness, instead of clinging to life desperately at it all turned to crap.

Date: 2005-01-17 04:42 am (UTC)And Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. Yet another crappy movie. Proof was supposed to come out in December and was supposed to be her next big awards comeback, but Miramax pushed it back. HA! I'm also quite bitter about her winning for Shakespeare in Love. Seriously! That over Cate in Elizabeth?
*is still pissed about that*

Date: 2005-01-17 05:16 am (UTC)Naomi Watts being introduced as the star of The Ring 2. Man, even the Hollywood Foreign Press is a little miffed Peter Jackson's follow-up to Lord of the Rings is a King Kong remake.
Howard Shore wins for The Aviator. If he wins the Oscar later this year, he'll be able to build his own Awards fort. And maybe throw some of them at John Williams.
Sylvester Stallone introducing. Is it me, or is every Globe ceremony required to have some looney has been who probably never should have been an "is" presenting one of the big awards.
Alfie technically wins an award. Yeah, I know it was the legendary Mick Jagger who won, but I don't know, this is why I don't like the "best song" category. It leads to things like Charlie's Angels and Kate and Leopold technically being able to count use the "nominated" brand on the posters and stuff.

Date: 2005-01-17 09:32 am (UTC)I'm still bitter about Tom Hanks running off with Liam Neeson's Schindler's List Oscar back in 1993, so yeah I get it. I'm also really fucking pissed at Fox Searchlight for putting all their clout behind Sideways and not Kinsey.
But Liam probably doesn't care because he sure looks like he was
toking uphanging out with Dustin Hoffman before the ceremony. I mean man, but he was incredibly inarticulate on the carpet and about as deadpan as Depp all night.no subject

Is that still in theaters? How long did it last? For that matter, how about Kinsey? Didn't a ton of those really earnest "serious" Oscar-contender-type movies just vanish without a trace this year? Even more so than usual?

Date: 2005-01-18 03:21 am (UTC)I was 22 when I was first published, and I wish I'd have had half your balance and sanity. It would've saved me a lot of false starts and sorrow. Reading your stuff gives me a warm feeling, because I think you have a fine career ahead of you -- and not only that, you'll be able to handle it. It's nice. Thanks for sharing.

Date: 2005-01-18 03:29 am (UTC)Also: awww, thanks. I did throw a minor temper tantrum over some internet plagiarism several months back, but... I'm going to take "you can handle it" as a great compliment, because I've been trying to handle it well, or gracefully, or however you want to put it, and I'd like to think that I have, but it hasn't always been easy.
(And now I want to know what you've published. : )

Date: 2005-01-23 08:37 pm (UTC)Since I didn't know beforehand that you once again real-time-commented the Globes, I opted to record them and watched them this weekend and read your comments at the same time. The Globes (drunk, drunk, stoned, sober, drunk, ...), as always, lots of fun.
Pre-show interviewer: "What was it like to perform in PotO?"
MinnieDriver *blank stare of doom*: "You know what, I sing the song at the end of the movie, I didn't sing in the movie."
Priceless.
Though not as much fun as last year's awards events with the live tag-board. But I look forward to your LJ-comments of the Oscars.
I still hope that you will sometime revive the dailydigest. Maybe when you've finished your book. Best of luck.

Date: 2005-01-24 01:14 am (UTC)I'm absolutely heartsick that the Digest has been down this long. Even so, real-time recapping is really easy through LJ, so I'm going to keep doing it in hopes that it'll eventually augment the resurrected Digest. : )
