Sender: Lagina Clifton

Subject: Tarina, I'd like to get to the point where I can be just as mediocre as a man

I... what?

ETA: I opened the email, but it was blank. I get crap like that all the time. It's kinda spooky.

*jaw hangs ajar* *eyes stare blankly at screen*

Just... but... I... huh?

Yeah... Um... I'll be over there.

OTOH, she (?) appears to have awfully low ambitions...

But...but..what? Wait, no, really. What?

That still makes no sense.

Well, after that, you have to give us the rest. Don't keep us in suspense about it?

God I love that anti-Bayesian-filter spam pseudobadpoetry thing. Stuff. (Quest. Mission.)

Someday someone's gonna launch a new genre dedicated to this... stuff.

Icon heart! Mariska Hargitay is one of very few females that I would even consider "switching teams" for. : O) Oh yeah, and she's a damn fine actress on a damn fine show.

Finally, true equality is within your grasp.

Not quite as weird as it seems - it's a quote from Juanita Krebs: http://www.nndb.com/people/374/000061191/

I'd translate it to mean that as a woman in business or government, you're on display all the time and not allowed to be average - you're not considered to be equal to a man unless you excel.

Yes, but how do you explain "Lagina"?

L(ethargic V)agina?

Whatever it is, it made one silly lesbian giggle. ;) (I'm really not one of those man-hating types, but... y'know.)

I think it's inexplicable.

OTOH, it brings a bizarre idea to my mind of "Lesbians from the Black Lagoon!"

Well, they accomplished their mission as far as I'm concerned -- if I had received an email with that subject line, I'd definitely be intrigued enough to open it.

Heh, thank you; I just modified the graphic of blue states that's making the rounds (from [livejournal.com profile] testaclese, I believe).

Is it wrong that I can't see what it's depicting?

Props to the blue states, though... (They're the Democrat ones, right? I'm an Aussie, I can't keep up!)

It just shows all the blue states together (and yes, the blue ones are the ones in which the majority voted Democrat). :)

Sounds like another way of saying "women have to be twice as good to get half as far," or an observation on how much more mediocrity hobbles women working outside the home than men.

If figuring out "Lagina" and "Tarina" was the point, I missed it.

This is COMPLETELY random, but I'm new to the movies in 15 minutes and am friending this journal, so I wanted to introduce myself (hi, I'm Rebecca, your stuff is hilarious).

My favourites are the ones that invite me to find "sexy Jewish/Christian/Muslim singles in my area". The ones about a so-called "Christian Mortgage" crack me up too. But at least their English is somewhat coherent...!

To me it was sounding like the meme :
"Grab the nearest book. Open the book to page 23. Find the fifth sentence. Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions."

Careful opening those... Seriously.

What they are, a lot of times, are simple emails with strange or intriguing subject lines. Seemingly from someone who's miskeyed an address, what they really are is a bit of PRE-spam. (like pre-come)

It's got an invisible-to-you "read alert" on it, to let the sender know when the email has been read, therefore verifying that it's a valid, and current, email.

Then, they add you to the Big Spam list...
