Horoscope today: Stop trying to juggle every ball at once. Come back and pick some up later.

Wow, Sister Girl is mad about tonight's Amazing Race (she's a Models for God fan, and is afraid they won't win if Colin and Christie are still in the game). Although she really enjoys going around shouting, "MY OX IS BROKEN! OMG I HATE YOU!"

Also, my computer has arrived, software, peripherals and all... but I can't set it up because of the hurricane. Now Mom's saying I ought to move it to the rec room two floors down in case a tree falls on the house. You know what? If a tree falls on my room, I'm thinking I'm going to have bigger problems than not having a computer, like "I ain't got no bed" and "I ain't got no clothes" and "I ain't got no roof." ("Well, that's true...")

(Damn, I hadn't been keeping up with the news and hadn't realized that New Orleans is being evacuated. I hope [livejournal.com profile] marcusisabadass is okay.)

Oh, and before I forget--Vladimir brought back some Howl's Moving Castle pics from Venice. (I have another, but I just cannot get it to upload. I don't know, either.) Now with correct captions:

The moving castle
Howl
Sophie
the Witch of the Waste

Arrrghhhh! I'm furious. Stupid non-elimination.

The old woman is Sophie.

I belive that the last one may be the Witch of the Waste. It's been a while since I've read the book, so I'm not entirely sure on that one, but the old woman is definitely Sophie.

Actually, now that I look, the blue-eyed character is probably Howl and not Sophie. Sophie doesn't look like that, IIRC.

Am i the first to comment? Rock.

Anyway Im a little worried about the two many balls thing (hehehe, I geddit) because i dont want my cleolinda to drop ANY of the wonderful things she's doing!
I have no idea what that old lady is doing in Howl's castle, but i guess its compulsory to have one in an anime film.

That old lady is the main character - Sophie gets bewitched. :)

I knew we had to be getting a delayed series of TAR. We're in the race where... *thinks*... The 'Life Partners' blocked off the airport departure gate, and the two Frat Brothers were about to beat some ass into the ground.

Dammit I love this show. I hope they do Box Sets. *crosses fingers*

Thanks for sharing the pics from Howl's Moving Castle. I've seen most of them before, but never in such good detail.

1. The Castle - correct
2. This is actually Howl
3. This is Sophie. She starts off as a youngish girl, but is turned into an old woman by the witch of the waste.
4. I'd agree with the other person who thinks this is the witch of the waste.

And I most sincerely hope that storm takes a detour and leaves you alone. :)

I think that Howl has got to be the prettiest boy I've ever seen come out of Miyazaki, but yeah, it's definitely Howl.

Now I have to go dig up my book. I loaned out my copy of Castle in the Air and never got it back. *weeps*

It's just not how I see Howl at all but it has grown on me. I need to see this movie, and soon, or I fear I will implode with anticipation.

How terrible that you lost your copy of Howl. I cherish mine with all my heart. Here's hoping it comes back to you one day. :)

I moved recently, so for all I know, it's in that box hiding in the back of my closet. Here's hoping! :D

But yes, Howl is one of my favorite books. A friend convinced me to buy it to read on a plane ride home once, and I was utterly hooked.

I will admit that I was both excited and really nervous upon hearing that Miyazaki was making the movie, though. I'm still afraid that he's somehow screwed something up and I won't like the movie. I don't want to dislike a Miyazaki film!

Howl's Moving Castle fans, and a whole clutch of them at that! It's hands-down one of my favorite books, from the opening line ("In the land of Ingary...") to the last line ("besides, it's raining out in Market Chipping") it is a delight and a pleasure. I am VERY nervous about the movie, and here's a link to a review (http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=12716) that makes me even more nervous... it sounds like they've tinkered a a bit with the story line. Nervous, yes I am. But hopeful. I guess.

Awesome. Now, if you'll check your gmail... you may find a few things in there (I've also apologised extensively via gmail about, er, gmail. The things I mean.)

Still. Your brand new eP and all. Wow.

Ciao,
Pet.

*whistles!* Miyazaki's making a movie of Howl's Moving Castle? Rock.

