Whee! Spent about two hours out on the street last night talking to one of my best friends from high school--I haven't seen her in at least a year, maybe two, but she was randomly home this weekend and her parents live at the top of my street. She and her dad were out walking their new beagle mix, and my mom was out walking the dogses, so she ran in and got me and we stood out there and yay! Also, Ann informs me that she has acquired the nickname "The Jam," and I think I have convinced her to get a journal, so The Jam may come out to play with us soon.

Off to class and more cultural-studies blather. Yar. However, it has gotten nice and frosty and I get to wear my Ravenclaw scarf. Yay! Also: Eventually I will get sick of this icon, but I don't foresee it happening any time soon.

Well, she's a TA, and on her teaching evaluation, one of her students wrote, "Ann [Surname] is the jam."

Yeah. She doesn't know either. But her friends loved it and now introduce her as "Ann, The Jam."

Beagles and beagle mixes are the best dogs EVAH!

And *I* will never get sick of that icon. At least not until I see Phantom a few more times.

I kind of don't get it, which makes me sad, since everyone thinks it's hilarious. Could you explain it to me?

What, "The Jam"? (http://www.livejournal.com/users/cleolinda/222552.html?thread=5443672#t5443672) That's pretty much the whole story in that link right there.

No, sorry. The whole "Daddy love you, Christine!" thing.

Cleo can do a better job, but basically, Christine originally thinks the "angel of music" that's been giving her voice lessons is her dead father. In teh book, christine is smart and realizes it's just some creepy guy who lives in the basement early on. In the movie she's a little slow, so when she goes to her father's grave the phantom is waiting for her. She doesn't expressly state that she thinks it's her dad, but she's curious, and Raoul runs up to "rescue" her, saying, "This monster isn't your father!" or something to that effect.

Ohhhhh... that. Yeah, what she said.

What really makes it funny is that she's very young and impressionable and this masked guy shows up and he's all "I am the Angel of Music your father sent who may or may not be your father's actual ghost," okay, so then they go down and sing "Music of the Night" and totally grope each other and she takes off his mask and he throws a hissy and it should be ABUNDANTLY CLEAR that this is just some guy, and moreover, a guy who wants to get with her pretty bad. So. Cemetery. She hears him singing from inside her father's tomb. Now, she KNOWS this guy. She KNOWS HIS VOICE, because that's supposedly what's so enchanting (that, and he's frickin' hot). But she's all like, "Daddy? Is that you?" Yeah. That's why Raoul is like, "DUH, NO IT'S NOT," and why I had the Phantom say in the parody, "Yes I am! I'm totally her dad! Daddy loves you, Christine!"

WAH!

::mumble mumble grumble:: Yeah, see, when it's a little frosty down there for you, it's like 15F with a killer windchill up here in northern ohio. ::sigh:: It's soooooooooo cold, and it's only gonna get worse.

Thankfully it hasn't been THAT cold here since the first three weeks of December... but we're still burried under 6-8 feet of snow! So I've been wearing *my* 'Ravenclaw' (grey/blue, meh), and the fabulous scarf I made myself since... November I want hot cocoa! Speaking of which-where/what was that cool cocoa you have and are raving about? Do you think it would work in soy milk?

Date: 2005-01-14 09:57 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com
Well, I had three kinds total--Williams & Sonoma's peppermint hot chocolate; mcstevens.com's Rudolph cocoa; and Nestle hot chocolate in a red box from the grocery store that I like best of all. I've never had soy milk, so I couldn't really tell if you if it'd work or not, but I've been using 1% or 2% milk--whatever we've got.

Ravenclaw? Man, I had you down as a Gryffindor!

Hee. Why Gryffindor? When I was sorted, I got mostly Ravenclaw and some Hufflepuff votes.

Heh. I really wanted in to Slytherin. When the 5th sorting engine, including the totally random one, sorted me into Ravenclaw, I gave up and accepted my fate. So, er, greetings fellow Ravenclaw!
And Ravenclaw scarves can be found where?

alivans.com has really nice blue and grey scarves, but there's another site where people will knit you really beautiful HP scarves (in the correct colors)--I can't think what it is at the moment.
