Wahhhh! Oulangi has gotten me hooked on Kingdom of Loathing but I've run out of adventure turns and I'm full so I can't eat anything to get more!

(I am now a level 4 Disco Bandit--a "Jiggy Grifter." Also, I have a two-pound mosquito familar with six kills to its name. Whee!)

(Wait, what's this about a game-wide reset in the future that will leave everyone back at square one with nothing but a name? No! I have a lot of meat! Argh!)

Working on Titanic today. Sort of at a plodding stage--nothing very good or interesting is coming out, but I'm treading water until something comes to me, just sort of picking at what I've got, which is scattershot indeed.

Household in a general uproar over my sister's decision to drop out of Culinard (maybe). She's already dropped this quarter, and it's all too easy to just not sign up for the next one. On one hand, all the fussing and arguing over this stresses me out--it's like secondhand smoke. On the other... wow, do I so not feel anxious about going to my one little Milton class next week in comparison.

Had a talk with Mom last night--it was mostly about the Sister Girl issue, but it turned into a discussion of how all that is also stressing me out, and how it would really, really help if she stopped trying to micromanage me. (And it would really, really help if I made enough money to finally move the hell out of here. But I digress.) I think it was a good talk; we'll see if things change, but she seems willing to back off at the moment.

Eep. I was hoping for a more promising metaphor here.

Congratulations on talking to your mother. I sympathise with you on all those points, and I hope she backs off for a while, not just temporarily. :)

I haven't been on Kingdom of Loathing in a long time... fired it up today to check on my Level 10
Sub-Sub-Apprentice Accordion Thief and I have a lot of meat too! I hope they don't reset it on us...

Yeah, I'm gonna be pissed if Jick resets it and I lose all my meat. Still, I guess I'll at least know what I'm doing the next time around.

Eeeeh? Kingdom of Loathing? I went to the site and it scared me. Accordian thief? Meat? Then again, I scare easily by online games. Why, once upon a time I was badly shaken by the ghosts in Pac-man. *brrr*

I'm a hopeless KoL addict. Send RevealedTanline or whomajigi a message and I could hook you up with some meat, or whatever.

As for the reset, yes, everything is reset when beta testing is over. But jick, the guy in charge is going to implement assention which'll let you keep everything on your character if you achieve it.

Aww, thanks. I joined a clan and got plenty of meat, so I'm good there, but it's always good to have people you can trade stuff with for quests and such. I'm Cleolinda (no! really!) on KoL, too.

Yeah, you say that now, but wait until you run out of adventure turns for the day. I keep wandering around hoping the game'll let me eat something and get more turns, like some sort of zombie crack addict.

That KoL is addictive... I'm a Level 2 Disco Bandit and I want more meat! I don't quite get what makes the levels go up, but what the hell. It's better than reading fanfic.

Well, as you adventure around and get more "smarm" or "chutzpah" or "muscleboundness" or whatever, you eventually earn moxie/muscle/mysticality points. And when you get enough points on your main quality--we disco bandits focus on moxie--you level up. Or so I understand. My problem is that I want it to be like Neoquest where you can just play all day and all night if you damn well feel like it. Not that you should, but... yeah, it's probably for the best that they cut us off.

My favorite absurd thing about Titanic is how in some of the later scenes, Jack and Rose endlessly run through the corridors, chased by-- IEEE!-- water! OMG don't let it touch me! I mean... folks, the ship is sinking. You're going to get your shoes wet.

From: [identity profile] calistakaufman.livejournal.com
Ah yes, but the water is chilly. And no one like chilly water. Except penguins. And we all kno that there are WAY too few penguins in Titanic.

I just like the fake sense of security they get right after the boat hits the iceburg. It's like:

Rose: Jack, dude, we just hit something really big!
Jack: Bah, don't worry 'bout that. You don't have to worry until the ship lurches or something like that.
Ship: *lurches*
Jack: Ah hell. Might as well pneumonia myself to death right now, oughtn't I?
Rose: Just about.
Jack and Rose: *run away from water for 20 minutes... see above post*

I have to say that even reading your daily (or whenever you happen to) posts makes me chuckle (and at work, people look at me strange). I'm an avid reader of your m15m and when I showed up again to see if you had made any more, they were all locked (I, naturally, freaked out). Anywho, I've joined and I hope that I'll be able to post.

You are a very (extremely, and other synonyms found in Roget's Pocket Thesaurus or however you spell half the words in this phrase) creative person and I enjoy reading your stuff a -lot-. Maybe too much.

You are working on a book, no? I think I saw something like that a while ago...'eh, I may just be losing my mind. Surprise Surprise.

Ciao.

Z

P.S.-I love your icons and took one of my favs for myself. Thanks for letting those of us with no life prey on your creativity. ^_^;;

After everyone's been talking about it, I finally played some more KoL last night. How many turns do you get per day? I played tons and while it told me how many times I had adventured, it didn't say how many were left.

Date: 2004-08-11 08:13 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com
You get 80 your first day and 40 a day after that, all you get more turns every time you eat or drink something. Look for the little hourglass on the left side of the screen, that'll tell you how much you've got left.

Hey, you got any food? I'm on my first day on KoL, and it's probably a good idea to stock up, no? Message me on KoL at christigilly. I don't remember what I have, but if you need anything from me let me know and I'll send it to you if I have it. I don't have a whole lot of meat at the mo' but I can send you some tomorrow to pay for the food.

Titanic is a wonderful movie, simply because it has a clever story but takes itself way too seriously and that makes me happy. :-) And you are very, very talented and I'm positive that something very good will emerge from all your scattershotting. ;-)

Okay, now I'm addicted to KoL. First I get addicted to m15m, then to the games you suggest. Can we make a support group for cleolinda addicts? We could try to think up a name. Like the Mendelevium Echidnagiraffes, or something.

I am so terrified of starting KoL. Because I would never stop. I would become grafted to my seat like that obese woman in Miami or whatever who was grafted to her couch because she was on it for so long. That would be me if I started Kingdom of Loathing. No lie. Maybe some exaggeration, but no lie.
