You have to stick with The Dark Tower, though. I thought The Gunslinger was just too weird, but luckily I kept going and then read the other six over a summer.
My first SK experience was with The Eyes Of The Dragon back in 4th grade. It's a fantasy story and not as horrific as some of his other novels. It's probably still my favorite book of his.
The Stand is a definite must if you like doorstopper books. Misery was fantastic, too. Who knew that a book featuring just two characters (for the most part) could be so damn gripping?
And you should check out your local thrift store or used book store. SK's books are everywhere and he has tons of money already. I see no reason why I should pay $8 for one of his books when it's probably being sold at a yard sale for 50 cents.
