I sort of went through a friending-the-friends-of-my-friends streak today (nifty little feature, it is), in case you just got friended and you're wondering what's going on. I think we all have Fametracker in common, and FTers generally have good journals--that was my reasoning, at any rate. I say this on my info page, but I basically add journals that I want to read, so no one has to feel pressured to add me back or anything.

For the regulars--is there anyone you'd like to recommend to me (who would like to be friended)?

Meanwhile, back at the Good Ship Wisdom Teeth: Paaaaain. Well, honestly, I've been in a hell of a lot more pain than this; I'm just going all Camille over it because I'm off anyway. Dr. Buck said yesterday and today would be the worst days, so maybe by tomorrow I'll be moving around again. I'm mostly dozing under the influence of Hydrocopacabana and having really, really weird dreams at this point. (When you're too tired to throw Captain Jack in the DVD player, you know you're not doing well.)

Oh, and [livejournal.com profile] rockgeisha, I did see your Hissyfit comment over at JF. So that really did happen? How bizarre.

Looking at your interests you'd probably get on quite well with [livejournal.com profile] derryderrydown (which is the slashjournal of [livejournal.com profile] anejo)

Awww. You know, the weird thing is, I am totally shy in real life. Online, it's just--you tend to know exactly what people are interested in, because that's how you meet them in the first place, and it's easier to strike up a conversation.

I was browsing some friends list, I don't even know whose, and I saw this girl who wanted to know where she could find some good stuff on the Vig. Well, you know, Cleo to the rescue and all that. I just say, "Hi, I know this is weird, but here's how I found you, thought this [link, whatever] might help." I make tons of friends that way. Seriously, when in doubt, bring squee. :)

(But you remember that random girl on one of your entries who was just hellbent on coming to meet you at your place of employment? Okay, even *I* thought that was a little weird.)

Yep. Like I said, it was a looooong time ago and it wasn't people talking about disliking her. It was a lot of spamming the forums with "Wing is a cunt." On her birthday.

Klassy.

I'm curious now as to who that anon was, that s/he so gleefully remembered that from so long ago.

I know! It frightens me a little bit, because it wasn't that big of a deal (it was only the spamming--there was no "mass exodux," for example) and it was five years ago.

See, I totally don't understand why some people hate Wing so much. I mean, yes, I'm terrified of her, but she would also be my role model if I were ever to mod anything. And it's not because I haven't heard "stories" about her. No matter what I hear, the worst I've ever thought is, "Well, I might have worded that a little less harshly."

(I always wonder if the people who hate her were ever, you know, actually disciplined by their parents. Ever.)

It is a long, long story, but I'll see what I can do:

Over at Fandom Wank on JF--basically a community for mocking wanky fan behavior--there's an entry about a LJ community called "orlando_rapers" (I think it has since been deleted). Fametracker folks found out about it and were expressing their disbelief, when the OR people found out about the FT people and went over there and started trolling in the FT thread. (It's the Orlando Bloom thread, if you want to go look at the carnage. I haven't been over there yet. Seriously, I would not post in that thread for a while. Just to be safe.)

That's where we are right here. (http://www.journalfen.net/community/fandom_wank/348616.html?thread=21489096) I say something like, I fear Wing from over here, she runs a tight ship. And then an anon pops up and says, That's because she is an evil, evil cunt. <--former FTer/MBTVer who say the light and escaped the iron fist of evil, although I was not involved in the mass board exodus where everyone posted about how much they hated her on her birthday and made her husband miss hours of her party because he had to stay online and delete all of the naughty messages!

So of course, I was like, "Whaaaat?" And FWers who are also on FT popped up and were like, yeah, I totally have never heard of that/don't remember that, whatever, anonymous. So then rockgeisha popped up and said, "Oh yeah, that was Hissyfit, 1999." Which was what I was referring to in the entry up there. As discussed down here--dude, that's a long time to remember something like that. Axe to grind much?

I was inspired by this and decided to friend some people myself. Eeek. Friending out of blue not usually my thing. My friends page will never recover from all this. *g*

Hope you and your teeth feel better soon enough.

Yay! It's not so hard! You just friend journals you think you'd like to read, and then wait until they post something that lends itself to a comment and you say, "Hey, I just friended you, thought your journal was cool," and say whatever about that entry. I tend to be careful because there are "OMG UNFREIND ME!1!" people, but generally, I've gotten good responses.

And thanks. I took some Tylenol, and took the next painkiller a little early, and wooooo! I feel good! (Duh na na na na na!)

You make witty LJ entries though! I think mine must just seem impossibly immature and this week, extremely angst-ridden. I don't know why the friending thing makes me so nervous, it just does!

(But you remember that random girl on one of your entries who was just hellbent on coming to meet you at your place of employment? Okay, even *I* thought that was a little weird.)

That was a guy, and there's a little backstory to this.
It's a Saturday night - I'm being a dork and staying up late killing time until the grand prix coverage starts (peskey continental time differences) when I get this random im.
It doesn't say who he is or how he found me, he just starts talking!
So I'm all 'back up buddy, who on earth are you?!' and apparently he found me via someone that had recently friended me. Couldn't get over the fact that I was in Glasgow and couldn't stop talking.
I just got increasingly uncomfortable with it all and ended up blocking him.
Cut to three days later and I foolishly mention where I work under a general friends-lock and that's when he starts doing the 'hey, I could come and see you!' thing.
So now you see why I was doubly freaked out - I hadn't known this guy long at all, plus I hadn't exactly warmed to him in the first place.
It all got very awkward and I wondered if I was being mean, but for some random person that I don't know at all to come and speak to me at work? No, so totally not on!
I actually ended up unfriending them... which I did feel bad about, but then I realised that said person had made me feel uncomfortable on two separate occasions with the space of three days and that I really wasn't obliged to put up with that for the sake of niceness.
First time I've ever unfriended someone too.

And I think you were totally within your rights to do so. I don't know why I assumed it was a girl--it may have had something to do with the username/icon, can't remember what it was. It's weird enough with it being a guy, but keep in mind that I was assuming you had some random Single White Female-type being like, "WHY CAN'T I COME VISIT YOU AT WORK??"

Friggin' freakshow.

From: [identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com
Eh, don't worry about commenting. I don't always do it immediately--sometimes I wait until a natural occasion comes up--has anyone seen this movie, does anyone know a good place to find whatever, what did you guys think, etc. And then they get the "Oh, by the way, I friended you because...."

Oh, and now I'm out of painkillers. I feel... not so good.

but keep in mind that I was assuming you had some random Single White Female-type being like, "WHY CAN'T I COME VISIT YOU AT WORK??"

Well, the next day on my friends list I see a post from the person that this guy had found me through, recommending that people talk to this guy. It roughly said the following:
'hot, single Scottish guy looking for ladies to talk to' which prompted many a (cringeworthy) flirty response, in which he tried to woo many a lady by telling them they were sexy.
I just thought boy am I glad I did defriend him.

Heh. He sounds like the Scottish equivalent of the schmuck who follows girls around at the 7-11 going, "Baby, you so fine! Baby, you know how fine you are? You SO FINE! Baby... where you goin', baby?"
