HANCOCK, RACHEL

— he stopped. There were fewer than fifty names on file, and most of them were men—the odds of a Rachel being among them were… what? Slim?

And then they were all hit by a truck.

YAY!

It's easier for them to all be hit by a truck when they're on file. See how well that worked out?

:D

And the author reached her omnipotent hand into the scene and smited them all for pissing her off so much, then went to write more m15m.

So, the man split into several different people, one of whom tried to change the past, one who went into the future, and one who went into an alternate universe in which Mina was recieving a crucifix necklace for her birthday. And then the universe wrenched, and the person left behind in the present found that there wasn't a complication after all, and went to live with the woman of his dreams and pet marmoset, and run a bookstore.

Is it bad if I went "OOOOOOOOOh!" when I read that "it has a flashback and a flashforward and it may have a flashsideways"? Because that sounds wonderful to me. But I will send help anyway:

Rose Hannah, sit down and be quiet and play nice with your typist. Grr. Bad.

Awww, thanks. (I actually stole the line about the flashsideways from Funny Farm. Watch it sometime if you want a silly laugh. :)

I wonder if my school library has a copy? We have some very interesting movies. I can't wait until someone finally returns Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Have the past events been relayed in dialogue, story told by one character to another, letter or journal entry.

Stop with the future events, or there is danger of writerliness such as, "If only Robert had known death and destruction lay around the corner, he would never have trusted Gwen in the scene we're reading in present timeline."

Or, the flash forward is really a scene for a future chapter, and your brain leapt there to make sure the connection between now and then are in place.

Just some suggestions.

Well, I confess that I'm exaggerating a bit--the Chevy Chase chararacter in Funny Farm has a novel that has "a FB, a FF, and a FS!" The real problem is that I started writing a flashback that went on way longer than I expected. On the upside, I've decided to use the new character in the flashback in series 2. So there's that. :)

Time well spent, indeed.

To This Rebellious Scene -

Please listen to your maker, as it is awful when you do not [stop] You know that she made you and that she can break you with a special thing called the Delete Key Of Death [stop]

Besides, Cleolinda is very nice and I don't know why you aren't being nice back [stop]

Please extend my best wishes to your maker, as I have faith that she can come out on top on this [stop]

It's hilarious--I can't remember the URL offhand, but it's basically a picture of a cat looking at a computer. Then a picture of a cat looking at a computer with a picture of the first cat/computer. Then a picture of a cat looking at the second cat looking at the first cat. Then a picture of a cat looking at the third cat looking at the second cat looking at the first cat. I think they're up to, like, a picture of a cat looking at the frillionth cat by now.
