Wow, it's the elusive Orlando Bloom. And he's here, Enunciating Very Loudly!, to present the Aviator clip, despite having... absolutely no link to the movie I can see. Oh, wait! It's elves sticking together, that's what. Oh! And Ian Holm was in it, too! And Howard Shore did the score! Whoa, I didn't realize the movie was actually, like, a stealth LOTR reunion.

Here's Charlize Theron, also gone over to the Dark Side, but I suppose it's for Aeon Flux, so we can forgive her. (Except that Aeon Flux looks pretty bad. SHAME!). Best actor. JOHNNY! JOHNNY I LOVE YOU JOHNNY! Charlize dances around in her dress. You know, the boob dance. Leo wins. Okay, he really was good, I give him that. Leo is very calm and articulate. I wonder if he was expecting this? Well, they'll toss all y'all into the Oscars together, drama and comedy and all, so enjoy this moment, because it ain't comin' around again. Also, he thanks Scorsese. Poor Martin Scorsese. He looks completely and totally used to losing by now. Also, Leo shares the award with his loving and supportive... parents (whither Gisele?) and gives a tsunami shout-out. Respect.

Ah, the Phantom commercial again. I am still sad going to see it again didn't pan out. If it were a food, it'd be, like, caramel corn. For real.

Here's Patricia Arquette from Medium, which a couple of y'all told me was shite, so...woe, Patricia Arquette, and Michael Imperioli. Best TV comedy: probably a dead heat between Arrested Development and Desperate Housewives, knowing these people. Yeah, it's Desperate. Whoa! Entourage was nominated? The Lovely Emily and I watched, like, four episodes of that before we finally just got sick of its utter pointlessness. "I'm Mark Cherry, the creator of Desperate Housewives--" and this giant shriek goes up from one of the actresses, I think? Wow. My dog looks at me and says, "I'm not even translating that." Also: "My mom supported me financially, but she did something even better: she gave me the idea for a hit TV show. Now that's good parenting." Dude! I want to meet your mom!

Here's Kate Hudson. Feh. Apparently Sideways is the most nominated movie of the evening. Hmm. Well, the clip makes it look more interesting than I'd thought.

Here's a very mellow tired Dustin Hoffman with the actress/drama nominees. Hilary Swank? I'll go with her. She gets a huge cheer. Well, so does Uma. Hmmm. And Swank takes it. Well, don't act so surprised--you saw the Eastwood win. I am really starting to think that Million Dollar Baby is the movie to beat this year. It's like people have just given up trying to get Scorsese an Oscar. I sort of faded out here reading the Globes spam comments from y'all, but apparently Hilary is very happy and together and having a good time with her speech. You know, it must be awesome to be someone like Hilary Swank--young, already got an Oscar, career didn't roll over and die, can pretty much do whatever she wants now. She's got nothing left to prove, you know? (Oh God, is she still married? PLEASE thank your husband, Hilary. Don't forget AGAIN. Ah, there she goes.)

What are we down to now, best picture?

First comment!!!

I'm glad you're doing this since I don't have time to watch the Globes this year. :-D

Thank you. I hate yours. But that's just because I have an irrational fear of penguins.

That's got to be one of the top five funniest things I've read tonight--And I've been following Cleo, so that's saying something.

Oh this is so much fun! The awards FINALLY came on out here in mountain time zone, so I'm reading your recaps so I know what to expect. We're only an hour behind.

It's delightful! (Although not delovely. Just sayin')

Goddamnit. Eternal Sunshine has gotten the total shaft. I haven't seen Sideways or Closer, but you won't ever convince me that they're more original or interesting or well-acted or challenging than Eternal Sunshine.

Sideways was really good, but I think Eternal Sunshine got shafted, too.

I wanna hug Charlie Kaufman. Not as much as poor Johnny or Robin Williams's kids, but a hug nonetheless. I think it was his absolute best work yet.

Does it have any Oscar noms? Or have those been announced yet? *doesn't keep up with film stuff*

No, the Oscar noms get announced on the 25th. Trust me, the morning it does, you'll hear me squealing. ;)

They haven't been officially listed yet, but I think I remember hearing somewhere that it had been nominated for something.

That movie needs to win something. It was pretty underrated, if you ask me.

Sideways was great. As long as you don't go into it thinking OMG BIG AWARD WINNER, it's lovely. Otherwise, it'd probably be a letdown. (It's really sweet, but nice and subtle, so yeah. Good movie.)

I thought of one!!!

Why does the Aviator emblem look like something from Marvel Comics? Is there supposed to be like. AviatorMan! or something?

Kate Hudson is that woman that I always think is in a movie, but then it turns out she isn't.

I'm starting to think that I don't want to see Desperate Housewives, because it's stealing all these awards from shows that I like.

I've found one good thing about the show:
If I leave it on ABC, Boston Legal directly follows it. Therefore, I don't miss any Shatner or Spader!

Try it once at least for Marcia Cross. I'm not mad about Teri Hatcher winning the award, but Marcia Cross is playing one of the best characters on TV right now. It is cheesy and stupid, but since it's a soap opera, that's kind of the point. :)

I love Charlize Theron's hair any which way but dark. I've heard nothing about Aeon Flux, but chances are I won't see it. I'll wait for the m15m edition.

I noticed he (Orlando) was Enunciating Very Loudly! as well. Which is funny, because he's usually softy poshypants boy, even onstage. Another thing that jumped out at me was his accent. It's sort of fading. I heard several pronounced 'Rs' in his little deal.

And. He no longer looks like the poster boy for anorexia nervosa.

Cleo, your commentary is so much better than actually having to watch! And way better than finding out the bitter news from the morning shows! Thank you!

Leo is weird-looking and there is something about him I don't like. Am very irritated about the 'Sideways' bandwagon rolling over ESOTSM. Martin Scorsese should move to France. And 'Lost' losing to...whatever? It's just wrong. Soooo glad I read your recaps instead of watching!

Speaking of stealth LOTR reunion, there's a new Orlando movie called Kingdom of Heaven....yea....
