Nov. 20th, 2004 08:50 pm"So," I said, "word on the street is that there's some hot soup downstairs." Mom confirmed that there was, in fact, a giant pot of freshly homemade vegetable soup on the burner. She usually does large cooking on Saturdays--soup, spaghetti sauce, chili, etc.--to freeze for the rest of the week, so that's not unusual. Then I saw a cheeseball and triscuits laid out next to the soup bowls for dinner and I thought, This is football food. Is there a football game on? Something about... an iron bowl? Hmm. So I dished up some soup and fished up extra chunks of potato, as is my wont, and made some cheese toast and beat a slow, dizzy retreat back to my room.
I kept up/down/in some saltines and peanut butter this afternoon, so I'm optimistic about the soup and toast. I drifted in and out ofa coma sleep this afternoon, and when I woke up a couple of hours ago I felt way feverish, but my temperature was normal. I've cooled down since--I mostly just feel incredibly weak now. I'm hoping that a meal bordering on actual food will make me feel better.
I would really like to lay in bed and watch a movie tonight, but I'm not sure I can stay awake. Also, I would like it to be a really bad cheesy movie, like an old Hammer movie or a black-and-white MST3K episode. Have they put any of the Mike Nelson eps on DVD? I didn't get to watch the show until it hit the Sci-Fi Channel, so I've never actually seen any of the Joel eps. I'm sure they're hilarious, if not more so, but they don't have the comfort-food quality of stuff I've seen a hundred times, like Leech Woman or The Thing That Could Not ("Would Not?") Die, or I Was a Teenage Werewolf. Man, the last ten minutes of the first hour of I Was a Teenage Werewolf used to make me cry with laughter, for some reason.
(Random thought: I've asked for Poe's Haunted CD for my birthday, but until I get it, I have the title song on MP3, and I really wish I had a copy that just stopped at 4:45, because I really, really do not like all the weird voices at the end.)
So. I'm going back to bed now. I have a ton of things I need to do, and after that, I have a ton of things I'd like to do, but... *flop*.

Date: 2004-11-20 08:25 pm (UTC)Let's see... Ooh, the Creeping Terror. One of my favorite Mike eps. Black and white, but nearly the whole dialogue track got eaten, so it's mostly powered by the narrator. Has one of the best host segments ever: Mike standing and listening to the godawful music for what has to be about two minutes. Just listening. I have no idea why it kills me, but it does. And Mitchell, of course, with the merciless ragging on Joe Don Baker, and... any of the Herc eps, if you can get them, or the Day the Earth Froze or...
Yeah, I used to watch a lot of Mystery Science Theater. *cough*

Date: 2004-11-20 09:42 pm (UTC)In some totally random tangent, The Amazing Race is on right now in the background (I think it's a repeat of the first episode, I've never watched this show before), and I just saw Maria yell "kick it 90 degrees!" at her partner on the ice climb, and then suddenly her goggles fell down over her face, and she jumped, and for some reason I just started laughing my ass off.
If there is ANY way anyone here who watches the Amazing Race could make an icon of that, I would love them forever.
Am a little late on the well-wishing...
Date: 2004-11-20 10:26 pm (UTC)bad pizzaand will soon be feeling better.Have friended you. Don't feel obligated to friend back as I've seen how long your flist really is. But if you do chance over to check out my lj, keep in mind I'm new to lj and so it's very, very tiny. Also, I should point out that I wandered over from m15m and your PoA recap is what made me have to seek out more of your humor to read.
But finally, some advice: lots of liquids and sleep and feel better soon.

I'm sucking down vitamin C like it's candy and trying to avoid people who look pale and wobbly. It's encouraging, I must say, to see that you can still LJ while gripped by contagion. And still be funny, too.

I remember seeing that Werewolf movie but I can't remember anything about it. Was Michael J Fox in it?
Would you mind if I added you to my Friends List?

Date: 2004-11-21 04:05 pm (UTC)Michael J. Fox may have done a remake, I'm not sure--the movie they MST3K'd was the old '50s b&w version with a young Michael Landon.

Date: 2004-11-22 10:04 am (UTC)Joel was my sekrit husband when I was 13 years old. ::blush:: He was always my favorite over Mike years ago! Someone else said to wait until you feel better to watch Manos: The Hands of Fate, and I second that advice. You WILL make yourself go hurl-ey with laughter. Another good one for this time of year is Santa Claus Conquers The Martians, which was MST3Ks first Christmas show. Complete with Crow dressed as a reindeer. :D!
Ahh, memories. I need to get these episodes on DVD. It's been too long. Feel better soon. :)
