The following is an entry I apparently drafted before I took my cold medicine, stumbled back to bed, and went into a coma for about six hours:

Heeeeeeeeeeeee. I got up (throaaaat hurrrrrrts) and checked my email this morning, and found this:

From: Ginger [my agent]

Subject: Stop freaking out

If it's a few days late, it's a few days late. Nothing is going to happen to you--[Orion] can't cancel the contract for it being just a few days late. OK? This is not grad school. It's publishing. We basically close in August. Don't worry.

I'm sure I'm going to continue to freak out, because that's the Cleolinda way, but I finally cracked one of the last Matrix scene holdouts while I was making breakfast. I don't know why I usually think of good things while I'm making breakfast, but it involves pacing around the kitchen while whatever cooks in the microwave--it's something about standing there waiting on the microwave. Using the bathtub or the shower for inspiration, I understand, the but microwave thing puzzles me. Maybe it's the micro-waves themselves.

The following is actually being written at the present moment:

Blarrrrrg.

I just thought you should know that my best friend and I considered buying Troy just so that we could read your m15m and laugh at it all over again :o) Good luck! You can do it!

Ah inspiration. Clearly, you have a dedicated Muse of the Microwave - she's an individual :P I'm with [livejournal.com profile] law_witch - microwave more, stress less.

That reminds me of my College Communications teacher from last semester, who got her inspiration while making her bed or, um, spending time in the bathroom... not the kind of thing any of her students really wanted to know lol

Hope you feel better soon! Colds suck!

Hooray!

I was getting worried for you, too, but Ginger's e-mail has put my mind at ease. Good luck, Cleo; you're an amazingly cool person and writer, and we all have faith in you. 8-)

I think it's the hum of the microwave. Or perhaps the microwaves interfere with the Matrix! ;)

I get my ideas in the shower, when I just let my mind go blank.

Hey, thought occured to me, is The Last Samurai going to be included in the book, because I love that movie with all my heart but would love to see what you could do with it. Of course I wouldn't want to make more work for you and I love what you've already got pleasedontkeelmeiwanttoliveplzkthnx.

Nope--they're all planned out pretty tightly, from 1993-2003. Mainstream popcorn movies, for the most part, although I think something like half of them are also Best Pictures.

Okay, cool. I was just reading all the m15m's on the community for, like, the frazillionth time and the idea just occured to me, since I have a nice big promo pic from the movie up in my cube.

*reads the Fellowship snippet... reads Hidalgo in 15... smirks and mutters something about Aragorn making cracks about Hidalgo to his mini-Horse-lord-of-a-horse Brego*

We have a saying in Greek:

"To kalo pragma aryei na yinei", it basically means that all good things never happen on time.

Whilst your book be availableth in The Great White North upon publishment?

I have no idea, at this stage. Orion (in Britain) is in charge of everywhere but the US, and US rights haven't been sold yet.

I'd invest in that if I had money.

Just curious, but what does she mean by they basically close in August? I didn't understand that one.

Good Luck! Can't wait to read it!

Everyone takes long vacations, is all. They don't close, per se--it's just that no one's really... there.

Ok...so it's available in England...

You will post a link with order info won't you?
I can't wait!

Let me put it this way: I make money off every book sold. You know, royalties. As one does. So it would be in my best interest to see that everyone knew every possible way to obtain this book. You have nothing to worry about. : )

Ooh - the microwave thing. That works for me, too. I think it's something to do with standing there, knowing you don't have the time to go and start something else... so you're forced to remain where you are, with nothing for your brain to do. So it rebels, and starts thinking about things it's been putting off for ages.

Or I could be just completely wrong and rambling on about absolutely nothing. But the shower thing doesn't work for me. I take my cleaning very seriously. :)

Good luck with your writing. If Ginger says it'll be alright, then it'll be alright. Plus, we'll kill you if you don't get this book out. With penguins. (I'm probably joking about that bit...)

Don't freak out too much...you'll wear yourself out even more, and that's not what we want, is it? :D

And yeah, isn't breakfast just totally inspiring? I think so...

I get my ideas right before I go to sleep. I mean, I want to be sleeping, but the more I want to sleep, the more likely it is that, unless I'm dead exhausted, my brain will decide it's suddenly time to finally give me ideas I can actually do something with. RARGH. But the microwave works for me, too. I think it's because you're just standing there and there really isn't anything to do but think and listen to the hum and stare at the way the little glass plate inside rotates . . . In any case, I'm glad Ginger said that. I suspected it would be okay, but it's nice to have confirmation — even if I'm not the one who has to be doing the writing. Anyway, relax a bit, dear, and, um, microwave things. Make Easy Mac. With the neon orange powder "cheese."

Figured I'd send my own HUZZAH your way. Wish I could somehow give you an energy transplant since I'm all weird lately and cooking for like... the Trojan army. Seriously-my roommate is calling me Madame Domestica. SCARY! Don't worry, I bet you could write any author and they'd tell you what you heard from Ginger, "deadlines, schmedlines". BTW, I really think that you're destined for stardom with this book, funny feeling I get. My domestica sense is tingling.

I got loads of "Phantom of the Microwave" flashes suddenly, anyone else?

Breathe in, breathe out. Good girl.

Truth be told, I've missed the m15m. However, I agree with your microwave theory. I think it is either a.) because of the microwaves or b.) the pacing will do it, and silence, which is why people get such great ideas in the bathroom.

This is not my pimping, just to let you know, but I became part of a community [livejournal.com profile] 600seconds and I figured you might be interested. To be perfectly honest, as soon as I heard of it, I thought of you. Writing freely for ten minutes off a simple prompt may make your head stop exploding from Matrix...

... or the microwaves, either or.

I SO called it. You'll be fine. Just stand in front of the microwave a bit longer.

Dude, so with you on the sick thing. I'm finally fever-free after 48 hours of it, and back at work for the 1st time in 2005. But I'm still dead-man walking. Half the processors have looked at me and said, "Oh honey, you look TERRIBLE!"
Thanks. I did my hair and everything. Blah.