Ooh, Howl is so pretty. Though the castle's a little more steampunk than I'd envisioned.

i want a new computerrrrrrrrr. man.

and yes, i would agree that if a tree falls through your room, you'll have bigger problems than a smashed brand-new computer.

although that would be a pretty big problem.

I like how Moving Castle looks. Very old-schoolish. Do you know if the creative minds had a part in, say, Captain Harlock?

Colin Quinn actually did an amusing bit tonight at the beginning of Tough Crowd about the hurricane: "Yeah, that big drunk Russian Ivan is staggering over to New Orleans, but if any city can handle it, it's them. They're used to strangers showing up wasted and trashing the place: 'Show your TIIIIITS!!' 'Hey now, you better git outta here, the cops are comin' and they saw what you did to Jamaica.'"

Or something like that. Not to be dismissive of what people are going through down there, he justmade me laugh. And you take care, and let me know if you need anything, OK?

And to think I have included thorough captions for each picture in the main body of the e-mail...

The "Sophie" is actually Howl the Wizard, the old woman is Sophie, and the huge woman is, correctly, the Witch of the Waste. I dunno what Cleo did with the picture of Sophie, the dog, the scarecrow and the Castle, but then again, she is being evacuated, and these are small gripes.

I said! That's the picture I couldn't get to load! Also, I accidentally deleted the original emails, so I didn't have the captions on me anymore, and just had to try to remember what you'd said. (Make me feel bad... sniff...)

Oh, and I have another Boo for you, and it's awesome.

*grin* Mom logic - it's so precious, it must need saving in case of contigencies!

The whole tree falling down thing makes me think of Poltergeist and the scary, kiddie-grabbing tree. 0_o

Other than that, best wishes for the hurricane. I hope you'll be safe and well.

So, any word on an American release date for Howl's Moving Castle? And, just out of curiosity, are you a DWJ fan, a Miyazaki fan, or both?

Date: 2004-09-15 11:01 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com
Hmm, I'll have to look up the date. I'd never heard of DWJ before this movie, so I'm going to have to get hold of some of her stuff. I'm a Miyazaki fan, actually--I loved Mononoke (also Spirited Away), and I can't *wait* for the Nausicaa dub to come out. (Or, for that matter, a subtitled region 1 DVD.)

From: [identity profile] queenofattolia.livejournal.com
I think the film will be released in Japan in November. Disney hasn't yet announced a release date for the dubbed version in the US.

Please do read as much DWJ as possible, particularly Howl, its sequel Castle In The Air, Deep Secret, its sequel The Merlin Conspiracy, Hexwood, Fire and Hemlock and A Sudden Wild Magic. These will be right up your alley (big m15m fan here). Then you can read everything else (to say she is prolific is putting it mildly, but most everything is of very high quality and witty and inventive as hell).

But Howl's supposed to be a Welsh, rugby-playing waster, not a pretty little boy. Grumble, grumble, grumble.

Personally, I've been a DWJ fan since I read 'Charmed Life' at the age of ten.

I feel incredibly out of touch by saying this, but what the heck is Howl's Moving Castle? Like, I know it's a movie and such, but what's it about? Is it based on a book? Ack, I feel so un-geeky...

In happier news, I laughed myself silly while watching TAR. "OMG I can't believe they YIELDED us, OMG CHIP AND KIM ARE BACKSTABBERS!" Right, Colin and Christie. Y'all totally wouldn't do that to anyone else.

From: [identity profile] palmetto.livejournal.com
It's based on a book by Diana Wynne Jones. You can find it in the young adult section of your local bookstore or library. There's also a sequel of sorts, Castle in the Air.

They're amazing reads. :)

I hadn't been watching TAR all season, but I ran around today shouting, "My OX is BROKEN!!"

Then I sang "What a Feeling" from Flashdance, but that is a different story. I'm sure the three cups of coffee, half of a cappuccino, and lone Krispy Kreme doughnut I had for breakfast aren't helping my case with this one.

I am insane. TAR rocks. And good luck with the hurricane. ::prays for imminent death of Ivan.::
