Date: 2008-08-01 10:39 pm (UTC)The Twilight Saga is number one on the series books, the category the NYTimes created specifically for the Harry Potter books. 1) Twilight saga; 2)the latest Artemis Fowl; 3)Percy Jackson and the Olympians; 4)Books of Ember series; 5)Harry Potter.
I've read all of the Twilight saga available, most of Artemis Fowl, most of Percy Jackson, none of the Books of Ember, and all of the Harry Potter.
The Twilight saga is definitely inferior to the others that I've read.
I highly recommend Artemis Fowl because they're fun and so easy to read. I'd say the same for Percy Jackson, especially if you're a kid! Those books get much love from ages 7 - 13, I'd say.

Date: 2008-08-03 07:17 am (UTC)The Host was actually quite enjoyable; not having read Twilight yet myself, I'm not sure how much of an improvement it is, but from what I've heard of Twilight, it's a VAST one. Hell, one of the "Twilight haters" comms on here even had a post noting surprise that The Host was actually not a bad read, and was instead actually pretty good SF (an assessment I agree with). So... maybe she's getting better? She also seems to have switched her enthusiasm to The Host and its upcoming sequels, from the sounds of it. If so, I can't say as I'm surprised; the worldbuilding for Twilight sounds so silly, whereas the same aspect of The Host was actually... pretty cool, IMO, and an unusual take for the subgenre of SF it falls under. Maybe this switching of enthusiasm also = decreasing enthusiasm for Twilight = why Twilight apparently gets worse as it goes along? It would explain a lot...

Date: 2008-08-03 05:16 pm (UTC)I love Artemis Fowl. I love him even more after meeting the author, Eoin Colfer, at a book presentation and signing. He's charming and totally hilarious. He said there's been some nibbles about making a book or two into a movie, but it's all in the outrageous fantasy stage. He even said it in a way to make it sound like he was just making shit up as he went along. He was so funny, I nearly peed on myself laughing at him. He also had this two levels to every thing he said going on; the kiddie level, and the adult level, so everyone there was laughing hysterically.

Date: 2008-08-11 06:59 am (UTC)And what you said about Colfer makes me love the guy even more. I wish I could go to more events like that. :(
I think the AF books would be incredibly hard to adapt to film, personally. This could be why negotiations have been in limbo since like, the first book came out in America. XD
