Oh God. I am so ashamed of myself. Is it retail therapy if it's ugly?

Since we were talking about it last night, and I had conversations with several different people on the subject, herewith: a list of links to scary LOTR toys.

Not the face of a happy man.

MY EYES!

Tell me this is not what I just bought. Seriously, if it sucks this bad, I will just resell it on eBay. And you know how I feel about eBay capitalists, and will probably continue to feel until I start pirating some serious cash myself, because I'm a hypocrite like that. What was the subject again?

Not bad.

The best Aragorn figure ever. (The best Legolas.)

A really awesome upcoming Galadriel Barbie. Legolas is poncy. Arwen's okay, if thoroughly Barbie. This is possibly the worst Aragorn ever.

I take that back. SO SCARY. (Right next to Aragorn: My Galadriel doll. Except mine doesn't look quite as good as the prototype there. She does have a "silver" brooch the prototype doesn't have, though.)

Same people, main menu: some of the likenesses are just horrifically off, due to what must have been a tragic scanning accident that ended in flames and recriminations, but some of them look pretty good. Here's the Arwen I'm still looking for, even though she's kinda scary. (Actually, she looks better in the produced version. But I AM NOT PAYING $60 FOR THIS DOLL. WELL, UNLESS I GET REALLY DESPERATE.) That's my Eowyn right above her.

Awww! The littlest orc!

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, I think I'm coming down with a cold, because I keep sneezing. And crying. Although that has less to do with the cold than with stress and hormones, I think. Mostly hormones. I'm actually coming along pretty well on the Harry Potter parody, although I'm still struggling with a Matrix fight scene to be written in faux-programmer code.

Oh, and Vladimir ran into Alfonso CuarĂ³n at the Venice fest. And got his autograph. And did not get one for me. God bless him, he's already angsting about it. Apparently he's "set up an interview with Katsushiro Otomo, director of Steamboy" that he's going to give to me for the Digest even though I haven't updated it in forever because I suck yea suckfully. Oh, and apparently he's going to the Shark Tale party, which will probably involve him meeting more celebs, because he always does. I swear, the man is fame bait.

Truly, it is the shit. If you mean this one (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00006BSRX/qid=1094796289/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl21/103-9552528-7079039?v=glance&s=toys&n=507846), apparently Amazon can get it to you in 24 hours.

(You don't really get the full effect until you see it with the other toys (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00009KO8D/qid=1094796289/sr=8-2/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i2_xgl21/103-9552528-7079039?v=glance&s=toys&n=507846).)

Actually, I could have sworn that [livejournal.com profile] malenky_devil said something about even Haldir having an action figure on the previous entry--I think it was hard to find, but maybe it's out there...?

Dudette, even Beethoven has an action figure.

Just opened a catalogue from The Metropolitan Opera and threw it aside IN HORROR.

"Comes with its own piano stool..."

WTF?

I WANT THAT ACTION FIGURE! lol. I saw a bobblehead Bach the other day too. Right next to a bobblehead Shubert, Beeethoven, and ... someone else, don't remember who.

Just for you, I dug the catalogue out of the (all paper) trash.

You can call The Met Shop at 800-892-2525 (24/7). Beethoven Action Figure item #12065, $9.95

Yes indeedy, Haldir has an action figure. I can prove it now because I have a digi-cam but alas can't take a picture of it. I haven't seen one since I found it in his toybox that one day, but it exists. If I can find Elrond and Elendil, Haldir exists (kicks self for not buying Elendil, but there was only one Elrond and I had to have it).

And Gil-Galad was in the movie, he was in the prologue of FotR.

Ken Doll Aragorn looks like Yitzhak from Hedwig and the Angry Inch.

The very first link makes Aragorn look like he has eaten too much roughage, and is trying to find a handy bush. Either that, or he has something stuck well up his rear...*Ohhhh, so THAT'S where the Ring of Power went!*

I wish I had made it, but I just nabbed it from another LJ user. Heh heh.
I also am using it to illustrate a point: I frequently visit the site godafwul.net, and someone pointed out the LJ of someone who appeared to be a RADICAL Christian Fundamentalist, and I decided to post some positive comments her way. She has not flamed me in the least, and seeing as how my icon could be construed as *ahem* somewhat blasphemous, I think it has become pretty obvious that I was right about my assertion that her LJ is merely a satiric look at the idiocy of some people who act in 'the name of what's right' (i.e. religious extremists).

