Quick question for you guys: I'm watching Titanic, and my understanding is that Ioan Gruffudd is somewhere in this movie (and you know me; I can't pass up a "Fifth Officer Horatio Hornblower" joke). Is he, in fact, the one who's helping load the lifeboats and then freaks out and starts shooting (at) people about an hour from the end?

ETA: You know, if I had waited thirty minutes, I would have noticed that Ioan is totally the guy on The One Boat That Went Back. Silly me. So yes, it's him, both times (you can check the subtitles for his character's name, Lowe).

(Goddamn movie. I snickered through the whole thing, and then Rose got to Titanic Heaven and the damn thing cracked me like a nut. Stupid movie. *sniff*)

Tigannie*con is the anti-WriterCon, for those of us too poor/busy/whatever to actually fly to Vegas for the weekend. So, virtual!con in Virtual!Vegas. Or at least that's how it started out. Truth or Dare, along with all the other activities in the main community page are locked to protect the (no longer) innocent, but you can view the fruits of my casino's labor at [livejournal.com profile] mirage_casino, if you're interested.

No- he's the heroic one at the end who turns his lifeboat around and hears Kate's whistle. It's a bit blink and you'll miss it. I can't really remember if he's in it beforehand - I'm thinking that this is a good thing!

Yeah, I finally got to that part and realized it was him. Actually, they're both him--the captions say "Lowe: Get back, you lot!" So it's him both times. Heh.

Ioan & Titanic Heaven

'K, after reading these comments I had to go home and watch the dang thing again. There is a point during the loading of the lifeboats when our boy yells "Get back you lot" in the background, but he's just herding passengers and doesn't shoot anyone. That's another poor sod, who immediately shoots himself for shame and horror. There are a couple bullets fired into the air before that, but not into any people, I believe.
After reviewing, I'm not sure about the "Titanic Heaven" question. I always thought it was just a dream Rose had, maybe one she'd been having over and over through her long post-1912 life. I always just went, 'Aww, look, all her ship friends", but I noticed this time that only people who actually died in the sinking appear in Titanic Heaven--hence the name, I guess. So maybe she did die after (pointlessly, in my view) returning the diamond to the chilly heart of the North Atlantic.

LOL, no, it doesn't:

Watch at the end, after the ship has totally gone. He's in the lifeboat with the flashlight, and he goes, all sadly, "We waited too long...well, keep checking them!" Hope that helped.

Nope!

Far as I can remember, although it's been ages since I saw it: Ioan is the officer who pulls Rose out of the water.

Chivalrous no matter the movie. Awww. Hope that hepled.

You can actually catch a few glimpses of him throughout the film, but he's more prominent at the very end when he turns the lifeboat back as the others said. I think he's also the one loading the boat that Rose jumps off of to get back to Jack.

Only time I have seen any of that movie was on TV while channel hopping - where you got Kate Winslet's tits on Christmas Day at 7pm.....

That was an *interesting* family Christmas.....

That's almost as bad as the time I was sitting in my den, about seventeen years old, with my dad, my little sister, and my aunt, and Dad's channel-surfing and he hits the big chair sex scene in Single White Female. And it's Christmas eve.

I actually haven't seen Titanic in a while so I can't really answer your question - but I remember it was a good movie and i cried!!
Speaking of Ioan Gruffudd though - I first saw him in "Forsyte Saga" - and hes brilliant in it. Definetly recommend to see it when people have spare time.

I could have sworn the gun pulling was done by Cal played by Billy Zane when he couldn't get a place on one of the boats, however I haven't seen the movie for a number of years and could quite easily be wrong.

From: [identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com
There's a lot of guns, actually. One of the ship officers is all like, "I'll shoot you all like dogs!" That happens at least once on deck, and maybe again when the steerage people are trying to get through the gates below. Then Lowe, a totally different officer, starts shooting (over people's heads, I think). Later, Cal yanks out Lovejoy's gun and starts chasing R&J around the flooded ship. So there's a lot of potential shooting going on.

Ahh ok, like I said I haven't seen it in a good while. That one occaision just stuck in my mind, and Cal with the crying child.

David Warner, who played Lovejoy, plays Ioan's commmanding officer in two of the Hornblower episodes...

He is so damn lovely...Ioan, not David Warner, who will forever be the photographer in The Omen...

I find that I am emotionally opposite. I cry during the whole film, and then die of cheese overload when she gets to "Titanic heaven."

I was so surprised to check the IMDB yesterday and realize that was David Warner. Because not only was he in The Omen, but in one of my most favoritest MST3Ks ever, "The Quest of the Delta Knights." AS TWO DIFFERENT CHARACTERS. *heart*

(That's really nifty trivia, though, about HH. I wonder if I can work that in somewhere...)

Huh? Titanic Heaven?

I am confused. She doesn't *actually* die at the end, does she? I haven't seen in in forever and my eyes tended to be tearing up from laughter re: the ridiculousness of throwing EIGHT KAJILLION DOLLARS INTO THE OCEAN, but... I'm still confused.

Oh yes, she died and went to this big glowing lightbulb version of the Titanic where everyone applauded her and there's good ol' Jack Dawson waiting on that staircase again..

I think I've seen that movie too often.

Well, it's ambiguous. It could be a dream, or she could have died in her sleep. The movie isn't clear, really.

yeah, there're those adorable Irish kiddies and also that older couple, who seem to think if you lie down in your bed and wait for it drowning won't still be freezing and horrible. I mean, didn't the Irish mom realize the kids would wake up when the water came in? Still makes me sniffle though.
