Yeah, I think of Superman as a much sunnier hero. You know, I wish they'd just accept that maybe Superman isn't part of the zeitgeist right now, rather than try to shoehorn him into it. Maybe it'll be his time again a few years from now. Right now, for whatever reason, Batman and Iron Man are the ones really speaking to the cultural consciousness. And Batman in particular--a movie as dark as TDK doesn't become the second biggest domestic earner of all time, no matter how good it is, unless it really hits some kind of nerve. It may just not be time for Superman right now, because I really think there are different nerves involved.
