Aw, hell. Have some kind of stomach flu. (Actually, I think it was the stupid pizza I had last night, but we'll call it "stomach flu.") Have been up since three in the morning (yes, that's something like eight hours now) being sick and having weird dreams. Ughhhhh. And it's the kind of upset stomach that has that really dangerous feeling to it--like you're afraid to get comfortable, because you might have to leap up at any moment. Fnarrrrrrrr.

I have several things to journal about, including some adventures at the mall yesterday and a few sad things as well, but... blarrrrrrg.

Sorry about your stomach...

The weirdest dream I've had in awhile involved me being on an Amish reality show, where non-Amish had to survive being on an Amish farm (for some reason in the middle of a city), with the dress and the work and everything. It was weird, yet concievable in today's television.

I've actually seen an Amish in the City reality show.

Yeah, but it was different than that. That was Amish living in a city, not being Amish. I had to live with the Amish, like they did. Like in a bonnet, and not using electricity, and farming. Stuff like that.

I have the same thing. I thought it was the food I ate as well, but it's been with me awhile, so I think it's a virus...

Hope you feel better soon.

Drink. And no, not alcomohol. Water, ginger ale, maybe something sweeter if you feel you can hold it down. That might help calm the issues in the GI tract and enable you to get some sleep.

Just a suggestion...

Feel better! *transmits love*

Thanks. Mom's been bring me Coke--I don't know if it's true, but it's widely held around here that Coke will settle an upset stomach. It's... sort of not working so far. : (

immodium AD is my godsend drug for any stomach/intestinal issues. it's only supposed to be for the runs, but it works for me for nausea/vomiting, too. better than pepto, although the pepto pills tend to work better than the liquid.

that said, i hope you get better soon. being sick around the holidays is awful, and with less than a week until thanksgiving, it would suck to have stomach flu on one of the biggest feast days all year...trust me, i've had it on multiple thanksgivings, christmasses, AND new year's eves (one year i had it on all 3 holidays), and it sucks even more than usual.

Oh, I've been deathly ill with the stomach flu on all those holidays before, too. I took some Immodium AD earlier today, and it took a good four hours (!) to kick in. Yar.

From: [identity profile] jennnk.livejournal.com
i always take another one if the AD doesn't kick in after 30 minutes. i figure if it's safe enough for pregnant women to take, it's safe enough for me to take an extra one.

and what is it with being sick on holidays?

Speaking as someone who has a chronic stomach issue, which comes with more or less daily nausea? Drink lots and lots of water. Throwing up dehydrates you. Also, ginger settles the stomach, I've been told. (Though honestly, the only real solution that works for me is to just, uh, keep throwing up until it stops, and then just don't eat anything for a good long while. If you do need to eat, toast, crackers, and only little nibbles at a time.)

:/ Sorry you're feeling yucky, baby.

Date: 2004-11-20 04:43 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com
Awww! I hate that you have to deal with that. I used to have chronic upset stomachs, like, as a kid, and then we found out it was, more specifically, "chronic anxiety," and I just needed to learn to mellow the fuck out.

And it's, uh, not throwing up that's the problem. And thank God, actually, because if it were I'd almost certainly blow out all the capillaries in my face and have to show up for class looking like the Phantom of the Opera. I've managed to keep crackers and a little peanut butter down (or up, or whatever), so I could take my normal medication, and I've been sipping on Coke when I wasn't in a coma sleeping. I'm going to switch to water or something once I'm sure I can hold it in.

Awww, I'm fighting off the flu, too, and drinking olive leaf extract and umcka like water. It's helping.

And I had the mother of all weird dreams not too long ago involving an alien invasion, Care Bears, and Alex Trebek being the Lord of Destruction. All in the same dream.

But if you are sick, come one down to [livejournal.com profile] sages_of_chaos. Unburden yourself, jump in anywhere, and have some fun. My friend cured herself of a splitting migraine last night laughing at some of the threads.

In a fit of nerd, I feel obliged to say: there's almost no such thing as stomach flu. It's almost always mild food poisoning. Your pizza theory is correct.

But that's good, because in 24 hours you're done with it. Flu, not so much.

Date: 2004-11-20 04:48 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com
Yeah... basically "stomach flu," among my family and pretty much everyone I know, is a polite euphemism for "yucky TMI."

The weird thing is, everyone in my family ate some of that pizza, and I'm the only one who got sick.

I'm not feeling well either! I think something's going around, though I doubt you live anywhere near me (Kentucky).

Anyway, I was inspired to make some "heroine addict" icons of my own. (The one above is Lyra from "The Golden Compass," a fan-freaking-tastic book that you should read- it will take your mind off being sick!)

Of course, I didn't realize you'd made a Nausicaa one until after I made it. Oh well.

Oh, I love His Dark Materials--there's a great John Howe "Subtle Knife" cover that was never used that we should make icons from.

From: [identity profile] lyrainverse.livejournal.com
Do you know they're making movie versions of His Dark Materials? I don't know what to think, mostly because they haven't done any casting yet. I heard a rumor that the producers wanted to make Lyra and Will older, like teenagers. Which, of course, completely demolishes a major piece of the plot. Not that that's stopped producers before.

Anyway, where can I find said Subtle Knife cover? I will gladly make an icon out of it, as I have recently discovered the joys of Photoshop.

I can totally relate! After getting my wisdom teeth out (once the sedatives or whatever they're called wore off) I was sick for 24 hours straight, maybe more. Something with the medication, blood I swallowed, and other shit just didn't react well in my stomach or whatever. So yeah, I know what you're feeling. Hopefully yours doesn't last as long as mine did and you actually manage to sleep some.

Ginger ale is the best for calming upset stomachs but 7-up or Sprite will also work. Feel better!

When I had knee surgery a few years ago they gave me too much knock-out stuff (cn't speel) and then when I got home I took some opium based pain pills and went to bed. I had the WORST dreams and to top it all off, when I woke up at like 8 am I was horribly sick to my stomach and had to PEE like a racehorse... but I was on crutches and everytime I got up and wobbled I'd get dizzy and couldn't get to the bathroom. I had to close my eyes and hold it until my dad got up and could help me walk.

Anywho- feel better, the flu is traversing my house now. Boyfriend's been down all week, I'm getting sick, and the cat's been at the vet with the kitty flu o' doom intestinal issues since Monday.

What I always did when I had a very upset stomach or flu would be to drink Gatorade. It gets some nutrients into you without the dangers of trying to keep food down, and it also helps to rehydrate you, as being continually sick tends to really dehydrate your body.

Anyway, that's always helped me, if only a little. Mind, it did ruin Gatorade for me forever, but I never liked it much in the first place...
