That is exactly, exactly, EXACTLY what my writing process looks like right now. The beauty of writing a longer piece, though, is that I get to be lazy and I can just hammer out scene after scene and, eventually, the murderbot makes a joke and everyone in the room just stares at him and I find that hysterical. And the rest of it doesn't HAVE to be funny. The funny turns to molasses in my veins when I try to work for it.
Then again, maybe I should just seek out daiquiri in a bag? (Seems to work for you.)
I guess what I'm trying to say is, comedic writing is ridiculously hard, particularly when you're going for 100% comedy and not periodic moments of levity between murderbot and a screwy family. I, personally, find sitting there in terror, gazing into the empty screen, praying it doesn't turn out like a Sandler movie to be particularly effective.
