The good news is that I just finished voting, and no one tried to challenge me or get in my way or shut me up.

The bad news is that I just got out of the doctor's before that. I do have polycystic ovarian syndrome, and there's something bad enough wrong with me that I have to have my blood tested for thyroid problems and/or diabetes and then have a transabdominal ultrasound to make sure I don't have uterine cancer. And the lab/hospital work isn't even scheduled until Nov. 12.

I'll be curled up over here on my bed not watching election coverage if you need me.

That's a lot to happen in one day! I hope things turn out for the best.

I have PCOS, and I can tell you that the syndrome in itself is not the end of world, even if it is a pain in the ass to manage and deal with at times. (If you'd like someone to talk to about it, please email and I'd be glad to send you resources or listen or talk about my experiences if that would help.)

From one polycystic to another, I hug you. Gently, in case of flare up.

I've had three ultrasounds and thyroid tests multiple times. Nothing yet, but it's something to keep an eye on.

I reccomend drinking but not eating before the ultrasounds, unless they tell you otherwise. Drinking allows for a better look at some things, and is easily evacuated if they need to.

If you need anything - shoulder to cry on, recipe for five-can soup (comfort food), macabre humor (mostly from my sister, who's on dialysis and has a million of 'em) - you let me know, 'k?

Sorry to hear about the PCOS, but I hope it'll make you grin, at least, to know that the extensive network of Cleo-philes is now concerned as hell for your bottom system. Think happy thoughts of verbally (and otherwise) copulating with the Lost boys.

I've never commented you before, and just friended you on a lark the other night after I found one of your Lost summaries via Google. Anyway...I commiserate. PCOS is becoming frightfully more common, although it's not actually common...yet. Also, I spent the afternoon in the ER with my father before going to vote, so yay for unfortunate parallels.

PCOS sucks but it isn't the end of the world. I've had it for more than 30 years so I've seen it all and done it twice. There are a lot of very good medications out there to deal with it, depending on the severity of your symptoms. I don't think twice about it these days.

Plus, there are a lot of good websites out there for info on PCOS - my fav is Soulcysters (http://www.soulcysters.com/). Anything you're going through, 100 other cysters have already gone through it and will support you.

My ex-wife has PCOS: we dealt with it for years. She's taking birth control pills (to control the hormonal swells), and is doing quite well and quite comfortably now. (No pain, no recurrence of the cysts, full activity, and she's dropping the weight she gained due to a combination of thyroid and PCOS issues.)

I'll be keeping you in my thoughts, and I'll be happy to share what I've learned from the non-ovary-bearing side, if you wish.

Be well.

Don't let it scare you too much honey - especially the testing.

If they give you any bad thyroid news, let me know, and FOR THE LUV OF GAWD if there is a thyroid issue, don't do anything until you see an endrocrinologist. ANYTHING! Furthermore, seeing one for these abnormalities might not be a bad idea anyway. I never once showed thyroid issues in my bloodwork, and I had tyroid cancer. Go figure.

*praying for you*

*apologizes for loosing temper earlier with the trolls*

Sorry to hear that you are joining the PCOS club! I am also a member.

A bit of levity. When I went for the ultrasound, I was told to drink at least 16 oz of water 1 hr prior to the scheduled ultrasound. They radiology place was very busy, so I had to sweat it out in the waiting room. By the time they were ready for me I had to pee like a Russian race horse. Up on the table goes me, in goes the probe...Guess what I was too full(!). The nurse tells me to go the the bathroom and let out half. HALF! I ask you! Well I possess super bladder control and actually managed to let out roughly half. I'd like to see a guy who can do that!!!! Result Pcos, now on birth control pills until menopause. So far so good.
