ALERT ALERT ALERT

OH SHIT YOU GUYS IT'S A JACOB DOLL

Before you ask, HALE TO THE NO

(omg I have SO MANY New Moon/Eclipse Jacob issues, I can't even tell you)

ETA: More pictures. Are these real? Really? I'm calling shenanigans. The Edward and the Bella are obviously repainted, and the Jacob doesn't look like a factory paint job. Actually, you know what they look like? The style of Noel Cruz, who did, in fact, say he was going to be selling a repainted B&E soon. Someone (not the original repainter) is confused or misrepresenting what this is, I suspect. It might also explain why the doll's skin is way too light.

ETA: Aha! Solved.

Why is Jacob a) Kind of fugly and b) played by an actor who is not really Indian so they plopped a wig on his head and called it a day?

Apparently he discovered after he was cast that he oh so fortunately had a Native American ancestor?

Although, to be fair, he could be a full-blooded Quileute and still need a wig.

Yeah, about that - is Jacob's long flowing hair like an essential part of his character? I didn't read New Moon so I have to ask.

It's just that he'd be ten times more attractive if he had the hair that the actor normally sports.

I'm not trying to be snarky, actually. It was something that I was wondering throughout the movie and this doll reminded me of it.

Yeah, it is--he says later that he kept his hair long because he thought Bella liked it that way. Eventually he cuts it off.

Damn, you beat me to it by a second...

[identity profile] mudpuppy83.livejournal.com 2009-04-09 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
It is in Eclipse. It turns out that he keeps it long--which makes him a really shaggy wolf--because he thinks Bella likes it.

Hehe, thanks! It's great, isn't it?

Oh, well I didn't read Eclipse either. I read half of Twilight and quit reading after Bella googled "vampires."

[identity profile] mudpuppy83.livejournal.com 2009-04-09 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
God, I loved that bit. Jacob specifically tells Bella that Edward is a vampire (and that Jacob is a werewolf), but she still has to Google vampires to figure out that Edward is a vampire.

If that wasn't hilarious enough, at one point Stephenie Meyer completely derails the plot of Breaking Dawn so she can pretty much copy and paste the vampire Googling section in--as if any reader cares at that point.

[identity profile] redcoast.livejournal.com 2009-04-09 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
It kind of broke my brain. I guess because I've actually googled "vampire" before (research for a story - I needed to know how vampires were portrayed pre-Dracula). And basically googling "vampire" would be extremely unhelpful in Bella's case because all vampire lore contradicts itself six ways from Tuesday and in no way shape or form resembles a Twilight sparklepire.

That's actually the conclusion that she more or less comes to.

Although I always find it interesting that vampire books traditionally don't acknowledge the contradictory nature of vampire legends. It's interesting, and would explain all their cherry-picking. Instead, they either spout some stereotypical movie stuff and are corrected by a vampire/vampire expert or, if they do research, magically find the one book that explains vampires exactly as they appear in the fictional universe that the character inhabits.

My cousin is Native American and looks more like a Swed then I do (AND I'M THE SWED IN THE FAMILY!) Blonde hair, blue eyes, real pale. I look more native american than her and I haven't a drop of it in me.

So... that's why I can't really point fingers at the actor for maybe/maybe not having an ancestor... because he looks more native then my cousin does who I know is a decent amount of native american. lol
