Taking a break from Attack of the Clones to eat a sandwich, so here's an entry while I chew:

I metaquoted Teh Snack today. You must read it. It involves a bag of margaritas.

I haven't read the first installment of [livejournal.com profile] yuki_onna's serial, but I'm hoping I'll have time after class tomorrow. It's $10 for a six-month subscription, which goes to help move her dog Sage when she and her husband leave Japan (the alternative is to leaf the doggeh, as Carlotta might say, behind). She's a great writer, and 10% of it is also going to tsunami relief, so give it a try.

Also, if you haven't friended/joined [livejournal.com profile] m15m, keep an eye out there--I'm going to do a round-up post of Phantom/Phantom in 15 miscellany. Oh, and I keep trying to sing along to the soundtrack, and I'll get to one of Christine's parts with the really, really high notes ("Thanks, that narrows it down"), and I'm telling you, nothing but air comes out. I'll be trying, and it's just this silent whoosh. Man, I suck. (Sadly? I can sing the Phantom's part. Movie!Phantom, anyway. Bless.) I've also been practicing my French accent in hopes of being able to record some of the parody as an experiment, once 1) I have the time and 2) my throat isn't sore, which is kind of putting a dent in things. Although I think I have Madame Giry's spiel about rescuing Erik ("With a c or with a k?") down pretty well.

And while I'm at it, here's the movie quotes meme everyone's been doing:

1. Pick one dozen movies that are ones that you have special feelings about.
2. Pick a few lines of dialogue that mean something to you.
3. As people guess the film, strike out that entry.
4. If possible, after the film is guessed, explain why that movie made the list.

1, You're passing up a swell chance, honey. Where I spit no grass grows EVER.

2. A woman should never learn to sew, and if she can she shouldn't admit to it.

3. Last week he wanted to marry her. Now he wants to have her committed.

4. I will have one mistress here... and no master.

5. But he has made many sacrifices for his family, and put away many dreams. [...] He put them in a drawer. And sometimes, late at night, we take them out and admire them. But it gets harder and harder to close the drawer... and he does. And that is why he is brave.

6. Please tell me you're not one of Toulouse's oh so talented, charmingly bohemian, tragically impoverished writers?

7. What care I for colds when there is such a man!

8. Is it true what they say? That he's some kind of vampire?

9. I think the greatest harm done the human race has been done by the poets. [...] They expect kisses to be like lyrical poems and embraces to be like Shakespearean dramas.

10. I think if you're going to kill somebody, kill them, don't stand around talking about it.

11. I will speak for you, Father. I speak for all mediocrities in the world. I am their champion. I am their patron saint.

12. I wish the wolves had eaten you! Then maybe I could've found a real husband.

You don't suck, the notes are just above the staff. Plus, onstage, they're whispering into microphones hidden in their wig.

This is why I don't go to musicals any more. I hate the speaker side broadcast of characters in front of me.

Darn it!! I know #3 & 5...I just can't remember.

Okay, ones I do remember:

#6: Moulin Rouge (Satine's line, I believe)
#7: Sense and Sensibility (Marianne's line, followed by Eleanor reminding her that she will care when her nose swells up and Marianne agreeing...cute scene)

Is #8 Interview with a Vampire? When the slaves are wondering about Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise.

::facepalm:: I can't believe I know all these. I need to stop watching movies.

1. Having just watched Beatlejuice the other day, this sounds an awful lot like something he would say. But I think I'm going to have to put in my guess as The Women.
2. The English Patient
3. Hahaha Dracula!
4. Elizabeth I watched that movie cuz you mentioned something about it and ooo was it good!
5. Peter Pan.
6. Moulin Rouge
7. Sense & Sensibility
8. Silence of the Lambs!
9. Spellbound. I love that movie.
10. Van Helsing
11. Amadeus
12. Princess Mononoke (although, admittedly, the only reason I know that one is cuz my best friend quotes various lines from it to me all the bleedin time)

"Is that with a 'c' or a 'k'?"
"Well, my name is spelled with a k, so I thought... C! Some sort of trippy, psychadelic type thing."
"Always mess with their minds."

That is so not totally correct, but. Mark. I heart him.

#4 is Elizabeth, with the incomparable Cate Blanchett.

Was "The Opposite Sex" a remake of "The Women" at all? Because I seem to recall it being connected somehow, and if so, you're right. The Norma Shearer version is the one I've seen.

I can't hit the high notes either--my voice just disappears too. Sadly (or not so sadly), I have all of Raoul's parts down pat and in tune. High soprano is just unreachable for me.

From: [identity profile] tabbyclaw.livejournal.com
Heh. I've actually been known to compare other situations to "the sudden, painful frustration of getting really into singing along with The Phantom of the Opera and being forcibly reminded that you're not a soprano." I think it may be part of the reason "Into the Woods" captured my heart so quickly: I can actually sing the lead role in that one.
