Compocalypse '09: All Good Things

... well, you know who they come to.

You know who they haven't come to yet? This guy (as my sister would say). We called Best Buy. The laptop was supposed to come in today (and bless those of y'all who actually remembered that it was supposed to come in today). Apparently it's on a truck somewhere (and not a UPS truck, because the Brown SWAT would sort that shit out for me with a quickness) and it won't be in until Wednesday. My mother was indignant. I was completely unsurprised. And we can't go get another one, because we've already paid for this one and our warranty/service whatever is specifically attached to the serial number hoodoo on this particular machine. I just shrugged and went on my non-computer-owning way.

I am completely over a lot of things summer, by the way. Mostly, it rained. And what did it rain? Drama. Besides, I tend to consider May in Alabama as being "summer"--it's not like I have any school to get in or out of, so it doesn't make any difference to me--so I've already had my full three months and then some. Summer is so five minutes ago. I am moving on to The Burnt Orange Season. Halloween, specifically. If stores can put up the Christmas displays at 9 pm, October 31st (and I actually witnessed this once), I can start gearing up for Halloween now. It'll help me get back into a Black Ribbon mood anyway.

(As a sidenote, I can't wait for the day that freakin' book is finally on a freakin' shelf and y'all can go, "My God, she went on about this thing on Livejournal for SIX YEARS." Actually, if I woke up and found out that elves had finished writing it for me in the night, the future publishing process would make it more like seven years. Oh, number seven, you so auspicious. And crazy.)

Summer is so five minutes ago. I could not agree more.

I'm really looking forward to reading The Black Ribbon, whenever that day may be.

Trek back into Hobby Lobby. The ones here are already putting up Christmas stuff.

I think Michael's is as well but I'm not sure. As I type this I just realized that Hobby Lobby doesn't have any Halloween stuff and Michael's does.

I use to work in retail and the holiday season really does start on Halloween. We always had our holiday floorsets on the first Sunday in November. *shudders*

The winter coats are already out at Carson's, in case you were wondering.

You're in Alabama? I can't wait til the book is done and you have your own table at DragonCon. :) (I'm just over the border in Georgia).

So sorry about the compocalypse. If the Brown Swat gets on shit on Twitter that fast, why not see if Bestbuy does the same? And moving on to fall is such a brilliant plan.

Am 35 weeks pregnant and so very much looking forward to getting out of this heat! Of course with the cooling trend will come squalling infant time, but alas cant win everything. *shrug* But, since I know I wont have the time or opportunity to work on Halloween costumes later, I've already begun to sew up my older monkey's costume and hope like hell that the monkey doesn't change it's mind about what it wants to be!

[identity profile] mythicvictory.livejournal.com 2009-08-18 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
Now, this could just be the Texas talking, here, but I feel moved to point out that at this juncture, Best Buy is obligated, by law, to endure any physical abuse you care to heap upon them at this point. You are also well within your rights to throw things ranging from pudding to stiff, scratchy pillows at them, and they cannot resist or retaliate, according to customer service statutes in all states except Alaska, 'cause their afraid of Sarah Palin. So, don't hold back next time, Get her Ray!!!!!!!!!!

Just thought you should know your legal options.
Hang tough, babygirl!!

This.

Oh, my place of retail has had Christmas out since July. And we actually got scolded for not having had it out in June instead. Halloween/fall stuff is already out and will be gone before Halloween actually gets here to make room for more Christmas stuff. It's ridiculous.

[identity profile] acaciakitty.livejournal.com 2009-08-18 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
Yes! Pumpkin, apple, and cinnamon just BELONG to certain seasons for me. Fall and Winter. Sadly, they are three of my favorite things, but I feel weird eating them during the Spring and Summer. What a strange hang up.

[identity profile] acaciakitty.livejournal.com 2009-08-18 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
Me too! I always hate Summer anyway. I thrive in the Fall and Winter. Something about falling, swirling leaves and strong, cold wind makes the world feel awesome to me.

[identity profile] greyduck.livejournal.com 2009-08-18 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
Oh good, it's not just me, then...

