Can anyone translate "интересна" for me? Someone with a brand-new account just commented with that one word on a four-year-old Lost recap, and I'm still scared from the [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge hacking.

ETA: If anything weird (like MY JOURNAL BEING DELETED NOOOOO) should happen, go to https://twitter.com/cleolinda.

ETA 2: Okay, "interesting," which is what I also got from an online dictionary. I STILL DON'T LIKE IT.

ETA 3: And to make up for this being a completely useless entry, have today's journal flashback early: A Tale of Two Kates.

I think it's 'interesting', but my Russian is, ah, rather rusty.

apparently it means:
"It is interesting"
hope this helps!

I think so too. I imagine it's one of the Russian spam LJs that have cropped up recently.

Yep, it means "interesting"! I think! My six weeks of Russian class have come in handy!

That's what I got with an online dictionary--I wanted to see what y'all would come up with independently.

I think it means 'interesting' but I'm not sure.

It's probably a bot. There have been a lot of reports of Russian spammers/bot accounts that run around commenting "very interesting" or "interesting" or the like on peoples' journals. I've gotten a few myself, though they were in English, not Russian. There have been a few people compiling lists of suspended bot accounts, and reported spam accounts, etc., which I would have a link to if I was at all competent.

So, annoying spam! Not a hack! Good news!

I get random weird /russion spam comments on VERY VERY OLD posts on my deadjournal, which weirds me out.

Yeah, I got some weird ass russian stuff in a few years back: something random about a university. Nothing ever came from it, so I wouldn't worry too much.

From the basis of the other two comments my guess is you have a similar thing going on to what I do, though I have no idea what it actually is.

I have a public entry from several months ago that I keep getting short, positive, anonymous comments on, all with different IPs... So no idea what it's about, but I keep getting them. It's rather bizarre.

...And by two comments there are now a total of ten comments, so "on the basis of all the comments before mine in which it is translated as 'interesting'"

I've been getting a rash of Russian users friending me lately. Most of them have ended up suspended, so I'm not worrying too much. Still gets on my nerves big time though.

SO they can read english but can't reply in it? weird.

I've found a pretty good run-down of the Russian 'bots here (http://nympholept.livejournal.com/283620.html). Reason to be wary, yes, especially after what befell [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge, but I wouldn't panic. (Though a quick backup to LJArchive (http://fawx.com/software/ljarchive/) might be called for.) I'm still sifting through my comments and trying to separate the legit comments from Cyrillic noise....

Um, but aren't these bots/spammer accounts um fundamentally innocuous, in a uh spammerish kind of way? I mean, they cannot uh delete your journal just by commenting on it, can they? Or uh something?

Yeah, I'm LJArchiving as we speak. I've been doing it a bit more frequently since the copperbadge thing. My only problem is that I heard some rumor that LJ's servers occasionally eat/drop older entries, so I'm afraid to delete previous LJA downloads. So now I've got way too many clogging up my hard drive.

Did you see my panicked post on SF about the icon-swap on my journal? It seems to be unrelated to Russians, and it reverted to normal, but I'm still paranoid that it's more than a Glitch in the Matrix. *worries*

I backed everything up yesterday.

No, no. I was just afraid that the comment was a prelude to some kind of actual hacking.

Yeah, I could see that just being a weird server glitch.

интересна = interesting. Gotta love Russian for the lack of articles and a present tense of "to be."

I went to read some more about the issue and it's been suggested that they could be 'recruiting' information for potential identity theft or something. Like, great. Even though most of my entries are f-only or filtered. Still.

LJ-Archive, hm? I once used LJBook, which seems to be still up. Maybe I'll try both. The 'convert to UTB8' option has always made me nervous.

Ugh...

I always wonder... to what end? Why do these things exist? Merely for they annoyance the cause?

PS, I didn't know you had a Twitter account. I will now commence to following you creepily.
