Why? Why do I read freaky stuff at night? Why do I do this to myself? Why?

Okay, this one I just don't believe, but the painting itself is just creepy as all hell anyway. But still, you know? "Oh my God! And then the little boy just PHOTOSHOPPED HIMSELF OUT OF THE PAINTING!"

"It started when I was three years old. One night I awoke to find a small child-like figure in my bed with me. He was about 2 feet tall and had the features of a small child, but its head was swollen well beyond a normal size. It was wearing a blue gown with the hands not visible at the end of the sleeves. It was moving its mouth and talking in gibberish. The figure was as real as I was, and it was surrounded by a kind of glowing haze. I ran to my parents' bedroom and woke up my dad, but, of course, he told me to go back to sleep." OH MY GOD.

"One night they both awoke to find the Raggy Ann dolls sitting up in bed laughing at them." I am never sleeping again.

"And then the dreams started. Over and over I kept seeing the barn. I remember it so clear. And I saw a face looking inside. A dark evil face. And I heard all different voices calling out my first name. Over and over I heard my name, Jenny. Jenny. Even a Jennifer. And as much as I'd try to get away I couldn't, I just kept getting closer and closer to the barn as if I was floating. I kept seeing blood and hearing animal cries. I finally woke up to find my friends screaming as well. We were all terrified. And we all had the same dreams. We could not sleep. It was as if the barn was calling to us, even while we were awake. We all felt a need to go back. Something was luring us to it. " But... but... I need to sleep! I have to sleep sometime!

"With messages like 'We Know, Go' it really adds to the feeling like you're being watched. " Also notable: the teddy bear hanged by the neck until dead. I wonder what his crime was.

You know, I don't even know how I ended up here. This one isn't even a haunting--it's just true crime. Just ordinary stranglings. Committed by a ten-year-old girl.

For real, I slept with my Galadriel doll a lamp on all night last night after reading this shit. That, and I have a barely-suppressed terror of seeing something behind me in the mirror in broad daylight anyway (I think I got this from The Ring. And of course my bathroom has giant mirrors in it), so now I'm expecting to wake up with stuffed animals strung up from the ceiling and GO AWAY painted on the walls and dead blue ghost babies sleeping in the bed next to me. And I have class tomorrow, y'all! I need my sleep!

By the way, seriously? So much of this shit seems to happen in New Jersey. I think the whole midnightsociety.com site is nothing but New Jersey hauntings. Remind me never, ever to go there.

(You know, so says the girl who used to read "Thirteen Alabama Ghosts" and lived down the street from the Aqua Velva Ghost. Yeah, we have no room to talk down here.)

I read about the ten year old girl recently! Someone had a quiz that was "which murderer are you" or something and I'd never heard of this girl, so I googled. I read the whole story and was like !!!

And Thirteen Alabama Ghosts. Squee. I love finding people from Alabama online. And from the Birmingham area, no less.

Dolls are EVIL! I haven't trusted a single one since I watched some creepy Night Gallery (I think) where this bride and groom doll came to life and killed people.

Or that damned Talking Tina doll from .. something else.

From: [identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com
I probably should have said more than that, but really, that's all there was to it--this house down the street from me kept being sold and resold because a strong scent of Aqua Velva aftershave would suddenly appear for no reason at random times. No one had any idea where it came from, but it seemed to follow people around the house.

Oh, thanks, Cleo. -_^ Now I'll never sleep, but you know I couldn't resist reading that stuff... I'm genuinely afraid of ghosts, but I have a morbid fascination with all of those haunting stories, and true crime stories also fascinate me.

Since I'm prone to nightmares anyway, I'm sure I'll have a few tonight. ;) (Which reminds me... there's another -great- haunted eBay item story. I'll have to dig that one out for you. *g*)

On another note, I remember seeing something about that painting on TV a few years ago. It's a lot scarier when they add animations to it and have a guy narrating in a spooky voice.

Dude. I didn't even read the explanation about that first painting, but the painting itself was scary as shit.

The child serial killers are scary. My fiance was doing his ER rotation at UAB last month and a 3 year old girl was brought in for a psych consultation. One night before bed she had looked at her parents and said "I'm going to kill you. And you." And another time they found her banging the cat against the wall, saying "Die, kitty, die."

What the hell do you do with a 3 year old girl who will obviously grow up to become a serial killer? I mean, I don't know if they can get rid of that, or if they just lock her up for life. I vote for the locking up for life.

That was my tangent. You can thank me later.

Date: 2004-09-01 09:03 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com
Damn, she was three? I mean, at least the girl I was talking about was ten and severely fucked up. If you read the Mary Bell stuff, it turns out that her mother was a prostitute who very likely went all Munchausen by proxy on her and may have even sold her to clients at an extremely young age. I mean, you could see why the kid was messed up. (Personally, I thought Crime Library shouldn't have been so squeamish about the sexual abuse element--they just barely spelled it out near the end of the article, and the time to mention the crazy mother was way, way before that. But they'll go through the gore at length, you know?)

Well, I wouldn't say my house was haunted but... There's a definite feeling of a presence. It is, however, a very friendly and useful presence. There have been quite a few occasions when I've been hunting for something - a comb, scissors, book, that kind of thing. I get fed up, sit down, shut my eyes and snap, "Where is it?" And when I open my eyes, it's on my lap.

It's also quite nice to have the comforting presence - currently called Ned - around when reading spooky stories late at night. *g*

Lucky you've got a nice presence--our first house, there was a ghost-thing that liked to try and crawl into bed with my little brother. He'd wake up and, in a room with only one window which he always kept closed due to allergies, the sheets on his bed would be flailing around and the bed would be dipped as if there were a weight on the other side of it. The only reason I believe him is that I saw it myself. *shudder*