[identity profile] greyduck.livejournal.com 2009-08-18 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
...the Brown SWAT would sort that shit out for me with a quickness

One of these days when life's a titch less stressful, remind me to hit you up for some slang etymology. The "with a quickness" turn of phrase really caught my mind's ear, if that makes any sense.

(Word geek? Me? Guilty as charged.)

I have some kind of weird Seasonal Dysphasia Disorder where I feel all autumny around mid-August and sort of springy around February and very summery at random non-summer times all around the calendar--weirdly enough, I get massive Beach Yearning in early September when the season's over and I haven't gone anyway because I can't afford to.

Wintery feelings surface occasionally, but more connected to things that happen/have happened at that time of year that have personal meaning for me, more so than the season. I hate winter otherwise.

I was just going to say, my grandma works in a Hobby Lobby in Illinois, and she e-mailed me last week to say, "We've already got Christmas trees out; can you believe it?!"

So, Halloween on, Miss Cleo!

[identity profile] effronteaumonde.livejournal.com 2009-08-18 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
The reason Michael's and other craft stores put out holiday stuff so FREAKING EARLY is because they are assuming if you're making say, Halloween decorations by hand you're going to need a bit of time, and thank god for that because I was able to purchase fall things for my October wedding starting in like July (fall themed, sort of.) It made it a lot easier on my mother and me during all the pre work that made my wedding awesome. (Plus we would get weekly coupons so we could buy like one thing for 20% off and then go back the next week and get a second until we had enough of what we needed...)

[identity profile] sushixpack.livejournal.com 2009-08-18 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, fall. How I've missed you. I have new jeans I want to start wearing and Halloween costumes I want to start picking out. Just two more weeks of summer (vacation) for me, but sadly the weather wont start getting cooler until October or so ;___;

Your day of computer-owning happiness will come, Cleo, we know so.

[identity profile] sirinde.livejournal.com 2009-08-18 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
Oh ye gods I agree with all the above. Let it be fall soon!

Who decided it would be a good idea to move to North Carolina from Michigan?

Oh right. More fool I!

The sun, it burnsses us precious!

[identity profile] sushixpack.livejournal.com 2009-08-18 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
I've formed a great love of and intrest in stingrays after making a manta ray friend in Sea World, so I must say your icon is lovely.

[identity profile] aka-paloma.livejournal.com 2009-08-18 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
Man, I must be in a really negative place right now because your "all good things" subject line in conjunction with "well, you know who they come to" confused the heck out of me. See, first thing that came to mind upon reading "all good things" was "come to an end".

...Yeah I really need to get some gainful employment happening soon because any positivity I might've had seems to have defenestrated itself.

[identity profile] lisa-zj.livejournal.com 2009-08-18 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
I'm so sorry Cleo. **hugs** I sort of figured something like this had happened. I've peeked at you LJ page several times today but didn't want to say anything. In your place, having everybody asking would have been like pouring salt in the wound. I only hope what goes around, comes around works the other way too. You should have nothing but smooth computer sailing with your new girl (boy?) when she finally gets here.

[identity profile] outinthestorm.livejournal.com 2009-08-18 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
You know who they haven't come to yet? This guy.

You know, I read that and automatically pictured the double-thumb-jab motion.

Just so you know. ;D

[identity profile] galwaygirl08.livejournal.com 2009-08-18 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
I kid you not, I saw Halloween decorations in a store today. You go on and feel Halloweeny.

I was going to say that I can't believe the laptop didn't make it - but I can. Its unbelievable the amount of crap you've had to go through to get a new computer, and this is par for the course. Here's hoping all goes smoothly when it finally arrives!

Maybe cute James McAvoy lookalive salesman will deliver it in person. That'd be a happy ending to this whole sorry story.

Totally off-topic, but have you seen this? Four pretty ponies of the apocalypse (http://store.cottonfactory.com/cf-323.html)

Back here in (Upper) Michigan, we're finishing our fifth day of summer. And it's supposed to cool off this week, so the wedding my cousin purposed set for the end of august cause it'd be warm, will probably be 55-60 degrees and raining.

But while I can't really comprehend what the endless heat of the South would be like, I can say when we hit 88 for ONE DAY, I could hardly handle it. I could never move there, unless I never had to leave an air conditioned house.
