ALERT ALERT ALERT

... because I am having a really bad day don't know that I'll have time for anything much more detailed. Two new trailers in HD: the new Dark Knight and Twilight.

ETA: Okay, I got as far as "You really shouldn't have said that," and suddenly everything wrong with my day was so very, very right. You know, something about this whole Twilight phenomenon really got my back up at first, but once I heard about the vampire baseball? Something crabby inside me just broke. I realized at that moment that I was going to love this movie like cake. Just... maybe not for the reasons the filmmakers intended.

I think the Twilight books are awful - Bella is a useless immature whiny brat and Edward is an controlling immature manipulative freak and nearly everyone else is a cardboard cutout.

That said, I kind of want to see the movie. They've made worse books into better movies before, you know. As long as Bella is less useless and Edward is less controlling, it might actually be fun.

Haha, maybe without the first person narration we can try to block out all the snobby insipid Bella thoughts.

YES exactly, we can ignore how statuesque and godlike she thinks Edward is (and all the other garbage) and have some kind of actual story going on!

I read that as "statuesque and GODZILLA"
:-)

There are these two girls I know who are completely obsessed with this series. They fangirl over it and join every single Twilight Facebook group under the sun and it's all they talk about. It's so very annoying, and makes me not want to ever touch these books... ever.

*giggle*

All things considered, you're not missing out (in my opinion). Even in the limited realm of vampire YA, there are much much better books.

Alice is okay, and so's Rosalie if you ignore the "Don't do it, Bella, you'll never have BABIES!" conversation, and Leah deserved far better than she got.

...Yeah, my roommate made me read all three of them. Apparently they're supposed to appeal to your inner teenage girl, but my inner teenage girl was gritting her teeth and muttering "Why are they all so boring? And straight? Why is everyone straight, huh? Oh, all the boys in school want Bella? I bet eight-to-ten percent of them don't, Edward dear." Also, both she and I were horribly creeped out by the telepathy all over the place. Mindreading is bad, people!

I liked Alice, and I agree, poor Leah, especially the way people were apparently mad she didn't just 'get over it'. And Mike isn't half bad, either.
