Quick, emergency question (for a friend's birthday preparations): simple Jello shot recipe? Like, "replace the cold water with vodka" simple?

We had awesome results with Strawberry Vodka and, I think it was like, wild berry jello? Tart taste goes well with the alcohol!

Oh, man, I wonder if it would be weird to try that with grape vodka and make an entire platter of jello shots ALL FOR ME.

Mmm. Try Malibu rum in those jello shots. Obviously, YMMV depending on what sort of Jello it is. And has your friend seen the limited-edition alcoholic helper Jello flavors? There's a margarita one, and I forget what else. Mint mojito, maybe?

I also suggest that your friend try making some Jello Chocolate Pudding with kahlua substituted for milk, which I personally love even more. :9

  • take gummi bears
  • drop in wide-mouthed container of vodka
  • let soak until they swell with the vodka
  • eat/drink gummi vodka bears.

Lord... Don't just replace the water, that's alcohol poisoning waiting to happen.

Most Jellos go "Add X amount of boiling water, stir. Add Y amount of cool water, chill."

For Jello shots, just do half of Y in water, and half in vodka. If you're really looking for a thrill, use Everclear. Just don't let people down the suckers.

Jesus H. Christ, that sounds SO GOOD. XP I'm a slut for kahlua...

I've always used half-water, half-vodka (or other liquor). We did coconut rum in pineapple jello shots last time--piƱa coladas, YUM! There is so much fun to be had by coming up with different flavor combinations. The pudding/Kalhua recipe someone posted above looks great, too!

Ha- glad to see other's have given you some advice already- I read that you were thinking of just substituting vodka I did a spit take "Oh dear God no!" Only do half, and if you're not heavy drinkers, I would suggest not swapping for everclear, but the pineapple jello and malibu rum sounds awesome. Also pudding + kaluha = LOVE

Half water with half vodka is a good balance. Any more alcohol than that and the jello starts to recrystalize. It's not very pleasant that way.

You are obviously a genius. On par with Einstein. As a college student who dislikes beer, you might even be Jesus to me.

Unless you've got a professional bartender (or equivalent willing to watch the shots at all times), or EVERYONE at the party has a lot of experience on the safe consumption of the things, Everclear jello shots are a terrible idea. The chances that someone doesn't understand what the alcohol content is and winds up in the hospital are way too high.

I've always used the "replace the cold water with vodka" rule, and I don't think it's too much. Possibly I'm just an alcoholic. But that means the shots are only half vodka (the other half being the hot water), so, as long as you're not consuming a ridiculous number, it shouldn't be any worse than regular shots of the booze of your choice.

Also: flavoured vodka makes it extra yummy.

You're right. Without knowing the experience of the people involved, I shouldn't have made the recommendation.

I would think cinnimin (sp) schnaps with a tart apple jello of some sort would be good, or perhaps even apple shnapps with apple jello.

I second this. Half and half has always worked well for me, and my roommate (who is the self-proclaimed Queen of the Jello Shot) recommends lime jello specifically for hiding the boozy taste.

I second (or third or whatever) the idea of substituting vodka for the cold water, it works pretty well. Also, orange jello goes best with vodka, grape not so much. Good luck!

God...my boyfriend and his friends made Everclear Jell-O shots once, and I wasn't expecting it--they could down them no problem; I nearly vomited.

If one wants to class it up a bit:
  • take punch bowl
  • add large quantity of gummi bears
  • add two bottles of two different flavors of Tropicana Twisters juice drinks
  • add a large quantity of vodka
  • stir
  • marvel at how the gummis do float...at first
  • marvel at how late arrivers at the party have no idea there are bears in the punch, as they've sunk as they've swollen with vodka
  • scoop all your punch from the BOTTOM of the bowl
  • enjoy

These guys (http://www.myscienceproject.org/j-shot-3.html) did a report on the best tasting Jello shots, and have quite a few recipes listed. They also did one on how to get the highest alcohol content into your Jello shots, but I dunno if that's a concern right now.

And there's the WikiHow on it (http://www.wikihow.com/Make-Jello-Shots), too.

Icon love, BTW. I can't stop giggling!
