I'd only like to add further that I think he's incidental for what he really was and is really just a flag for the Bush administration to capture, particularly for Dubya as some kind of fucked-up present for his daddy. The same way that when the battle cry was "Overthrow the Taliban!" and Bush made a point of stressing how awful the women had it, you knew he hadn't even heard of what it was like for them the week before, nor would he have cared if he had. I don't mind Saddam getting justice, but it should be justice as such and not an intended PR coup, which is what I feel like it is.
