"So," I said, "word on the street is that there's some hot soup downstairs." Mom confirmed that there was, in fact, a giant pot of freshly homemade vegetable soup on the burner. She usually does large cooking on Saturdays--soup, spaghetti sauce, chili, etc.--to freeze for the rest of the week, so that's not unusual. Then I saw a cheeseball and triscuits laid out next to the soup bowls for dinner and I thought, This is football food. Is there a football game on? Something about... an iron bowl? Hmm. So I dished up some soup and fished up extra chunks of potato, as is my wont, and made some cheese toast and beat a slow, dizzy retreat back to my room.

I kept up/down/in some saltines and peanut butter this afternoon, so I'm optimistic about the soup and toast. I drifted in and out of a coma sleep this afternoon, and when I woke up a couple of hours ago I felt way feverish, but my temperature was normal. I've cooled down since--I mostly just feel incredibly weak now. I'm hoping that a meal bordering on actual food will make me feel better.

I would really like to lay in bed and watch a movie tonight, but I'm not sure I can stay awake. Also, I would like it to be a really bad cheesy movie, like an old Hammer movie or a black-and-white MST3K episode. Have they put any of the Mike Nelson eps on DVD? I didn't get to watch the show until it hit the Sci-Fi Channel, so I've never actually seen any of the Joel eps. I'm sure they're hilarious, if not more so, but they don't have the comfort-food quality of stuff I've seen a hundred times, like Leech Woman or The Thing That Could Not ("Would Not?") Die, or I Was a Teenage Werewolf. Man, the last ten minutes of the first hour of I Was a Teenage Werewolf used to make me cry with laughter, for some reason.

(Random thought: I've asked for Poe's Haunted CD for my birthday, but until I get it, I have the title song on MP3, and I really wish I had a copy that just stopped at 4:45, because I really, really do not like all the weird voices at the end.)

So. I'm going back to bed now. I have a ton of things I need to do, and after that, I have a ton of things I'd like to do, but... *flop*.

I know they've put both Joel and Mike episodes on DVD, both of which I intend to buy but never get around to. (Alas. *sigh*) I have one MST3K box set, but two of the DVDs are gone and I have no idea where the hell they went.

2. Will edit Haunted for you. Send headsup when it's done. Ok?
3. Glad to hear you're feeling better (:

Poke around the options in your mp3 application sometime--iTunes lets you set playback to stop at a certain time, and the one my brother-in-law uses lets you just delete bits from the beginning or end of the file.

My parents had gastroenteritis last week. Icky stuff. I had to go on an IV last time I had it myself. -_- Take care of yourself and don't get dehydrated.

Do NOT watch "Manos: The Hands of Fate" while you're sick. It's funny as hell (the MSTed version is, the original movie is agony) but probably won't help you recover at all. Save it for when you're well.

Let's see... Ooh, the Creeping Terror. One of my favorite Mike eps. Black and white, but nearly the whole dialogue track got eaten, so it's mostly powered by the narrator. Has one of the best host segments ever: Mike standing and listening to the godawful music for what has to be about two minutes. Just listening. I have no idea why it kills me, but it does. And Mitchell, of course, with the merciless ragging on Joe Don Baker, and... any of the Herc eps, if you can get them, or the Day the Earth Froze or...

Yeah, I used to watch a lot of Mystery Science Theater. *cough*

I have just scads of old Nelson episodes of MST3K on VHS. If you'd like copies, I'd be happy to hook up the VCR. (Too many initials! ::head explodes::)

Awww, thanks. I have tons of them taped myself--the problem is more that my VCR hates me and won't let itself be hooked back up, but the DVD player, of course, works. Stupid VCR.

Really, I'm impressed that you managed to realise that it was football food laid out. If I was sick, I think that through my stupor, figuring something like that out would be pretty much impossible. Good luck keeping the food down, too -- I hate it when I've got the flu and think I'm feeling better, but when I eat something it all comes back up on me. (Hopefully by the time you read this, you'll have already successfully eaten and this won't make it worse.) Anyway. Get some sleep, and hopefully you'll find a good cheesy movie to watch.

Ooh, sounding a bit better, I hope that means whatever's up is beginning to cycle through.

In some totally random tangent, The Amazing Race is on right now in the background (I think it's a repeat of the first episode, I've never watched this show before), and I just saw Maria yell "kick it 90 degrees!" at her partner on the ice climb, and then suddenly her goggles fell down over her face, and she jumped, and for some reason I just started laughing my ass off.

If there is ANY way anyone here who watches the Amazing Race could make an icon of that, I would love them forever.

Am a little late on the well-wishing...

Oh, the Iron Bowl's been around since 1892 (http://www.al.com/ironbowl/info.ssf?history/index.html), thank you very much. It's a deeply entrenched rivalry between the University of Auburn and the University of Alabama's college football teams. That's what it is, every year: those two teams playing each other, while the two halves of Alabama hate each other cordially over chips and dip.

I have the opposite reaction to Mike, actually. Joel was the dude that I remember most fondly from my youth, with classics like Pod People, Gamara vs. Zigra, and Giant Gila Monster being sure fire comfort for me. Them comparing the kid's pets to potatoes in Pod People is actually a standard trope in my group of friends. "Oh look, this potato's got big ears!"

I hope you feel better. :)

Michael J. Fox may have done a remake, I'm not sure--the movie they MST3K'd was the old '50s b&w version with a young Michael Landon.

Yeah, "Haunted?" Heard that version for the first time alone, at night, in my car, driving down an old backroad in Texas (there are plenty down here). I heard that part and started to pitch a spaz - I thought my car had come alive on me, and that it meant I was headed for an eerie and mysterious death.

Maybe I shouldn't have watched The Ring the night before...

Dude. I feel your pain with the sickness. ::green:: Although mine was caused by a food allergy, I still feel like I've been hit by a truck. X_x...

Joel was my sekrit husband when I was 13 years old. ::blush:: He was always my favorite over Mike years ago! Someone else said to wait until you feel better to watch Manos: The Hands of Fate, and I second that advice. You WILL make yourself go hurl-ey with laughter. Another good one for this time of year is Santa Claus Conquers The Martians, which was MST3Ks first Christmas show. Complete with Crow dressed as a reindeer. :D!

Ahh, memories. I need to get these episodes on DVD. It's been too long. Feel better soon. :)
