Another this-and-that entry
Dec. 6th, 2004 09:13 pmGreetings. I bring you The Largest ROTK EE Pictures In the World. Download judiciously.
(Who finally has a White Arwen doll after three years of losing auctions? I DO, I DO!)
I just got (another) package in the mail, and while I don't know what it is because I can't find anything sharp to open it with, five bucks says it's the Hermione doll I ordered for Sister Girl. The part I wanted to mention, however, is that it's a very light package and the doll is not particularly fragile, and yet DO NOT CRUSH is written all over it in gigantic letters. Now, this seems fairly elementary to me. I wonder if neglecting to write "FRAGILE" or "HANDLE WITH CARE" on your package means that the delivery people go, "Oh, here's one we can put in the Smash Beyond Recognition pile. Woot!"
Trying to figure out what Vladimir got me for Christmas (he let "Fireside Collectibles" slip), I came upon this. The action figures scare me, but the coin necklace is quite a nice, affordable gift for the POTC fan in your life.
P.S. This is awesome but terrifyingly expensive. For that amount of money, I actually want Snow White's heart in the box, too.
You know, I was trying to figure out how to explain my one-song-at-a-time obsession to y'all, and it finally occurred to me that maybe "earworm" was the way to go. Except instead of going around with it in my head all day, I'm sitting at my stereo or mp3 player with this urgent NEED to keep that song in my head. It gets to the point where I feel this little twinge of agony if I think I'm ready to switch to another song, or I haven't listened to it in a while. I know this particular earworm is wearing itself out when I start feeling bored, or... I get obsessed with a different song. And sometimes I get obsessed with more than one at a time, which is really hard to juggle, because I spend the each song wishing I was listening to the other one. Hey, I never said I wasn't crazy.
Let's see, recent earworms...There was, of course, the period I was so stuck on "Where the Wild Roses Grow" that I was actually asking for other people to intervene and rescue me. Then it was the Dandy Warhols' "You Are the Last High." Then the Cardigans' "Erase/Rewind." Then Poe's "Haunted." Earlier this weekend? Siouxsie and the Banshees, "Kiss Them For Me." I am so random.
Right now it's U2's "So Cruel," which I always sort of liked on Achtung Baby, but more as a palate cleanser between songs I liked better ("Until the End of the World," "Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses," or, of course, "Mysterious Ways"), but Entertainment Weekly mentioned it in the last issue as one of the most underrated U2 songs ever, and I was like, "You know, they're totally right," and for some reason it was a completely different song for me this time. The copy I've ripped to my computer seems a little faster, a little more dynamic, than the "quiet" song I remembered. And trust me, there is nothing slower in the world than Bono drawling, "I gave youuuu evrahhhhhthaaaang... you evahhhhh... waaaaaanted" on a (cassette) Walkman whose batteries are about to run out. It's like a frickin' musical speed bump, I'm telling you. But for some reason, it sounds so much better to me now--we're hitting that speed bump at least fifteen miles an hour, instead of, oh, say, two.
Then last night I got it into my head to get a worm for Dido's "Here With Me." God knows what I'll get stuck on next.
Quick confession: Do you know that I have never heard any of the songs from Phantom of the Opera ever, at all, in the history of the world? I thought for a while that I might know the underlying melody to the actual phrase "the music of the night," but now I'm not sure I do. I tried searching "phantom of the opera" on Soulseek, just to listen to a few tracks to see if I'd want to buy it, but all I got was... a lot of Iron Maiden. (Jigga what?) I had a little more success with "webber phantom," except nothing I tried was readily available to download. Hrmm. I'm curious to hear the original cast as well as the movie cast. I think George may have the original cast on CD... maybe I can get him to lend that to me.
I have actually updated SAST substantially, with posts on writing sex scenes, my evil plan, Orlando Bloom, and Lost. Somehow, these posts are not related.

Date: 2004-12-06 07:30 pm (UTC)They had them at Hot Topic a while ago, but my parents' stupid policy of "Oh, it'll be there around Christmastime and we can get it for you then" was not enough to dissuade thousands of people getting theirs and leaving my chance in the dust.
You've made me one less-whiny Pirates fan this Christmastime. Happy holidays to you, Cleolinda, and know that you have my undying gratitude. :)

Date: 2004-12-06 07:32 pm (UTC)Actually, from what I've heard from friends and casual aquaintances who have spent time in the postal/delivery business, if you haven't purchased insurance and you have the audacity to write "FRAGILE" or some such on the box, they're likely to subject it to "special treatment" like kicking or dropping much heavier boxes on it.
oh gawd must have
Date: 2004-12-06 07:36 pm (UTC)I've the speical edition Villans book by Johnston and Thomas - and of course ALL her pins from the D'land.
Think I'll just look at that pic and turn to hubby-man and say "see how much I've saved you by NOT buying this??"
*le sigh*

Date: 2004-12-06 07:43 pm (UTC)I'm afraid I'm going to have "Here With Me" stuck in my head for weeks now. I might even break out my Love Actually dvd and watch the part where the guy who's in love with Keira Knightley starts flipping out in public over and over again, because honestly, it's the best application of that song I've seen.

I love you for that link to that coin! I didn't think I'd be able to get my mom anything but I can afford that. I wanted to get her a Time Turner (http://www.noblecollection.com/catalog/product.cfm?id=NN7017&catid=21) but I can't afford it.

Date: 2004-12-06 08:18 pm (UTC)I have the 2-disc soundtrack on CD from the play itself, if you should be interested in having burned copies or something.
And that box is stunning. I jokingly told my husband I wanted it for Christmas and he looked at the price and laughed in my face. lol

Date: 2004-12-06 08:29 pm (UTC)Do you have the free MusicMatch player? I was seriously able to rip CDs in seconds with that thing. It's so incredibly easy, and if you used that to rip a couple of tracks, you could send them via yousendit.com or straight to cleolinda @ dailydigest.net or whatever. So much easier than copying to a blank CD. : )

Date: 2004-12-06 09:33 pm (UTC)Cleo, if you ever get the chance to see the play, don't hesitate. Seriously, it's awesome. I didn't actually see Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford I don't think, it was a different cast, (I was like, 10 when I saw it, so I don't remember for sure) but it was the best musical I've ever seen in my whole life.

Date: 2004-12-06 10:39 pm (UTC)Couple notes: Masquerade follows the Entr'acte, and the main theme (The Phantom of the Opera) follows Little Lotte/Angel of Music (reprise).
(I listen to Masquerade and I get shivers. I'm so excited for the movie right now, it's not even funny. lol)

Date: 2004-12-06 08:57 pm (UTC)- Pirate Jack looks like he's about to do that spit-between-your-teeth thing that football players always do through their helmets. Freaky.
- Earworms, Hah! Of course, after reading that I'll have a bunch of those in my head. But actually today I had that horrible "I'm Henry the Eighth, I Am" song stuck in my head! Ack. I chased it away with my new obsession, "Derniere Danse" by KYO - I highly recommend it (it's in French, wheee).
- My sister had the PoTO soundtrack when we were younger - I am a big fan of "Angel of Music" - actually liked it better than "Music of the Night"...

Also, there was an interview with Emmy Rossum in the UK edition of The Sunday Times. I managed to track down the online version. I don't know if you've seen it or not.
