The Lovely Emily calls me last night; we're going to try to see Marie Antoinette on Friday. She's suggested that we all (her, me, and Brett the Vet) take some kind of trip next Septemberish, and last night, she has an idea for the destination. (Keep in mind, also, that the only time I ever left the U.S. was to go to Cuba, I was hoping for a country where I spoke the language--French, English or Spanish--or something at least close to it, and that my friends are better-traveled than I am, so there's an issue of me wanting to go places they've already been.) However, we're both on cell phones, she's in her car, and the connection isn't all that great.

WHAT SHE ACTUALLY SAYS: "We could go to Quebec!"

WHAT I HEAR: "We could go to Tibet!"

CLEO: "... Oh. Well... oh. Yeah, I... I guess."

EMILY: "Come on, it would be fun!"

CLEO: "Isn't it... kind of cold up there?"

EMILY: "Well, I mean, we would go in September, so it wouldn't be that bad."

CLEO: "Aren't there... a lot of mountains...?"

EMILY: "Well, we're not going to climb them or anything."

CLEO: "And... yaks?"

EMILY: "What?"

Democrats take control of the Senate; world welcomes shift in U.S. politics.

Losses on ballot measures jolt religious. "From the country's heartland, voters sent messages that altered America's culture wars and dismayed the religious right — defending abortion rights in South Dakota, endorsing stem cell research in Missouri, and, in a national first, rejecting a same-sex marriage ban in Arizona.
Conservative leaders were jolted by the setbacks and looked for an explanation Wednesday. Janice Shaw Crouse, a conservative analyst with Concerned Women for America, suggested that Republicans — some of them entangled in corruption and sex scandals — had lost some of the selling power of the 'family values' themes they had pushed in recent elections." I think a lot of it has to do with a national sense of disgust towards this particular incarnation of the Republican party--the incarnation that has embraced the divisive, hateful, hypocritical, bombastic Coulter-O'Reilly rhetoric, a party where Coulter can get away with claiming that liberals are traitors. Mind you, I'm not saying that Republican voters are like this, which is precisely the problem--in trying to capitalize on emotions running high after 9/11, the Republican party has turned into a viper's nest of blowhards and bullies. It's ended up where even people with Republican values don't want anything to do with them. Unfortunately, it's taken five years for that to happen.

AP: Startling findings in Pat Tillman probe. Yeah, things are starting to get weird.

Lemony Snicket's novel Adverbs to be a movie. Okay, I could have said "Daniel Handler's," but would you have known immediately who I meant?

FedEx seeks support, child custody. "A day after Britney Spears filed divorce papers, Kevin Federline counter-filed court papers Wednesday seeking sole custody of the couple's two children." Ahahaha... ahahahahahahahaha!

And finally, happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] katesti and [livejournal.com profile] particle_person!

Britney or Fed-Ex? What kind of choice is that? Neither of them are capable of taking care of themselves, much less children. Any chance Brad and Angelina might adopt 'em?

Go enjoy Canada, though. Yaks are essentially Tibetian moose.

heh. One Daily Show (or possibly the Colbert Report) a while back had a guest talking about "Concerned Women for America, unlike those Appathetic Whores for America".

for some reason I thought you would find that funny.

*gigglesnort* Yaks.

*does a happy jig* I'm so glad the new abortion thing was overturned in Oregon. It was a measure to inform parents before their child has an abortion. While I can see the parents wanting to know about that, it would have been a very dangerous law.

*Takes a deep breath, sits back, and hopes the Democrats can really start to fix things around here*

cheers!

I'm reading (listening via my iPod, actually) to Adverbs at the moment, weirdly enough. While I'm really enjoying it, I have NO clue how they would make it into a movie. Should be interesting.

Greg and I keep talking about vacations we could go on, only to remember that we have no money . . . sigh.

How incredibly obvious of FedEx to decide with these two children (whose mother is obviously much more prosperous than the "other mother") are worth fighting for. What a fucking jackass. The pathetic attempt to squeeze more money out of his soon-to-be ex-wife by holding the children's futures hostage (the only possible way to get through the iron-clad prenup) is sick and twisted and, sadly, not surprising.

It's nice to see the Democrats control both Houses of Congress. ;)

The only thing that suprises me about the whole Britney Spears/K-Fed (FedEx, or whoever Mr. Federline calls himself these days) divorce is that it's not done with Judge Judy present to handle the proceedings. :P

K-Fed hasn't a chance in hell to get sole custody of the boys. Britney might show mercy and give him visitation rights (which would make more sense in this case), but full custody? I doubt he has enough revenue from his CD sales (if he has any) to raise his children by himself, let alone have a clue on how to take care of them.

It is now a goal in life to catch this man, Daniel Handler either in a live showing or in person. He has just such a wonderful and dreadful sense of humor. I was upset when they didn't do another live event with him when The End came out.

Kevin Federline wants what? Oh HELLZ no. (I hear most of the copies of his new CD were actually bought with HER money)

...Okay, I'll admit it: I'm mainly posting to show off my icon, which I love :P
