So. After two months of high anxiety (and that last month a solid four weeks of full-throttle cleaning. Y'all, I didn't even know what a baseboard was), my stepfather's thirty-person family reunion dinner is a fait accompli. I mean, I guess--I can't really even verify that it happened, because Brett the Vet evacuated me about fifteen minutes before anyone got there, and by the time I got home four and a half hours later, there wasn't a soul in the house but my parents and the pets. And my mother cleans as she goes--that's just how she rolls--so the house was spotless. The only reason I'm even partly sure it happened at all is that our fridge was significantly less full.

(My mother went into a grand mal fit du shit right before I left, so... good call on my part. I think it had something to do with the fact that she hadn't eaten all day and the air conditioning was being pissy and it was 78 actual degrees downstairs. Yeah.)

So we went to the Iguana (excellent churros) and I had a large Texas margarita even though I probably shouldn't have due to the medication adjusting but dear GOD, did I need a drink, and then we went back to his place and watched the Coraline DVD. Also, there was wine. So I was feeling pret-ty goooood by the time I got home. I'm going to try to get brave enough to set up Camille today--I had gotten to a point where it was like, there is too much stress and anxiety and bad juju in this house with the reunion preparation, and if something goes wrong, no one is going to give the least shit about helping me with it, so... I will wait until we are over and done with this. And now we are. Wish me luck.

I envy your willpower. That computer would have been out of its packaging in a second x.x

Good luck! As nervous as I have ever been about doing computer stuff myself, I find that if I just take my time and follow the instructions, everything turns out okay. Then you get the feeling of satisfaction that you *did this thing* by yourself. (I was so nervous when I opened my comp up for the first time to upgrade the video card. I needed a drink after THAT.)

Also, as trying as OMGWTFHOUSECLEANING is... It is always nice to enjoy how pristine everything is after the event is over.

It has always struck me as massively unfair that the moment I am least supposed to have a drink- during a med adjustment- is also the moment I most desperately want one.

Sounds like the reunion went as well as it possibly could for you, which is awesome. Yay for avoidance and booze!

Computers aren't that hard to set up - everything is nicely color coded now, and the plugs are all designed to only go in the correct opening. You are going to do great, and you will be SO HAPPY to have a shiny new, super fast computer. It's one of the great pleasures of the technological age.

It's actually not the computer itself I'm worried about--more trying to hook up all my existing--peripherals, you'd call them? The wireless keyboard, the internet, the printer (which is broken and/or hates me anyway), all that.

*Sends as much good juju in your direction as he can*

Just in case. ;-)

Eh, it should still be a matter of just plugging them in and letting the computer find them. The keyboard is probably USB, the internet should have an internet shaped jack, the printer...well, printers can be bitchy, but are not entirely vital to getting online.

Of course, this is in a normal house, not a House of Electrical Evils, so I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Sending good vibes for Camille.

Y'all, I didn't even know what a baseboard was

HAHAHA That reminds me of when we were cleaning up our house to sell it. Mom handed me a brush and said "Scrub the baseboards!" and I said, "The what?"

Haha, I didn't know what the word for the baseboard is. Delightful part of living in a bilingual household is that after eighteen years of life, I'm still learning the English term for really simple words. Like, the other day, I finally pieced together the Chinese and English words for "turnip." So that's what I've been eating all this time!

PLEASE TELL ME THERE WAS NO CURNBREAD AT THE REUNION.

Anyway. Lots of luck with your computer setup! :D

(Also, can I ask a potentially dangerous (for my wallet) question? How good are the extras for Coraline? XD)

I waited a while before setting up my new computer too. It wasn't so much that I was worried about something going wrong, it was more that I was convinced that there was some temporary bad juju going on at my house, and I didn't want to bring a helpless baby computer into that environment. I was projecting so many human characteristics onto the thing that it's lucky I didn't decide to plunk it into a birthing tank when I opened the box.

Might've been less stress-y to set up Camille directly after the wine and margarita. That's how I'd go about it, anyway. Which probably explains a lot about why I plugged things into the wrong sockets etcetera.

Good luck on the set up Cleo! But I know you'll do fine. :)

And good call on being busy for the family reunion. AND on the margarita!

We actually didn't watch that disc, but there is an extras disc, a director's commentary, and a two-sided disc with 3D on one side and the regular movie on the other (also comes with four pairs of cheap 3D glasses).

Good luck with Camille. Maybe you should get her corresponding flowers of good luck? As long as Bella wouldn't knock them over, pouring the water into the new machine.

Also, drinking and being away from family reunions (especially when not directly related to you) is certainly the way to go. Brett the Vet did good.

Handy tip: Bad juju can be usually be removed with opening the windows and playing music.
On anything else you can use a combination of lemon juice, vinegar and baking soda but it looks like your mum has that under wraps, so that's alright. Good luck with Camille!

Camille!

Move Bella's kitchen far away from your computer station!

I think I now have your bad luck:

I got ambitious today the Palm Pilot The Husband bought me with our Bush-Stimulus check money a year and a half ago.

He said it was required....after an incident involving: my purse [aka the black hole of Calcutta], lots of notes {okay, the beginning of a novel I've since dumped} on LOTS of sticky notes, my keys, a stick pin, and his hand).

I decided to actually put some applications on it after being scolded by a friend of ours ("You're wasting it! It can do so much!") - and right when I'm ready to roll with it - getting all excited - I lose the damned stylus!

Am now unplugging every electrical thing we own, just in case the bad juju spreads....

On writing prof who didn't want to hear "my printer ate my homework" anymore put it this way at the beginning of term: "You printer hates you, it has always hated you, and it is just waiting for the right moment to strike."

There's not too much out there that can't be fixed by a pretty awesome margarita.
