I guess "the new JK Rowling" forgot she can't compete WITH THE ONE ALREADY HERE.

I'm trying to express exactly why this makes me so happy when I don't give the slightest bit of a damn about Stephanie Meyer and probably would never have heard of her without you. I just like Rowling as a human being so much, and feel offended at someone trying to pretend to be her without the effort. Rowling may not be the best writer, and she may be just a bit clueless as to how the worldbuilding process and the fan aftermath work, but there's just something about her. There are celebrities you like, and celebrities you'd probably like if you met them as real people, but she's the only celebrity I can think of where I'm genuinely just plain happy for her for being so successful.

You know, I know that JKR isn't the best writer but, as I'm quick to point out to any who would sass-mouth Harry Potter, she tells a great story. And while I have *shameface* read the Twilight books, saying they're telling good story or trying to imply they were well written makes me want to spork myself in the eyes AND turn in my ability to read at the front desk.

Totally want the super-special-edition to put beside my leather bound Red Book (complete LotR, which y'know, pwns my bookshelf).

I have that on a bumpersticker, I got it in Seattle. I haven't put it on my car because I'm not a lesbian or a witch, but I've thought about sending it to someone. I just haven't yet.

This seriously needs to go in wikipedia under "pwned". For all posterity. I read the Twilight books, and they're good fluff [like you said, sometimes you just really want a Twinkie], but trying to compare them to Harry Potter? That just plain offends me.

Beedle the Bard has even taken a spot on Amazon's front page, while Breaking Dawn is nowhere to be seen, and it's coming out tomorrow. I cannot tell you how rediculously happy I would be if someone planned it like this. I hate hate hate the Twilight books and all the rubbish comparisons people make between Stephanie Meyer and JKR. Now, if Beddle the Bard can stay on top for the next couple days, during the release of Breaking Dawn, I will be one happy fan.

That'll put those sparkly famgirls in their place.

YESSSSSSSSSS. THIS MAKES ME SO FUCKING HAPPY. Tales of Beedle the Bard pwning Stephanie Meyer THE FIRST DAY IT'S ANNOUNCED?

WIN. I think this proves that Twilight is not the next Harry Potter, indeed, Harry Potter is the next Harry Potter.

Her book "The Host" is number for on the Hardback list fiction on the New York Times Best Seller list.

The Twilight Saga is number one on the series books, the category the NYTimes created specifically for the Harry Potter books. 1) Twilight saga; 2)the latest Artemis Fowl; 3)Percy Jackson and the Olympians; 4)Books of Ember series; 5)Harry Potter.

I've read all of the Twilight saga available, most of Artemis Fowl, most of Percy Jackson, none of the Books of Ember, and all of the Harry Potter.

The Twilight saga is definitely inferior to the others that I've read.

I highly recommend Artemis Fowl because they're fun and so easy to read. I'd say the same for Percy Jackson, especially if you're a kid! Those books get much love from ages 7 - 13, I'd say.

I LOVE Artemis Fowl! :D I have all the books! I was so surprised and happy to see a new one come out recently!

The Host was actually quite enjoyable; not having read Twilight yet myself, I'm not sure how much of an improvement it is, but from what I've heard of Twilight, it's a VAST one. Hell, one of the "Twilight haters" comms on here even had a post noting surprise that The Host was actually not a bad read, and was instead actually pretty good SF (an assessment I agree with). So... maybe she's getting better? She also seems to have switched her enthusiasm to The Host and its upcoming sequels, from the sounds of it. If so, I can't say as I'm surprised; the worldbuilding for Twilight sounds so silly, whereas the same aspect of The Host was actually... pretty cool, IMO, and an unusual take for the subgenre of SF it falls under. Maybe this switching of enthusiasm also = decreasing enthusiasm for Twilight = why Twilight apparently gets worse as it goes along? It would explain a lot...

I'll check out The Host from the library. Does she have plans for sequels to The Host? Hmmm. That's interesting.

I love Artemis Fowl. I love him even more after meeting the author, Eoin Colfer, at a book presentation and signing. He's charming and totally hilarious. He said there's been some nibbles about making a book or two into a movie, but it's all in the outrageous fantasy stage. He even said it in a way to make it sound like he was just making shit up as he went along. He was so funny, I nearly peed on myself laughing at him. He also had this two levels to every thing he said going on; the kiddie level, and the adult level, so everyone there was laughing hysterically.

According to Wikipedia, she has plans for two sequels, entitled The Soul, and The Seeker, respectively. I think it works well even as a single novel, though; it's just got an open enough ending that it could very easily be sequeled. ;)

And what you said about Colfer makes me love the guy even more. I wish I could go to more events like that. :(

I think the AF books would be incredibly hard to adapt to film, personally. This could be why negotiations have been in limbo since like, the first book came out in America. XD