Plus, I just think it's funny. :-P

The NewLine figures look nice, I want the littlest orc!

I came into $2k last fall and bought the entire first half of the Xmen series of comics. Because I could. I think it counts as long as it makes you happy. ;)

I have the littlest orc.
He lives in my purse usually, I take him everywhere.
He's like my mascot.
When I DJ he's next to the mixer, watching.

You'd think I'm kidding but I really am not. (and I wonder why I don't get dates...)

I dunno if it is retail therapy if it is ugly, but it is certainly retail therapy if you WANT it!!

I have banned myself entirely from buying any more action figures. I have ONE: Legolas from FOTR. But you have made it VERY tempting...

Those sound one/action ones look too good to be THAT good...

Wow.

It looks like they made the mold of Stuart Townshend (sp?) and then they had to, you know, add hair and scruff for Viggo's Aragorn... So it's Viggo's and Stuart's Bastard Aragorn!

Oh God, I need that Galadriel Barbie so badly. Or maybe I need the one like yours, because she actually looks like Cate Blanchett, so that's two things (okay, people) I can lust after at the same time.

I actually like the Aragorns you linked to.

Barbie Aragon looks like he drew on his beard with eyeliner yo. (http://www.theonering.net/scrapbook/view/9367?q=barbie&g=1)

...And I love Bilbo's little stance and his face but I don't remember him having severely burned ankles and feet in the book (http://www.marvel.com/toybiz/previews/81192.jpg) *runs from Bilbo's Freddie Krueger feet*

...who is vladimir, again?
the majority of those action figures could - and probably will - give me nightmares. seriously.

You know, I had some great entry several weeks back about who Vladimir actually is, for people just coming in, but of course I can't find it now. The simplest way to sum it up is "long-distance significant other," basically.

I WANT that Galadriel doll! Do you think I could trade my uber-kewlies Frodo and Sam bookmark for it? Or my china doll I got for First Communion? Because, seriously, that thing freaks me out...

Vladimir is the coolest guy ever, I love reading his journal. Because, really, anyone who can get Alfonso Cuaron's autograph? Is cool.

I personally think that the gimli doll is scarier than the Aragorn one. Though the Aragorn one is TERRIFYING. who ever heard of a King of Men with an afro. cos that's basically what it is.
That Arwen is pretty scary too...are they trying to give children (and grown-up collectors of course) nightmares with these toys? ^^ wouldn't stop me buying them though.
I can't wait for your book to hit the shops. Do you know when it'll be availiable in England???

Amn't faimbait! Am angstin! Donde esta Cuaron! Ahhh!

Still, I did finally manage to get a respectable enough autograph for La Squisha. Amn't telling whose, though.

And the Otomo interview will count as a Digest update, right? Also, be an angel and see into the places where I can post photo galleries of all the movies seen here - I have about 3 kilos of photo CDs that need to be shared with el mundo, muchsgrcias.

Heeeeee. If you mean "a place where you can physically store them," then a couple of Photobucket accounts (free, about a gig each) ought to handle it.

(Yay autograph!)

I think out of all the Aragorns only 2 are even CLOSE to decent! (the "best Aragorn" and the "some of them look pretty good" links). But WHAT were they thinking when they made the ones in the first 2 links?? Especially the coronation set Aragorn - he looks like the "dumbest-kid-in-the-class, just-got-hit-with-a-baseball, gonna-be-sick-on-your-shoes Aragorn." GAHHH!
I mean, really. Viggo Mortensen = clean-cut features. How can they go SO WRONG?

One of the local chain bookstores has these limited edition Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton presidential dolls, about 13" tall and *fugly*. I mena, they look like the industrial-accident-scar-disfigurement-melted-wax version of themselves, plus when you press their lapels THEY TALK TO YOU. Basically quotes from their terms in office.

You can just imagine falling asleep with them on your bookshelf one night and waking up to two 13" Incarnations Of Presidential Replica Doll Evil crawling over your bed wielding steak knives, their eyes glittering as they near your throat, cheerily babbling about "There is nothing wrong about America that cannot be cured by what is right about America" and "We are the greatest nation on earth."

And, hmm, maybe one of those really hideous Aragorn dolls could leap in to kill Teh Evil Ones and die tragically himself, proving that the fug concealed a truly noble heart. God. *sniff* I'm choking up over here.
