Well, here's what I've decided to do:

1. Make a mailing list, because I have gotten emails from people who do not have LJs and, furthermore, don't want them. I'll probably put a link to this on Short Attention Span Theater.

2. Make a community where only I can post. I bring you: [livejournal.com profile] m15m. I'll probably copy the existing movies over there, because right now it's just tumbleweed bouncing by occasionally.

I'm surprised by how many people like the non-Fifteen Minutes entries on my journal. And yes, I have been told I have a boring journal, and that I natter too much about writing and school. There was a review community that turned my journal down, for example. Which is fine. I'm just saying, I will totally not be surprised or offended if people unfriend this journal and go join the community only, because life is too short to read about some random girl's thesis woes if you're not interested.

Speaking of which: No, I don't read my entire friends list. In fact, I haven't read anyone on my friends list in about two weeks, which makes me sad, because I really like keeping up with my core group. The not-keeping-up has mostly been because I've been swamped with site updates and comment-reading and writing and what have you. Ideally, I would keep up with the people I knew well, and keep up with the comments in my own journal and reply to more of those, and if someone said something particularly interesting I'd go check out their journal. And I have browsed my f-list at large a few times--it's a little like reading the Friends of Friends function. So... no, I haven't tried to read everyone, but I'd like to try to read more, at the very least.

All in all, the community thing is a good thing, because I was getting really nervous about people reading the Fifteen Minutes who I didn't really want wandering into the rest of my journal (professors, family members, etc.). So, thanks to your suggestions, now I have a separate place for that, which is basically like a journal but with a larger friending capacity, and all is well. I knew y'all would be good for something. :)

Will you still be posting them here, too, or do we need to add the new journal to see them?

From: [identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com
I think I will post them only at the community, so that way my professors, for example, could go visit it without getting all up in my personal Kool-Aid. However, I will definitely say, "Hey guys, I just posted a new Fifteen Minutes!" over here, and you can just follow the link if you want.

Yay!

I came for the 15m, I'm staying for the Cleo. If that's okay.

And your journal's neither nattery (?) nor boring. It's a journal, 'tis supposed to be self-reflective. There was a review community that turned my journal down, for example. Meh, their loss.

This does give you a way to distinguish the two, though, and is definitely the best of both worlds. And if it makes your life easier, so much the better. You've got enough thesis-related agony to worry about, no?

Am staying for Cleo, like someone up there *points* said, so you'll be seeing much more of me. *snickers*

At risk of sounding greedy, are we still going to get DOOL recaps too? Those are often better and more entertaining than the show itself.

Although Electrocuted Doug is one of the funniest things I've seen in a while.

well I joined the community but I'm going to stick around here too. As a fellow grad student working on her thesis and going mad it's nice to read someone else's perspective on it.

As it can be pretty damn lonely, I work at home lately.

And I had a meeting with my professor yesterday too and was quite nervous about it.

Like others, I came for the M15M, but I'd like to stay for the Cleo, if you don't mind. Because I find your nattering interesting, y'know?

Besides, if I listen to your thesis woes, I can't cry "I didn't know!" when it's my turn ;D

Will! I've just had a bad week scheduling-wise--went to a movie on Friday, holiday on Monday, professor meeting yesterday. A new one ought to go up today.

Aww, I totally understand. I'm pretty much at home for the summer myself, working on 1) the thesis proposal, 2) Black Ribbon, 3) and a book proposal. How'd your professor meeting go?

it went rather well! I've avoided going to see him for the past two months (whoops) but he was friendly and helpful as always and demanded to see me again in three weeks and that I am to present 20-30 pages to him then. So I know what I'm doing the next couple of weeks, put it that way... I'm working on the introduction and method atm and it's driving me a little insane.

But considering what I write about (mosh pit culture) it's still fun and completely worth it. Luckily.

And if you need help with the thesis, well, I'm not a creative writer (in fact, I'm EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE), but, you know, I can spell. And stuff. And offer moral support. And stuff. And other stuff.

Obligatory "OMG I knew you when you were indie" comment!

Well, thank you. I've tried to be as--I SAID WHITE LILIES IN THE TOILET, *WHITE* LILIES!

I really want a "I knew Cleo when Cleo was indie" icon now. Possibly one that also sneers that I've sold out. Hee.

The indie icon sounds a good idea.

I friended the comm before reading the faq and realising you'd post a link over here, too, so am considering unfriending the community.

Definitely don't want to defriend you personally despite you becoming a fandom supastah! (tm [livejournal.com profile] snowking), even though you'll forget those who were there... before... you sold out!

*pause*

Can I have your autograph? Huh? Please! *passes over some white lilies*

And yes, I have been told I have a boring journal, and that I natter too much about writing and school.

Dude, no! I actually don't mind it, it shows you're much more than just really damned funny :)

The people who have friended you for Mi15m and are complaining about other stuff are whiny bitches. :) Oh, and since you're not going to be posting the actual Mi15m here anymore, will you at least let us know here when you do a new one so we can pop over and check?

Date: 2004-06-02 09:26 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com
Oh, of course--I fully intend to announce stuff on this journal. And no one's complained about my journal since M15M--all the complaining was before. Which is weird, because I still wrote about the same stuff otherwise. :)

Filtering Friends

I haven't read anyone on my friends list in about two weeks, which makes me sad, because I really like keeping up with my core group.

I was having problems keeping up with my f-list, too, until I discovered the custom friends groups filtering system (http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=102). I now have separate friends pages for my core group of friends, communities, feeds, etc. It makes focusing on what I want to read a lot easier.

Oh, and I echo what [livejournal.com profile] snowking said (http://www.livejournal.com/users/cleolinda/113399.html?thread=1095671#t1095671). :)

Yeah, I'm like you--I skim my friends list, but I have too many friends to read each entry in depth. I just skim for content and read further if something catches my eye.

That said, do give my latest entry a look if you have a chance. It'll hopefully be of interest to you.

In turn, I find entries on writing rather interesting...but then again, I write quite a bit myself, so I'm always curious about others who share that passion.

This is what I was going to suggest, but decided to check to see if anyone else posted it first.

The coolest part of Custom Friends Groups is making a "Default View", this will make it so you can put your core friends in "Default View" for really easy access (just press the friends link), and then have to type in a little bit more to see all these other random people that you have added (like me ;-) ).

Oh, good plan *patpats* oh well, probably everyone's journal is as boring as the next (mine is probably as boring as yours is supposed to be ;) it's just that some people write up their day in a way that's flashy and resultingly other people think they are "very interesting". Which they are, but no more than the next person, they're just better at presenting their update with bells and whistles. Anyway, a journal is supposed to be a log of what you've done each day/week/[time period here] so it's not so odd that most people write "today I ... blah blah blah". :)

Anyway, the point of this is that I've joined and friended the m15m community, and I'm keeping you on my list as well.

Good idea with the community. I think I'll stick around for both the journal and the comm... you're doing a writing major, are you? That's really interesting, because I've wanted to be an author since forever too, so it's not like we have NOTHING in common.

And, uh, just ignore that if I got your major wrong.

I haven't been able to post anything (exercises, helpfulness, etc.) in a while, but I did start a writing community, [livejournal.com profile] writer_girls, if you're interested.
